Zurich Comprehensive Warranty: Coverage, Exclusions, and Claims

The Zurich Comprehensive warranty coverage works as an exclusionary vehicle service contract: every factory-installed part on your car is covered unless the contract specifically names it as excluded.1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract That makes it the closest thing to factory bumper-to-bumper protection sold as a dealership aftermarket product, and it means the exclusion list, not the coverage list, is the section that decides your claims.

Why the Exclusion List Is the Document That Matters

Zurich’s lower-tier plans (Powertrain, Standard, and Preferred) name every part they cover. The Comprehensive plan flips that approach. Instead of listing covered parts, it lists excluded ones. If a factory-installed component is not on the exclusion list, it should be eligible for a covered repair.1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract Read the exclusions first, then everything else makes sense.

What the Plan Covers

Because coverage is defined by what isn’t excluded, Zurich describes the plan by system rather than by individual parts. The covered systems include:

  • Engine, including factory-installed turbochargers and superchargers and all internal components.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat
  • Transmission and transfer case, including the power split device on hybrids.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat
  • Drive axle, differential, axle shafts, and CV joints.
  • Steering and suspension components, including the steering rack, power steering, struts, strut mounts, suspension control modules, and electronic level control compressors in air suspension systems.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat
  • Brakes: hydraulic components, ABS units, and brake lines. On EVs, the regenerative brake system and its control module are included.3The ACE Group. Zurich EV VSC Desk Mat
  • Heating and air conditioning, including compressor, clutch, evaporator, and condenser.
  • Cooling system, including water pump and thermostat.
  • Electrical: wiring harnesses, alternator, starter, power window and lock motors, electronic instrument cluster, and fuel pump relay.3The ACE Group. Zurich EV VSC Desk Mat
  • Computer control systems, including engine and transmission control modules and fuel injection control components.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat
  • Convenience and tech systems: radio, navigation screen, Bluetooth audio, collision avoidance systems, and adaptive cruise control modules.3The ACE Group. Zurich EV VSC Desk Mat
  • Emissions system components such as the fuel tank, fuel lines, and purge control valves.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat

Fuel injectors are covered too. The throttle body assembly is excluded, but the contract carves out an exception for the injectors themselves.4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure

Electric and Hybrid Components

Standard 12-volt batteries are excluded on every Zurich plan. The Comprehensive plan is different in one important way: it covers the high-voltage EV or hybrid rechargeable battery pack. The contract excludes all batteries “unless listed under your coverage,” and Comprehensive is the plan that lists the high-voltage pack.5Zurich Protection Plan Details. Beyond the battery itself, the plan covers the electric drive motor, battery management controller, inverter and converter units, onboard charging system, high-voltage cables, and EV-specific cooling components like coolant pumps, sensors, fans, and heaters.3The ACE Group. What Is Excluded

Several items that sound like they should fall under a “comprehensive” plan do not. The contract specifically excludes:

  • Wear items: brake pads, linings and shoes, rotors and drums, wiper blades, drive belts, spark and glow plugs, coolant hoses, manual clutch discs, and standard batteries.4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure
  • The catalytic converter and the exhaust system.1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract
  • Body and cosmetic parts: glass, lenses, light bulbs, wheels, wheel covers, tires, interior trim, moldings, bright metal, sheet metal, flexible body parts, weather strips, upholstery, convertible and vinyl tops, paint, and any rust or physical damage.6Car Talk. Zurich Extended Warranty Review
  • Shock absorbers, even though struts and strut mounts are covered.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat
  • The carburetor and the throttle body assembly (except for the injectors).4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure
  • Repairs for water or air leaks, rattles, squeaks, wind noise, and alignment of body parts, bumpers, or glass.1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract
  • Anything not installed by the manufacturer at the factory.1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract
  • All manufacturer-recommended maintenance services and parts, including engine tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, and filters.4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure

The 100,000-Mile Seals and Gaskets Cutoff

Seals and gaskets are covered under the Comprehensive plan because they are not on the exclusion list.2The ACE Group. Zurich VSC Desk Mat There is one mileage condition on that coverage: it does not apply if the vehicle’s odometer reads more than 100,000 miles on the contract’s date of sale.4Valley Honda. Benefits Included With Every Contract

Three extras come with every Zurich vehicle service contract, Comprehensive included:1Zurich Protection Plan Details. Vehicle Service Contract

  • Transportation reimbursement for rental car costs while the vehicle is in the shop for a covered repair. Brochure materials cite a $30 per day cap.4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure
  • Trip interruption reimbursement if the vehicle breaks down more than 100 miles from home, covering food and lodging for up to three days, typically at $100 per day.4Valley Honda. Zurich Vehicle Service Contract Brochure

How Claims Work

Repairs don’t have to go through a dealership. You can take the vehicle to any ASE-certified shop.6Car Talk. Zurich Extended Warranty Review The shop diagnoses the problem, then calls Zurich’s claims department to verify coverage and get authorization before starting the work.8ConsumerAffairs. Zurich North America Once approved, Zurich issues a claim authorization number, the shop completes the repair, and Zurich pays the shop directly. You pay only the deductible and any non-covered charges.

Two things get claims denied. Having the work done without calling Zurich for prior authorization is the first. Failing to follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule, and being unable to document that service history, is the second.6Car Talk. Zurich Extended Warranty Review Keep receipts.

Pricing, Terms, and How You Buy It

Zurich doesn’t publish standard pricing. Dealers set the price based on the vehicle’s make, model, age, and mileage, plus the term length and deductible you choose.8ConsumerAffairs. Zurich North America Reported Comprehensive plan prices have ranged from about $1,595 for a seven-year, 75,000-mile contract on an Audi Q5 to $6,720 for a five-year, 60,000-mile contract on a BMW M5.6Car Talk. Zurich Extended Warranty Review Deductibles generally start around $100, with $0 deductible options available. Sample contracts show term options from three years and 36,000 miles up to 10 years and 85,000 miles. Vehicle eligibility reportedly extends up to 150,000 miles or 15 model years.9ConsumerAffairs. Auto Warranty for Older Cars

Zurich contracts are generally sold only through authorized dealerships, usually at the time you buy the vehicle. They aren’t widely available for cars you already own, though some dealers may make exceptions.6Car Talk. Zurich Extended Warranty Review You can cancel at any time for a prorated refund, which takes four to six weeks to process; if there’s an active lien on the vehicle, the refund goes to the lienholder.10Zurich North America.
