If you are enrolled in WIC, your eligibility letter and EBT card unlock a second layer of savings outside the grocery aisle. WIC discounts include Amazon Prime at $6.99 a month, Walmart+ at half price, free or reduced admission at more than 1,600 museums, extra coupons for farmers markets, and low-cost home internet from major providers. Each program verifies WIC enrollment a little differently, so it helps to know what to expect before you sign up.
Half-Price Retail Memberships
The biggest dollar savings come from two national retailers that cut their premium memberships roughly in half for WIC participants.
Amazon Prime Access
Prime Access drops Amazon Prime to $6.99 per month, compared with the standard $14.99. You get the full Prime package: free shipping, streaming video, and member deals. Sign up by uploading an image of your WIC eligibility letter showing your name and either an issue date within the last 12 months or a valid expiration date. Amazon turns on Prime benefits right away while it reviews the document, a process that can take up to seven business days. Plan to re-verify every 12 months to keep the discount.1Amazon. Walmart+ Assist
Walmart+ Assist costs $6.47 per month or $49 per year, half the regular price. The membership covers free delivery from your local store, free shipping with no order minimum, and free pharmacy delivery. Enrollment runs through SheerID during signup. Walmart describes the check as quick, with no credit check and no impact on your government benefits, and new members get a 30-day free trial before billing begins.2Walmart. Grocery Loyalty Programs
Some grocery chains offer discounted premium loyalty memberships to WIC households. Kroger and its regional brands, for example, offer a reduced-price Boost membership that doubles fuel points and includes free delivery on orders over $35. These programs change often and depend on which chains operate in your area, so ask at the customer service desk. One caveat: WIC benefits themselves generally cannot be used for online grocery orders through these loyalty programs.
Extra Food Money at Farmers Markets
The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) issues coupons on top of your regular WIC food benefits, redeemable for fresh produce at approved farmers markets and roadside stands.3Food and Nutrition Service. WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program The coupons cover unprocessed fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown locally. Amounts vary by state, usually falling between $30 and $60 per year. Not every state runs FMNP, and states that do often distribute the coupons during summer and fall. Your local WIC clinic can tell you whether the program operates in your area and when the next round of coupons goes out.
Free and Reduced Museum Admission
Museums for All is a national program that gives low-income families free or reduced admission at more than 1,600 museums, science centers, children’s museums, and botanical gardens.4Museums for All. Museums for All The program primarily runs on SNAP EBT, but many participating venues also accept WIC cards as proof of eligibility. Each venue sets its own price and group size. Some charge as little as $1 per person; others cap admission at $3 per person for up to four family members. Bring your EBT or WIC card and a photo ID to the ticket window.
Zoos, aquariums, gardens, and planetariums often run their own WIC-specific discount programs on top of Museums for All, with pricing that ranges from free admission to a small per-person fee. Your local WIC clinic usually keeps a list of participating cultural venues, and many state WIC websites publish updated discount lists too.
Discounted Home Internet
Your WIC card by itself does not qualify you for the federal Lifeline phone and internet subsidy. Lifeline’s qualifying programs are SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, and Veterans Pension Benefits.5Universal Service Administrative Company. Consumer Eligibility If you receive any of those alongside WIC, apply for Lifeline separately.
Even without Lifeline, your income level likely qualifies you for a low-cost plan from a major provider. Comcast’s Internet Essentials is $14.95 per month for speeds up to 75 Mbps, and eligible households can buy a laptop at a discounted price of about $150.6Xfinity. Apply for Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Plus From Xfinity Spectrum Internet Assist runs $25 per month for 50 Mbps service, with a $15 rate available if you participate in the National School Lunch Program or receive SSI.7Spectrum. Low-Income Internet Service – Spectrum Internet Assist Program These programs verify income rather than WIC participation, so be ready to show pay stubs or proof of enrollment in another qualifying program.
Proving You Are on WIC
Every discount program needs some form of proof that you are actively enrolled. The three documents that cover almost all situations:
- Your WIC EBT card, shown with a photo ID, is what museums and cultural venues usually accept at the door.
- Your WIC eligibility letter is what Amazon Prime Access wants uploaded. It has to show your name and a date within the last 12 months.1Amazon. Sign Up for Prime Access
- Online verification through SheerID is how Walmart+ Assist and some other retailers confirm eligibility during signup.2Walmart. Walmart+ Assist Membership
If you need a fresh eligibility letter, call your local WIC clinic. Many states also have a WIC mobile app that displays your benefit status and certification dates, and some programs accept that as digital proof. Whatever you submit, make sure it shows a current certification period. Expired documents get rejected.
WIC Does Not Affect Immigration Status
Using WIC, and using any of the discounts tied to it, will not count against you in a public charge determination. USCIS has explicitly listed WIC among the nutrition programs it does not consider when reviewing visa or green card applications.8USCIS. Public Charge Resources Public charge rules only apply to certain immigration applications and never to citizenship applications.
