Where to Mail W-2 Forms to the IRS: Addresses, Deadlines, and Penalties

Paper W-2 forms don’t go to the IRS. Employers mail them to the Social Security Administration’s Direct Operations Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, which processes wage reports under an agreement with the IRS and shares the data back for tax-return verification.1eCFR. 20 CFR 422.114 – Annual Wage Reporting Process The exact address depends on whether you use the Postal Service or a private carrier, and whether you’re sending original forms or corrections.

Mailing Addresses for Paper W-2 and W-3 Forms

There is one SSA facility for all paper wage reports, but it uses different addresses for different delivery methods.

Through the U.S. Postal Service:

  • Standard mail: Social Security Administration, Direct Operations Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18769-0001
  • Certified mail: Social Security Administration, Direct Operations Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18769-0002

Through a private delivery service such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL, use the street address, since these carriers cannot deliver to a P.O. Box:

Different Address for Corrections

Forms W-2c and W-3c go to a separate address. Through USPS, mail corrections to P.O. Box 3333, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18767-3333. Through a private carrier, use the same street address as originals but change the attention line to “Attn: W-2c Process.”2Social Security Administration.
