Months With Two Deposits and Months With None
Because five payments arrive before the first of the month they cover, some calendar months hold two deposits and others hold zero. Two calendar months in 2026 contain two SSI deposits:
- July: the July payment on July 1 and the August payment on July 31.
- October: the October payment on October 1 and the November payment on October 30.
Three calendar months contain no SSI deposit at all:
- March, because the March payment already arrived on February 27.
- August, because the August payment already arrived on July 31.
- November, because the November payment already arrived on October 30.
The second deposit in a two-payment month is not extra money. The workable approach is to treat an early deposit as if it landed on the first of the month it actually pays for.
Does an Early Deposit Push You Over the Resource Limit?
SSI resource limits in 2026 are $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple.1Social Security Administration. SSI Federal Payment Amounts for 2026 Receiving two deposits in one calendar month raises an obvious worry about that ceiling, but SSA counts resources at the first moment of each month, not mid-month.4Social Security Administration. Code of Federal Regulations 416.1207 – Resources Determinations An early payment received at the end of a month counts as income when it arrives, then converts to a resource on the first of the following month. As long as your account is at or below the limit at the start of the next month, an early deposit on its own should not create an eligibility problem.
If You Also Receive Social Security
SSI still pays on the first (per the schedule above). Your Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability payment arrives separately, on the third of the month, and the same rule applies when the third falls on a weekend or holiday.3Social Security Administration. - January: paid Friday, January 2 (the third is Saturday).
- May: paid Friday, May 1 (the third is Sunday).
- July: paid Thursday, July 2 (July 4 is Saturday, so Friday, July 3 is the observed federal holiday).
- October: paid Friday, October 2 (the third is Saturday).
In every other month, the Social Security portion arrives on the third. Budget for two separate deposit dates each month rather than a single combined payment.
If a Payment Does Not Arrive
Check the date first. Most missing-payment calls trace back to a month where the deposit shifted earlier or later than the caller expected. If the scheduled date is correct and the money still has not arrived, SSA asks that you wait three additional business or mailing days before reporting it as missing.3Social Security Administration.
