The streaming services covered by Chase Sapphire depend on which card you carry. The Sapphire Preferred earns 3x Ultimate Rewards points on a defined list of 18 streaming services. The Sapphire Reserve takes a different path: no bonus points on streaming, but complimentary Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions plus a monthly credit toward Apple One.
The 18 Services That Earn 3x on the Sapphire Preferred
Chase defines its bonus streaming category as merchants that specialize in delivering music and video over the internet, and it maintains a specific list rather than relying broadly on merchant category codes. According to Chase’s rewards category FAQ, these services earn 3x points when charged to the Sapphire Preferred:
- Apple Music
- Apple TV
- Disney+
- ESPN+
- Fubo TV
- Max (formerly HBO Max)
- Hulu
- Netflix
- Pandora
- Paramount+
- Peacock
- Showtime
- SiriusXM
- Sling
- Spotify
- YouTube Premium
- YouTube TV
- Vudu
Only subscriptions paid for or purchases made directly with these merchants qualify. Services that aren’t on the list don’t earn the bonus, no matter how similar they look.
Popular Services That Aren’t Covered
Some widely used services are missing. Amazon Prime Video is not included, and no broader Amazon subscription qualifies. Audible and Kindle Unlimited don’t qualify either. Apple One, as a bundled subscription, does not appear on the list.
Chase also warns that a purchase may not earn the bonus if the merchant doesn’t carry the streaming category code, and that transactions processed through third-party payment accounts, digital wallets, or mobile card readers may fail to code correctly. Even a listed service can miss the bonus depending on how the charge is routed.
A Few Names on the List Are Outdated
Some entries no longer match current branding. Vudu still appears on Chase’s FAQ, even though the service rebranded to Fandango at Home in February 2024. Purchases from Fandango at Home should still qualify so long as the merchant code hasn’t changed, but Chase’s own FAQ cautions that a mismatched code means no bonus.
Showtime appears as a separate line item alongside Paramount+. The standalone Showtime streaming app shut down in April 2024, and the premium Showtime-branded tier was renamed Paramount+ Premium in June 2025. Chase hasn’t clarified whether a Paramount+ Premium subscription triggers the Showtime entry, the Paramount+ entry, or both.
HBO Max appears in some older Chase materials, but the current FAQ lists the service as Max, reflecting the rebrand. Subscriptions to Max code as streaming and qualify for 3x.
Bundled Subscriptions Are an Open Question
Chase’s documentation is silent on bundles. The Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle is one of the most popular packages in the U.S., and each service appears individually on the qualifying list, but Chase’s FAQ doesn’t confirm that a single bundled charge earns 3x. The same ambiguity applies to Apple One, which packages Apple TV and Apple Music with other Apple services that aren’t listed. Whether the charge codes correctly depends on how the billing merchant classifies it, and Chase offers no guarantee.
How the Sapphire Reserve Handles Streaming
The Chase Sapphire Reserve, despite its $795 annual fee, does not earn bonus points on streaming. Streaming purchases earn 1x per dollar, the same base rate as any non-bonus category. The Reserve’s bonus structure focuses on travel (8x on Chase Travel, 4x on flights and hotels booked directly) and dining (3x).
Instead of bonus points, the Reserve provides complimentary Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions, valued at $288 per year. Cardholders activate the benefit through the Chase app or website by linking their Apple ID. If you already pay Apple directly for either service, activating the Chase benefit automatically suspends your paid subscription; canceling the Chase benefit restores it.
Reserve cardholders can also apply a $15 per month discount toward any Apple One plan, including the Premier tier. That benefit launched in June 2026 and is applied automatically once activated through Chase’s benefits portal.
The Sapphire Preferred’s Apple Perk
The Sapphire Preferred includes a smaller Apple benefit alongside the 3x streaming category: one year of complimentary Apple TV, which must be activated by December 31, 2026. As an alternative, Preferred cardholders can take a $7.50 per month credit toward an Apple One subscription for up to 12 months. Both options require linking an Apple Account through the Chase app or website.
Which Card to Use for Streaming Charges
For streaming charges specifically, the Sapphire Preferred is the card. Its 3x rate applies year-round to the listed services. The Reserve’s 1x rate makes it the wrong card for these purchases unless the complimentary Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions outweigh the bonus points you’d give up by putting streaming on it instead.
