What Is the iolo.com Charge on Your Statement?

A charge labeled iolo.com on your bank or credit card statement is a payment to iolo technologies, a subsidiary of RealDefense LLC, for its System Mechanic PC optimization software or a related support subscription. Most iolo.com charges on a bank statement are automatic annual renewals of a System Mechanic subscription or a recurring monthly fee for the LiveTech 24/7 support add-on. Because iolo runs payments through two processors, the descriptor may not literally read “iolo,” which is why the charge often looks unfamiliar even when it’s legitimate.¹

Descriptors That Point Back to iolo

In the U.S., the charge commonly appears as “IOLO.com,” “RealDefense LLC,” “PAYPRO*IOLO,” or “PAYPAL *IOLO COM.” International statements may show “PAYPROSOFTWARE,” “PAYPRO,” “PAYPROEUROPE,” or just “Paypro.” RealDefense is iolo’s parent company; sticky.io and PayPro Global are the two processors iolo uses, which is why so many variations exist.¹²

The fastest way to confirm the charge is to search your email for messages from support@mail.iolo.com or sales@payproglobal.com. Purchase and renewal confirmations go out from those two addresses, and a matching receipt will tie the amount on your statement to a specific product.²

What the Amount Tells You

iolo sells three annual subscription tiers, and the amount on your statement usually maps to one of them:

System Mechanic: about $49.95 to $54.95 per year
System Mechanic Pro: about $69.95 to $74.95 per year
System Mechanic Ultimate Defense: about $79.95 to $84.95 per year

One annual subscription covers up to ten Windows PCs in a household. First-time purchases are often discounted, so a renewal charge may be higher than what you originally paid.³

A recurring monthly charge in the range of $19.95 to $29.95 is almost always LiveTech 24/7, iolo’s premium technical support service. LiveTech is frequently offered as a free trial during checkout and then converts to a paid monthly subscription once the trial ends, which is why it accounts for a large share of “I never signed up for this” complaints to the Better Business Bureau.⁴⁵

Why the Charge Appeared Without a New Purchase

iolo subscriptions renew automatically. When you check the auto-renewal box at checkout, the card on file gets billed at the renewal price on the subscription’s anniversary. iolo’s End User License Agreement allows the company to attempt that annual charge as early as 35 days before the expiration date, which is why some customers see the payment weeks before they think their term is up.⁶

Monthly subscriptions like LiveTech renew each month with no separate advance notice. The EULA also reserves the right to obtain updated card details from the card networks and to retry failed payments, so a renewal can go through after you’ve replaced or reissued the card that was originally used.⁶

If you downloaded System Mechanic through an AOL free-trial offer, billing details entered upfront also convert to a paid subscription once the trial period ends.⁷

How to Cancel Future Charges

To stop future billing, you have to cancel auto-renewal before the next charge date. iolo offers a few options:

Online: sign in at myaccount.iolo.com, open Edit Account, go to the Manage Active Subscriptions tab, and click Manage next to the subscription you want to cancel.⁸

If your statement shows a PAYPRO descriptor, you can also manage the subscription through PayPro Global’s customer portal at cc.payproglobal.com, or by calling 1-888-317-4868.¹⁰ And if you originally bought the software through AOL, cancel at myaccount.aol.com; iolo cannot end AOL-managed subscriptions.¹¹

Requesting a Refund

iolo’s stated policy is that standalone software purchased outside a subscription plan is refundable within 30 days, but subscription fees (monthly, quarterly, or annual) are generally not refundable. Uninstalling the software does not, by itself, trigger a refund under the written policy.⁶

In practice, BBB complaint records show that RealDefense frequently refunds subscription charges after a customer complains, often describing the refund as a goodwill gesture or an exception to the terms.¹² To ask for one, iolo directs customers to the live chat widget on its site or to phone support.¹³ When you call or chat, have the charge amount, descriptor, and date from your statement ready, along with the email address on the iolo account.

Disputing the Charge With Your Bank

If iolo will not resolve the charge, or if you’re convinced it’s genuinely unauthorized, you can dispute it through your credit card issuer under the Fair Credit Billing Act. Send a written dispute to the card issuer’s billing inquiry address within 60 days of the statement date on which the charge first appeared. Include your name, account number, the charge amount, and a description of the problem. Certified mail gives you proof of delivery.¹⁴

The issuer must acknowledge your notice within 30 days and resolve the dispute within 90 days. While the investigation is open, you can withhold payment on the disputed amount without being reported delinquent on it. Most issuers also let you start a dispute by phone or app, but following up in writing preserves your legal protections under the Act.¹⁵

When It Isn’t Really iolo

Not every contact claiming to come from iolo actually does. iolo warns that scammers impersonate iolo, System Mechanic, PayPro Global, and RealDefense by phone and email, claiming to have found malware or errors on your PC and pushing for remote access or bank details. iolo states that it does not make unsolicited sales or support calls, and neither do its payment processors or authorized affiliates; legitimate LiveTech representatives contact only customers who signed up for the service. Treat any unsolicited call asking for remote access or banking information as fraud, not as iolo.¹⁶
