What Is the Greenlight Financial Tech Charge? Fees and How to Stop It

A Greenlight Financial Tech charge on your bank statement is the recurring monthly subscription fee for Greenlight, an Atlanta-based debit card and money management app for families with children. The fee runs from $5.99 to $19.98 per month depending on which plan you signed up for, and it covers the whole household rather than billing per child.1Greenlight. How the Charge Shows Up

The transaction usually posts as “Greenlight,” sometimes followed by “Atlanta, GA.” Your bank may abbreviate or reformat the descriptor, but some version of the name will appear.1Greenlight. Why Do I See a Charge From Greenlight on My Bank Statement Charges recur monthly on the same calendar date, set by when you first registered.

If the dollar amount doesn’t line up with your plan’s monthly price, look for a one-time fee posted around the same time. A custom card or expedited shipping order can land on the same statement and throw off the total.

Why the Amount Is What It Is

Greenlight has four plan tiers, each priced per family for up to five children:2Greenlight. How Much Does Greenlight Cost

  • Infinity at $15.98 per month adds family location sharing, SOS alerts, driving reports, crash detection, and a 5% savings reward.3Greenlight. Greenlight Infinity – Family Location and Safety

Why You Got Charged During the “Free” Trial

Every paid plan advertises a one-month trial for new customers, but the first monthly fee actually posts on the seventh day after you complete registration, not at the end of a full month.6Greenlight. Fee Disclosures After that first charge, recurring billing falls 31 days after your registration date and repeats on the same calendar day each month.

To get that first charge refunded in full, you have to cancel before your first monthly billing date.7Greenlight. Is There a Free Trial If you signed up just to try the app and moved on, the day-seven fee is probably the charge you’re looking at.

One-Time Fees That Can Inflate the Total

A few extras carry their own charges outside the monthly subscription:

  • Cash reloads at retail locations can carry a service fee set by the reload network.
  • Out-of-network ATM operators charge their own fees, which Greenlight does not reimburse.

How to Stop the Charges

Cancel through the Greenlight mobile app by opening account settings and choosing the option to close your account. The app confirms that the primary account holder is the one requesting closure. If you can’t get into the app, call 888-483-2645 or email support@greenlight.com to reach a representative who can process the cancellation.9Greenlight. How Do I Close My Greenlight Account

Before you close the account, move any remaining balances in the parent and child wallets back to your linked bank. Once cancellation goes through, all debit cards deactivate immediately and monthly billing stops. Any balance you didn’t transfer will be refunded to your funding source within five to seven business days.9Greenlight. How Do I Close My Greenlight Account Keep whatever confirmation you receive. That record is your best leverage if a charge appears afterward.

Disputing a Charge or Requesting a Refund

Start with Greenlight support. Contact them with your account email and the exact transaction date. When someone forgets to cancel before a trial converts, Greenlight may issue a one-time courtesy refund, though that call is theirs. A cancellation confirmation or earlier support ticket makes the request much harder to wave off.

If you can’t resolve it with the company, federal law gives you a separate route through your bank. The Electronic Fund Transfer Act lets you file a dispute for an unauthorized or incorrect electronic charge. Your bank has to investigate within ten business days of receiving your notice and may provisionally credit the disputed amount while the investigation continues, which can take up to 45 days.10Office of the Law Revision Counsel. Timing matters. You generally need to report an unauthorized charge within 60 days of receiving the statement that first shows it. Report within that window and your liability is capped at $50. Miss the 60-day deadline and you could be responsible for losses that occur after the window closes.11Office of the Law Revision Counsel.
