What Is Team Knowhow Cloud on Your Bank Statement?

If you see a “Team Knowhow Cloud” line on your bank statement, it’s an auto-renewing charge for a cloud backup subscription sold by Currys, the UK electronics retailer. It usually runs about £30 to £40 a year and renews on its own until you cancel. Most people encounter it a year or more after buying a laptop, tablet, or phone from Currys, having forgotten they set up the bundled backup at the till.

Why the Old Name Still Shows Up

Team Knowhow was Currys’ in-house tech services brand. In October 2021, Currys folded Currys PC World, Carphone Warehouse, Team Knowhow, and Dixons Carphone into a single “Currys” identity, but the Team Knowhow name still surfaces on bank statements and older subscriptions.1Currys PLC. It stores files, photos, and documents on remote servers so you can recover them if your device fails, and it’s sold in one-year or three-year terms.2Currys. Cloud Backup for Rainy Days

Why the Charge Appeared Without Warning

The subscription is usually set up when you buy a device in-store and the backup is bundled with the purchase. During activation you’re asked for card details for auto-renewal at the end of the contract term. Nothing is charged at that point, which is why the arrangement slips out of mind. When the original one-year or three-year term ends, the service renews and the card is charged.2Currys. Cloud Backup for Rainy Days

Timing matters. To stop the next renewal, you must cancel no less than one week before the end of your current contract period. Miss that window and you still have a 14-day statutory cancellation right after each renewal date under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.3Currys Cloud Backup. Can You Get a Refund?

Usually not. Currys’ terms state that all fees are non-refundable except in specific circumstances.3Currys Cloud Backup. Forgetting you had the subscription is not on that list.

The one broader opening is the 14-day statutory cancellation right after each renewal. Cancel within 14 days of a renewal date and UK consumer rules entitle you to a full or proportionate refund for that renewal. Outside those 14 days, you pay for the remainder of the term whether you use it or not.3Currys Cloud Backup. Cloud Backup Terms of Use

Disputing the Charge With Your Bank

If you believe the charge is genuinely unauthorized, or you cancelled and charges kept coming, you can escalate to your bank or card issuer. Try to cancel with Currys first and keep the confirmation email. Banks weigh whether you made a good-faith attempt to resolve the issue with the merchant before treating a subscription charge as a billing error.

For debit card or bank account transactions in the United States, the Electronic Fund Transfer Act gives you 60 days from the date your bank sends the statement showing the error to report it. You provide your name and account number, identify the charge, and explain why you think it’s wrong. The bank then has ten business days to investigate.5Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693f – Error Resolution

For credit card charges, the Fair Credit Billing Act sets a similar 60-day window from the mailing date of the statement containing the error. The dispute must be in writing, not on a payment stub, and must identify the account, the suspected error, and the amount.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors

How the Charge Might Read on Your Statement

The description varies by bank. Common variations include “TEAM KNOWHOW CLOUD,” “TM KNOWHOW CLOUD,” or “KNOWHOW” followed by a reference number. Some banks truncate the merchant name, which makes identification harder. If the amount falls in the £30 to £40 range and you’ve ever bought electronics from Currys, this subscription is the most likely source.

To confirm, log into curryscloudbackup.co.uk or call 0800 012 1909 with the email address used at the time of purchase. Support can look up whether an active subscription is tied to your details and match it against the charge.3Currys Cloud Backup. Cloud Backup Terms of Use
