RBC service charges are the monthly fees Royal Bank of Canada deducts from a personal or business account in exchange for a package of transactions, transfers, and ATM access. On personal chequing accounts, they run from $4 a month at the entry level to $30 a month on the top tier, and most can be reduced or eliminated through the Value Program, student or senior status, newcomer waivers, or by holding other RBC products.

The Value Program: The Main Way to Cut the Monthly Fee
The Value Program is RBC’s primary rebate mechanism, and the bank automatically applies whichever single rebate gives you the largest discount, so there’s no need to pick between overlapping offers.
To earn a monthly rebate, enroll an eligible chequing account and complete at least two of three activities each calendar month: a direct deposit (such as payroll or a government payment), a pre-authorized payment, or an eligible bill payment through Online Banking, the mobile app, an ATM, or Telephone Banking.5RBC Royal Bank. Value Program Terms Starting August 3, 2026, only one qualifying activity per month will be required.6RBC Royal Bank. Upcoming Changes to Personal Banking Services
The rebate size depends on how many additional RBC product categories you hold: personal credit cards, residential mortgages, personal investments (with at least $500 or a recurring contribution), or a linked small business relationship. Two categories earn up to $6 per month. Three or more earn up to $12.95 a month, enough to fully offset Advantage Banking and significantly cut the higher-tier fees.7RBC Royal Bank. RBC Value Program

- Non-sufficient funds (NSF): $10 per occurrence. Since March 6, 2026, the fee isn’t charged if the overdraft would be less than $10, and it can’t be imposed more than once within two business days on the same account. The $10 cap was set by the federal government, which reduced NSF fees from as high as $50 at some institutions.12RBC Royal Bank. Additional Account Services13Government of Canada.
