What Is Gusto AcctVerify on Your Bank Statement?

If you see a line labeled something like “Gusto AcctVerify” on your bank statement, it’s one of two small test deposits Gusto sends to confirm you own the account you added to your payroll profile. The amounts are usually just a few cents each, and you’ll need to type both of them into Gusto to finish verifying the account before you can run payroll or pay contractors.1Gusto Embedded Payroll. What the Deposits Look Like

After you add a bank account in Gusto, the platform automatically sends two penny-level credits to that account. They typically clear within two to three business days.1Gusto Embedded Payroll. Manage Company Bank Accounts – Section: 1. Create a Bank Account

The descriptor varies by bank. Some institutions truncate or abbreviate the originator, so the line might read “GUSTO,” “ZENPAYROLL” (Gusto’s former company name), “AcctVerify,” or a shortened mix of those. If your company offers tax-advantaged benefits such as an FSA, HSA, or commuter account, you may also see a separate $1.00 test debit with the descriptor “MBI/Med-I-Bank.”2Gusto. Write both verification amounts down to the exact cent. One wrong digit forces a restart.

How to Confirm the Amounts in Gusto

Once the two credits land, finish verification inside your account:

  • Sign in to Gusto, click your name in the top-right corner, and select Settings.
  • Open Plan & billing and scroll to the Bank accounts section.
  • Find the unverified account and click Confirm test transactions under the Status column.
  • Enter the two deposit amounts exactly as they appear on your statement, to the cent.

Keep your bank statement open while you do this. Gusto allows a maximum of five attempts to enter the correct amounts. After five failed tries, the system cancels the current verification and sends a new pair of test deposits, and you wait out the two-to-three-business-day cycle again.3Gusto. If the Deposits Never Show Up

The most common reason test deposits don’t arrive is a wrong routing or account number. If two to three business days have passed with nothing on your statement, go back into Gusto, remove the bank account, and re-add it with the correct details. Verify the numbers against a voided check or your bank’s online portal rather than from memory.5Gusto. Verify a Company Bank Account for Admins

One subtle trap: some banks encrypt or mask the account number printed on physical checks for security, so the number on the check may not match the one the bank uses for electronic transactions. If you copied from a check, try entering the account and routing numbers manually, and remove any Plaid-connected version of the account in Gusto first.5Gusto. Deposits can also fail silently when the receiving account has issues of its own. Insufficient funds, a bank-side block on incoming ACH transactions, and frozen accounts are all possibilities.5Gusto. Skipping the Wait With Plaid

If you’d rather not sit through the test-deposit cycle, Gusto offers instant verification through Plaid, which connects to more than 12,000 financial institutions.6Plaid. Partner Directory Instead of waiting for small credits to clear, you log in to your bank through a secure Plaid window inside Gusto. Plaid encrypts your bank credentials and doesn’t share your username or password with Gusto.5Gusto. Verify a Company Bank Account for Admins

To use it, sign in to Gusto, click your company name in the left menu, go to Settings, then Plan & billing. Under Bank accounts, find your account and click Connect to Plaid, then follow the prompts to log in to your bank. When the connection succeeds, the Bank Connection status reads “Connected” and the account is verified immediately.5Gusto. Instant verification also gives Gusto real-time visibility into your account balance, which lets the platform flag funding problems before a payroll run fails.7Gusto. Processing Payroll Overview for Admins

Why Verification Matters

A verified bank account is what unlocks payroll processing and contractor payments inside Gusto. Until the two test amounts are confirmed (or the Plaid connection goes through), the platform won’t let you run payroll. Finishing verification well before your first scheduled pay date is the simplest way to avoid a scramble when the deadline hits.
