What Is a Discord Charge on Your Bank Statement?

A Discord charge on your bank statement comes from Discord, the messaging and community platform, and it is almost always a subscription or in-app purchase tied to an account using your payment method. The most common amounts are $9.99 a month for Discord Nitro and $2.99 a month for Nitro Basic, but server boosts, gifts, premium app subscriptions, and one-time shop purchases can also appear. Because Discord subscriptions renew automatically, the charge may be for something you signed up for months ago and forgot about. If the amount doesn’t match anything you bought, that’s a separate problem with a different fix.

How the Charge Appears on Your Statement

Discord purchases show up under the descriptor “DISCORD*” or “PAYPAL DISCORD,” depending on how you paid.1Discord. How to Report Unrecognized Charges From an Unknown Discord Account The descriptor doesn’t say which product was purchased, so a Nitro subscription, a server boost, and a gift can all look identical on your statement.

If the amount is slightly higher than a price you recognize, check for sales tax. Discord collects tax where required by law, so the statement figure can run a bit above the advertised subscription price.2Discord. Paid Services Terms

What the Amount Probably Means

Matching the dollar amount to a product is the fastest way to identify a Discord charge:

  • $9.99 per month: Nitro, the full subscription. An annual option is available at a discount.3Discord. Nitro Benefits and Features
  • $2.99 per month: Nitro Basic, the lighter subscription tier.3Discord. Nitro Benefits and Features
  • $4.99 per month: A standalone server boost, which renews automatically.
  • Variable one-time charges: A gift subscription for someone else, or a shop item like an avatar decoration or profile effect. Gifts and shop items do not recur.
  • Variable monthly charges: A premium app subscription for a third-party app or bot on Discord. Pricing is set by the developer and the subscription renews until cancelled.4Discord. Premium App FAQ

All recurring subscriptions keep charging your payment method until you cancel. Discord’s paid services terms state that you authorize the company to charge on each renewal date unless you cancel first.2Discord. Paid Services Terms

Verify the Charge Inside Discord

Open Discord and go to User Settings, then the Billing tab. Your full payment history lives there, and you can download an invoice for any transaction.5Discord. Managing Subscriptions and Billing FAQ Compare the date and amount on your bank statement to the entries listed. If they match, the charge is legitimate even if you don’t remember the purchase, and your decision is whether to keep the subscription or cancel it.

If there’s no matching entry in your billing history, the charge did not come from your Discord account. Someone else used your payment method, either by hijacking your account or by using your card details on a different account entirely. The response depends on which.

If the Charge Is Unauthorized

Look for signs your own Discord account was compromised: unfamiliar entries in your billing history, servers you didn’t join, messages you didn’t send, or an email from Discord saying your email address was changed. If you can still log in, change your password, turn on two-factor authentication, and go to Authorized Apps under User Settings to remove anything you don’t recognize.6Discord. My Discord Account was Hacked or Compromised Then submit a report through Discord’s compromised account form and run a malware scan on your computer, since credential theft often starts with an infected device.

If the charge has no connection to your Discord account at all, report it through Discord’s unrecognized charges process. You’ll need the transaction date and amount, the payment method used, an identifier such as the last four digits of your card, and a screenshot of the charge from your bank statement. Discord does not accept its own receipts as proof here; the screenshot has to come from your bank or payment provider.1Discord. How to Report Unrecognized Charges From an Unknown Discord Account

How to Cancel to Stop Future Charges

Cancelling stops the next renewal while letting you keep premium features through the end of the current billing period. The method depends on where you originally subscribed, and this is where most people get stuck.

Desktop or Browser

Click the cogwheel next to your username, open User Settings, and go to the Subscriptions tab. Select Cancel in the Nitro or Nitro Basic banner and follow the prompts to the confirmation screen.7Discord. How to Cancel your Nitro Subscription If you stop before the final confirmation, the subscription stays active and you’ll be charged again. Premium app subscriptions cancel from the same Subscriptions tab, through the Manage dropdown next to the app.8Discord. How to Cancel your Premium App Subscription

iPhone or Android

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, cancelling inside the Discord app won’t stop the charges. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your Apple ID, go to Subscriptions, find Discord Nitro, and tap Cancel Subscription.7Discord. How to Cancel your Nitro Subscription For Google Play, open the Play Store or go to play.google.com, open Payments & Subscriptions, select Subscriptions, find Discord, and cancel there.

People get caught here all the time. They cancel inside Discord, assume it’s done, and then see another charge a month later because the App Store or Play Store subscription was never touched. If you can’t remember where you signed up, check both your Apple or Google subscription settings and your Discord billing history.

How to Request a Refund

Discord takes refund requests through its support ticket system. Go to the Discord support site, pick the “Refunds, Cancellations & Payments” category, fill in your details, and submit. You’ll get a confirmation email with a ticket number.9Discord. How to Submit a Support Ticket to Discord If approved, the refund goes back to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days.10Discord. Refund Policy

The policy is stricter than most subscription services:

  • Refund requests for Nitro and server boosts purchased on desktop, web, or Android must be submitted within five days of the charge.10Discord. Refund Policy
  • You only get one refund per purchase category. A past Nitro refund disqualifies you from another.
  • Claimed gift subscriptions cannot be refunded. Only unclaimed gifts qualify, and the five-day window still applies.10Discord. Refund Policy
  • Avatar decorations, profile effects, and other in-app cosmetics are non-refundable.10Discord. Refund Policy
  • If you redeemed a promotional offer tied to your Nitro subscription within five days of a renewal, that renewal is not eligible.

Discord reviews requests case by case and eligibility is at its discretion. The five-day window is what catches most people; waiting a week or two usually means missing it.

Nitro Bought Through Apple or Google

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, Discord generally cannot refund the purchase. Apple refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com, logged in with the Apple ID used for the purchase. Google Play refunds go through Google’s own support system. The one narrow exception: server subscription refunds purchased through iOS can be handled by Discord’s team if you ask within five days of the initial purchase, and only as a one-time exception.11Discord. iOS Purchases on Discord FAQ

Think Twice Before Filing a Bank Chargeback

When a refund request fails or feels slow, calling your bank to dispute the charge seems like the obvious move. With Discord, it carries a real cost: filing a chargeback can get your Discord account suspended.12Discord. Chargebacks FAQ Discord treats chargebacks as potential fraud, and its Terms of Service prohibit abusing the payment system.

You can appeal a suspension by submitting a support request that explains why you filed the chargeback, provides evidence that you’ve withdrawn the dispute with your bank if applicable, and includes a bank screenshot of the transaction.12Discord. Chargebacks FAQ Discord deletes all data from chargeback-suspended accounts after 90 days, so missing that window means losing the account permanently. Work through Discord’s refund process first and reserve a bank chargeback for charges that are genuinely unauthorized.

Your Rights for Truly Unauthorized Charges

If someone made unauthorized purchases using your debit card or bank account, the Electronic Fund Transfer Act limits how much you can be held liable for. Report the charge to your bank within two business days of discovering it and your maximum liability is $50. Report after two business days but within 60 days of the statement, and liability can climb to $500. Miss the 60-day window and you could be on the hook for the full amount of any transfers that happen after that deadline.13Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.6 – Liability of Consumer for Unauthorized Transfers

When you notify your bank of an error, it must investigate. Your notice should include the type of transaction, the date, and the amount, to the extent you can provide them.14Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors Credit card charges carry separate protections under the Fair Credit Billing Act, which generally caps unauthorized liability at $50 regardless of timing. Either way, report fast. The sooner the notice reaches your bank, the less of the loss sits with you.
