The Land Rover warranty covers nearly every factory-installed component against manufacturing defects for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, with longer separate terms for body corrosion, emissions parts, and electrified batteries. Repairs under the warranty are performed at no charge by a Land Rover Approved Service Center. A long list of exclusions — routine maintenance, wear items, damage, and unauthorized modifications — sits alongside that coverage, and keeping the warranty valid depends on following the service schedule.
What the Four-Year, 50,000-Mile Warranty Covers
Every new Land Rover sold in the United States is backed by a manufacturer warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.1Land Rover USA. Warranty During that window, any part with a confirmed manufacturing fault is repaired or replaced at no cost, provided the work is done at a Land Rover Approved Service Center.2Land Rover USA. Warranty and Roadside Assistance Land Rover calls the coverage “fully comprehensive,” and the term “bumper to bumper” fits: it reaches the engine, transmission, electrical systems, suspension, climate control, infotainment hardware, and essentially every factory component.
One point surprises some buyers coming from mainstream brands. Land Rover does not offer a separate, longer powertrain warranty. The four-year, 50,000-mile window is the only factory coverage period for the engine, transmission, and drivetrain alike.3Land Rover USA. Vehicle Warranty
Longer Coverage for Rust, Emissions Parts, and Batteries
Three categories of components get their own longer terms that run past the basic warranty.
Corrosion Perforation
Body perforation from rust is covered for six years with no mileage limit.1Land Rover USA. Warranty This applies to holes that rust through body panels from the inside or underside. It does not apply to surface rust, road wheels, bright trim, bumpers, moldings, or hinges, and it excludes paint damage from acid rain, industrial fallout, or stone chips.4NHTSA. Emissions Components
Federal law requires two emissions warranties under the Clean Air Act. A design-and-defect warranty covers most emissions-related parts for two years or 24,000 miles. Three major components — the catalytic converter, the electronic emissions control unit, and the onboard diagnostics computer — are covered for eight years or 80,000 miles.5EPA. Frequent Questions Related to Transportation Air Pollution A separate performance warranty of the same length applies to those same major components, but only if the vehicle actually fails an approved emissions test in an area with a qualifying inspection program. California buyers may have additional coverage; court filings in one class action cited a seven-year, 70,000-mile California emissions warranty for Land Rover vehicles.6Bloomberg Law. Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Batteries
Fully electric Land Rovers carry an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. Plug-in hybrid models are covered for six years or 60,000 miles.7Land Rover USA. Maximise Your Battery Life For PHEVs, the warranty reportedly applies if the battery’s state of charge drops below 70 percent, provided the vehicle has been properly maintained and regularly charged.8Land Rover Naperville. Land Rover PHEV Research Individual modules containing defective cells can be replaced to restore the pack rather than swapping the entire battery.
What the Warranty Does Not Cover
Land Rover’s “Passport to Service” booklet lists the exclusions in detail. The categories that catch most owners are routine maintenance, normal wear, damage from outside events, and unauthorized modifications.
Routine maintenance is the owner’s responsibility: oil changes, engine tune-ups, oil and air filters, lubricants, and cleaning or polishing.9Topix Land Rover. Passport to Service Wear-and-tear parts get limited coverage only. Brake pads, brake discs, and windshield wiper blades are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one year or 12,500 miles, not against normal wear. Wheel alignment and tire balancing are limited to the same one-year or 12,500-mile window.
Damage from accidents, collisions, fire, flood, theft, vandalism, and hail is excluded, along with surface corrosion, stone chips, scratches, dents, tree sap, bird droppings, and road salt damage.4NHTSA. Jaguar Land Rover Warranty Documentation Misuse voids coverage for the resulting damage. That includes racing, overloading, using the vehicle as a stationary power source, and using contaminated or incorrect fuel.9Topix Land Rover. Passport to Service
Modifications are a frequent source of denied claims. Aftermarket performance chips, remapped engine software, cold-air intakes, and modified exhaust systems can lead to denial on related components.4NHTSA. Jaguar Land Rover Warranty Documentation Non-approved parts and accessories are not covered, and damage they cause to a covered component is excluded too. Vehicles with titles branded salvage, flood, rebuilt, or dismantled lose warranty eligibility entirely.9Topix Land Rover. Passport to Service
Tires are not covered by Land Rover at all. They carry their own manufacturer warranty from Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, or Pirelli, depending on the model.9Topix Land Rover. Passport to Service
Roadside Assistance Included With the Warranty
Land Rover bundles 24/7 roadside assistance with the new vehicle warranty for the full four-year, 50,000-mile period. Covered services include flat tire help, fuel delivery, battery jump-starts, lockout service, and emergency towing to the nearest authorized retailer or another retailer within 50 miles.10Land Rover South Bay. Warranty If a warranty-related breakdown strands the owner more than 50 miles from home, trip-interruption benefits reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses such as hotel stays and meals.11Land Rover Darien. Land Rover Roadside Assistance Where available, a mobile technician can be dispatched from the nearest retailer to the vehicle’s location.
Keeping Your Warranty Valid
Following the scheduled maintenance intervals is essential to keeping coverage in force. For the Range Rover and Discovery lines, the first service is due at 16,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, with subsequent services every 16,000 miles or 12 months. Defender models have a slightly longer initial interval of 21,000 miles or 12 months.12Birmingham Land Rover. How Often Should You Service Your Range Rover, Defender, or Discovery SUV Services alternate between minor visits (oil change, tire pressure check, fluid level inspection) and major visits that add brake, suspension, and emissions checks.
Land Rover states that its Approved Service Centers are “the only service centers that meet Land Rover’s rigorous standards for quality and service, to ensure your new vehicle and its warranty are fully protected.”1Land Rover USA. Warranty Keep receipts and records of all maintenance and emergency repairs. If a dispute arises later, formal repair orders are what count.
How to File a Warranty Claim
Warranty work has to be performed at an authorized Land Rover facility. To start a claim, contact the nearest authorized retailer, found through the dealer locator on the Land Rover website. Technicians use manufacturer diagnostic equipment to assess the vehicle’s mechanical and electronic systems. If the issue qualifies, the repair is completed under warranty and the service record is updated.1Land Rover USA. Warranty For aluminum body damage, Land Rover directs owners to its Authorized Aluminum Repair Network, a separate group of facilities with specialized tools and certified technicians.
Certified Pre-Owned Coverage
Land Rover Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles come with their own limited warranty in two configurations: one year with unlimited miles, or two years with a 100,000-mile cap.13Land Rover USA. Warranty Certification Coverage generally begins when the original new vehicle warranty expires. The CPO warranty includes 24/7 roadside assistance with emergency towing and is fully transferable if the vehicle is resold.14Land Rover Woodland Hills. Warranty
Extending Coverage With Vehicle Service Protection
Land Rover sells an optional service contract, Vehicle Service Protection, that can extend mechanical coverage to seven years or 120,000 miles from the vehicle’s original in-service date.15Land Rover USA. Extended Limited Warranty It is a service plan rather than a warranty extension, running concurrently with any remaining factory warranty and excluding failures already covered by the manufacturer warranty.
The plan covers more than 1,500 parts across the engine, transmission, drive axle, hybrid and electric systems, suspension, climate control, fuel and electrical systems, steering, brakes, and infotainment, with 24-hour roadside assistance, towing reimbursement, and rental car reimbursement.15Land Rover USA. Extended Limited Warranty Deductible options are $250 or $500 per repair visit, and repairs must use genuine Land Rover parts installed by certified technicians.16MarketWatch. Land Rover Extended Warranty
To be eligible, the vehicle must have at least 30 days and 1,000 miles remaining on its manufacturer or CPO warranty when the plan is purchased. It is transferable to a new private-party owner and can be canceled at any time: a full refund within 30 days, or a prorated refund minus a $50 fee after that.15Land Rover USA. Extended Limited Warranty Pricing is set by individual dealerships and is not published; recent secret-shopping estimates put the cost between roughly $4,480 and $7,239 depending on the term and vehicle.16MarketWatch. When Claims Are Denied
Land Rover vehicles have been the subject of recurring complaints about warranty denials and persistent mechanical problems, including engine stalling and misfires, turbocharger failures, electrical malfunctions, coolant and oil leaks, and suspension and braking problems.17The Lemon Firm. Can I Sue if I Bought a Land Rover Lemon Dealers have reportedly denied claims by citing aftermarket modifications, “outside influence,” evidence of tampering, or water ingress into the engine air intake.
One significant class action, Flynn-Murphy v. Jaguar Land Rover North America, alleged that certain 2013–2016 Range Rover Evoques, 2015–2017 Discovery Sports, and 2013–2015 LR2s were sold with turbochargers prone to premature failure, leading to engine damage. JLRNA denied wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement that received final court approval in November 2025.18Claim Depot. Turbocharger Settlement The settlement provided reimbursement of up to $3,750 for turbocharger repairs and up to $12,000 for related engine repairs, along with extended warranty coverage up to 10 years or 100,000 miles for affected components.19Turbocharger Settlement. The practical lesson for owners is to document every repair visit on an official repair order. Informal complaints and manufacturer case numbers generally do not count as formal evidence for warranty or lemon law claims.
