What Does Mopar Vehicle Protection Cover? Tiers, Cost, and Benefits

Mopar Vehicle Protection coverage, now sold under the FlexCare Vehicle Protection name, is Stellantis’s factory-backed extended service contract for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo vehicles. Depending on the tier you choose, it covers anywhere from the basic powertrain to more than 5,000 mechanical components, with terms available up to eight years or 125,000 miles.¹ Plans do not replace your factory warranty; they extend mechanical repair coverage past the point where the three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty expire.²

One thing to know up front about the clock. For new and certified pre-owned vehicles, the plan term starts on the vehicle’s original warranty start date at zero miles, not on the day you buy the contract.³ A five-year/100,000-mile plan bought four months into ownership still expires five years from the original warranty start date.

The Three Mechanical Coverage Tiers

All three tiers are available for gas, diesel, and battery-electric vehicles, though the component counts differ by powertrain.¹

Extended Care (Formerly Powertrain Care)

The entry-level plan sticks to the major powertrain systems: engine, transmission, driveline, steering, and air conditioning on gas and diesel vehicles. For EVs, it covers the electric drivetrain plus more than 500 components.¹ Suspension, brakes, electrical systems, and infotainment are not included at this tier.⁴

Extended Care Plus (Formerly Added Care Plus)

The mid-tier plan covers more than 800 components on gas and diesel vehicles and more than 1,100 on EVs.¹ You get the engine and internal parts, transmission and torque converter, driveline components (transfer cases, CV joints, differentials), steering, air conditioning, engine cooling and fuel systems, suspension, brakes and ABS, electrical systems (starter, alternator, control modules, wiring harnesses), factory-installed radios and UConnect, power window and seat motors, and instrumentation.⁵ What it leaves out, compared to the top tier, is primarily luxury electronics, advanced driver-assist features, and some of the more niche components.⁴

Extended Care Premium (Formerly Maximum Care)

The top tier covers more than 5,000 components on gas and diesel vehicles and more than 2,500 on EVs.¹ The covered systems include engine and emissions, transmission, driveline, steering, air conditioning, engine cooling and fuel, electrical and expanded electrical, front and rear suspension, brakes and anti-lock brakes, instrumentation, the power group, the luxury group, body mechanisms, manual interior mechanisms, and safety and security systems.⁶

Specific items at this level go well past the basics: factory-installed navigation, heated seats and steering wheels, power liftgate and sliding-door motors, remote start, in-vehicle wireless charging, backup cameras, park-assist systems, keyless entry modules, airbag components (deployed units excluded), and Mopar accessories installed by an authorized dealer.⁷ Terms run up to eight years and 125,000 miles, with a lifetime option available.⁶

What Is Never Covered

Some categories sit outside every tier. Routine maintenance and the parts used in it are not covered. Wear items are excluded: tires, brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, belts, wiper blades, spark plugs, batteries, and light bulbs.⁷ Body and paint, glass, plastic lenses, trim, carpet, upholstery, catalytic converters, particulate filters, manual clutch parts, and aftermarket add-ons like snowplows, winches, and trailer hitches are also out.⁶

Damage from neglected maintenance, accidents, fire, vandalism, competitive racing, overloading, or the use of non-recommended fluids or fuels is excluded. Pre-existing conditions and repairs made before you bought the plan are not covered. Altered odometers and unauthorized non-dealer service can get a claim denied.⁷

Benefits Included With Every Plan

Each mechanical plan carries a bundle of ancillary benefits, regardless of tier:

24-hour roadside assistance up to $100 per occurrence, covering towing, flat-tire changes, battery jumps, fuel delivery (up to two gallons), and lockout service, with no upfront payment at the scene.
A $45 first-day rental or taxi reimbursement for any same-day dealership mechanical repair or maintenance visit.
Car rental allowance up to $45 per day, capped at $225 per repair occurrence, when a covered failure keeps the vehicle out overnight.
Trip interruption protection up to $1,000 for lodging, meals, and rental expenses if the vehicle breaks down more than 100 miles from home.
Key fob repair or replacement for up to three incidents, with a total maximum benefit of $600.¹

The rental allowance and trip interruption benefits apply even while the factory warranty is still active, as long as a covered component failure leaves the vehicle inoperable.¹

What a Plan Costs

FlexCare plans generally run from $700 to $5,000. Entry-level Extended Care typically costs $700 to $2,000, mid-tier Extended Care Plus $1,200 to $3,500, and top-tier Extended Care Premium $1,500 to $5,000.⁸ Every plan lets you choose a $0, $100, or $200 deductible per repair visit. A higher deductible lowers the upfront contract cost.⁶

Pricing is tied to the specific VIN, and mileage at purchase is a major factor. Buying earlier in the vehicle’s life is cheaper. New-vehicle plans see price increases at 12,000 and 24,000 miles, and pre-owned plans use multiple mileage thresholds, with differences that can exceed $1,000 for the same coverage level.⁹ Dealers set retail pricing within corporate guidelines, so quotes vary from one dealer to another.⁸

Who Can Buy and When

Plans are available for all Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo vehicles. Most non-Stellantis makes can also be covered, but eligibility has to be confirmed with a dealer.³

New-vehicle plans must be purchased within three years and 36,000 miles of the warranty start date; surcharges may apply after one year or 12,000 miles. Certified pre-owned plans require an active CPO limited warranty and fewer than 75,000 miles on the odometer. Traditional pre-owned plans are available for vehicles no more than ten model years old with fewer than 150,000 miles (or 125,000 miles for vehicles with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty), and a dealer inspection is required before enrollment.³

Add-On and Lease Products

Beyond the three mechanical tiers, FlexCare sells separate products that address other ownership risks. These are bought in addition to a repair plan, not in place of one.

Road Hazard Tire and Wheel covers full repair or replacement of all four tires and wheels for damage from potholes, curbs, and debris, including mounting, balancing, valve stems, and tire-pressure sensors. Both OEM and aftermarket tires and wheels qualify, with a $0 deductible. Terms run two to seven years, and vehicles up to ten model years old with fewer than 100,000 miles can enroll. Regular tread wear is not covered.¹⁰

Auto Appearance Care provides unlimited paintless dent repair on metal panels with no deductible, for terms of one to five years, and is transferable. An upgraded Plus version adds windshield chip and crack repair, carpet and floor mat coverage, and interior trim and upholstery repair for damage up to two inches in diameter.¹¹

MultiCare bundles road hazard tire and wheel, cosmetic wheel repair for curb damage, paintless dent repair (with hail-damage deductible coverage up to $1,000), windshield chip and crack repair, key and fob replacement, 24/7 roadside assistance, and interior and exterior repair into a single plan for up to seven years. MultiCare is not available in all states.¹³ Lease Protect covers paintless dent repair, glass and windshield damage, seat and carpet damage, tire and rim damage, and key fob repair or replacement. Platinum Lease is the most comprehensive lease package, combining Extended Care Premium mechanical coverage, road hazard tire and wheel protection, auto appearance care, key fob coverage, and scheduled oil changes and tire rotations.¹

GAP Plus is a waiver product, not insurance. If the vehicle is declared a total loss from accident, theft, or natural disaster, GAP Plus covers the difference between the primary insurer’s payout and the remaining finance balance, plus the primary insurance deductible up to $1,000. There is no maximum dollar amount on covered losses waived, and the plan covers finance terms up to 96 months.¹⁴ Late fees, delinquent or skipped payments, and losses from fraudulent or illegal acts are excluded.¹⁵ Availability is restricted in Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, New York, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Nevada.¹⁶

Transferring or Canceling Your Plan

You can transfer a plan to a new owner when you sell the vehicle. The fee is $50 in most states (no fee in New Hampshire), the transfer form signed by the original owner must be submitted within 60 days of the ownership change, and the plan has to be paid in full before transfer.¹⁷

Only the original purchaser can cancel, and only if the plan has not expired or been transferred. Cancel within the first 60 days with no claims paid and you get a full refund. After that, or if claims have been paid, the refund is prorated by time or mileage, minus claims paid and a cancellation fee. Cancellation fees vary by state, ranging from no fee in New Hampshire and Puerto Rico to $75 in most states, with percentage-based formulas in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.¹⁷

A Note on the FlexCare Name

FlexCare is replacing Mopar Vehicle Protection as the global Stellantis brand for these contracts. The tier names changed with it: Maximum Care became Extended Care Premium, Added Care Plus became Extended Care Plus, and Powertrain Care Plus became Extended Care.¹⁸ If you bought a plan under the older Mopar branding, you still get the same factory-backed coverage, and all plans are honored at authorized dealers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.¹

For leased vehicles, three options exist. Lease Wear and Tear waives covered excess wear charges at lease end up to $5,000, with a $1,000 cap per item and a $200 cap on excess mileage, covering paint wear, dents, scratches, upholstery damage, glass chips, carpet, bumper and trim damage, and tire wear.12Mopar.
