Liberty Mutual roadside assistance covers five services when your car breaks down: towing, battery jump-starts, emergency fuel delivery, flat tire changes, and vehicle lockout help. It is not built into an auto policy automatically. You have to add the Towing & Labor Coverage endorsement, which averages about $23 per year, and then you can request help any time by calling 800-426-9898 or using the Liberty Mutual mobile app.1SmartFinancial. The Five Covered Services
The endorsement responds to mechanical breakdowns and disablements. Here is what each service actually gets you:2Liberty Mutual. 24-Hour Roadside Assistance
- Towing to the nearest qualified repair facility. Distance limits depend on your policy tier.3Liberty Mutual Group. Customer Disclaimer
- Battery jump-start at the roadside.
- Fuel delivery to your location. The delivery is covered; the fuel itself you pay for on the spot.2Liberty Mutual. 24-Hour Roadside Assistance
- Flat tire change, provided your car has its own inflated spare. Liberty Mutual does not supply a replacement tire.3Liberty Mutual Group. Customer Disclaimer
- Lockout service to open your vehicle if the keys are inside.
How Far Will They Tow You
Towing is the one benefit that changes between policy tiers. Essential, Enhanced, Superior, and Ultra all tow up to 15 miles to a qualified repair facility. The Premier tier stretches that distance to 100 miles.3Liberty Mutual Group. Customer Disclaimer The other four services look the same across every tier.
If you call your own tow truck instead of going through Liberty Mutual’s dispatch, the company may only reimburse part of the cost.1SmartFinancial. Liberty Mutual Roadside Assistance Call 800-426-9898 or use the app first if you want the full benefit.
What Is Not Covered
A few gaps catch drivers off guard:
- Winching and extrication. If your car is stuck in snow, mud, or a ditch, pulling it out is not part of the coverage.1SmartFinancial. Liberty Mutual Roadside Assistance
- Towing after an accident. Roadside assistance handles mechanical disablements. A tow after a collision goes under your collision or comprehensive coverage instead.4Liberty Mutual Group. Contact Us
- The cost of the fuel or fluids delivered to you. You pay for those at delivery.3Liberty Mutual Group. Customer Disclaimer
- Trip interruption expenses. Lodging, meals, and rental cars while you’re stranded are not included.1SmartFinancial. Liberty Mutual Roadside Assistance
- Flat tire service when there’s no spare. The technician mounts your inflated spare; without one, there’s nothing to install.3Liberty Mutual Group. Customer Disclaimer
Insurer-based roadside programs also tend to follow the insured vehicle rather than the driver. That means the coverage may not apply when you’re behind the wheel of someone else’s car.5United Policyholders. Roadside Assistance May Affect Auto Insurance Rates Availability also varies by state; as of mid-2025, California and Hawaii were noted as states where Liberty Mutual does not list car insurance, which carries through to the roadside add-on.1SmartFinancial. How To Request Help
Two options, both available around the clock: call 800-426-9898 or open the Liberty Mutual mobile app and request service from there.1SmartFinancial. Will Using It Raise Your Rates
Worth knowing before you dial. Because Liberty Mutual pays the service provider on your behalf, each roadside request is recorded as a claim, and insurers use claim history as one input into pricing.6The Zebra. Rate Increase Towing Claim One or two calls in a year is unlikely to move your premium on its own, but a cluster of calls in a short period can. Whether an insurer is permitted to raise rates based on this kind of claim depends on the state. Roadside usage can also be reported to data aggregators such as ChoicePoint, which other insurers consult during underwriting.5United Policyholders. Roadside Assistance May Affect Auto Insurance Rates
