To get your Walgreens W-2 as a former employee, start with the company’s employee self-service portal if your login still works. If it doesn’t, Walgreens directs former staff to a third-party payroll service that archives W-2s from prior years, and Walgreens HR or payroll can point you to the right site and give you the employer code some of these services require at registration. Employers must furnish W-2 forms by January 31, so the form should be available in late January or the first days of February.1eCFR. 26 CFR 31.6051-1 – Statements for Employees
If You Still Have Portal Access
Current employees and recently separated employees use People Central through the WBA Worldwide portal. Log in and go to the payroll or tax statements section. If you opted into electronic delivery at any point, your W-2 is posted as a downloadable PDF as soon as the company publishes it, usually mid-to-late January, before paper copies are mailed.
First-time users generally need their employee ID and a partial Social Security number to register. Keep those credentials handy through tax season, because unlocking an account eats days you may not have.
If Your Login No Longer Works
Portal access after separation is inconsistent. Some former employees keep it for a period, others lose it immediately. When the login fails, the fallback is the third-party payroll archive Walgreens uses to host W-2s. These services verify identity with your former employee ID and Social Security number, and some ask for a company-specific employer code during registration.
If you don’t know which service to use, don’t have your employee ID, or can’t get past identity verification, call Walgreens HR or payroll directly. They can confirm where your forms are hosted and walk you through access. The archive typically stores several prior years of W-2s in one place, so you can pull older forms at the same time.
Paper Copies and Address Changes
If you never consented to electronic delivery, Walgreens mails a paper W-2 to the last address on file. The employer’s obligation is met when the form is properly addressed and mailed by January 31, so a form put in the mail on the deadline may arrive several days later.2Internal Revenue Service. General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2026)
If you moved after leaving, update your address with payroll as soon as possible. A form mailed to an old address is still considered properly furnished, so the responsibility to keep the address current is yours. For a lost or damaged paper copy, request a duplicate from payroll and expect seven to ten business days for a replacement.
If Your W-2 Never Arrives
Once you’ve contacted Walgreens and checked every portal and archive without success, the IRS has a specific sequence it expects you to follow.
Call the IRS After February
If Walgreens hasn’t produced your W-2 by the end of February, call the IRS at 800-829-1040. The IRS will send Walgreens a letter requesting the form and mail you Form 4852, a substitute W-2 you can use if the real one still doesn’t come.3Internal Revenue Service. If You Don’t Get a W-2 or Your W-2 Is Wrong
File With Form 4852 If April Is Close
When the April 15 deadline is approaching and the W-2 hasn’t arrived, file your return with Form 4852 attached. Estimate your wages and withholdings from your final pay stub of the year, using year-to-date figures rather than guesses.4Internal Revenue Service. W-2 – Additional, Incorrect, Lost, Non-Receipt, Omitted The form asks you to describe what you did to try to get the missing W-2. Refunds tied to a 4852 usually take longer while the IRS verifies your numbers.
If the actual W-2 later arrives and the numbers don’t match what you filed, you have to amend using Form 1040-X.4Internal Revenue Service. W-2 – Additional, Incorrect, Lost, Non-Receipt, Omitted
Pull a Wage and Income Transcript
The IRS also holds the W-2 data your employer reported to the Social Security Administration, and you can request it as a Wage and Income Transcript through the IRS Get Transcript tool or by mailing Form 4506-T.5Internal Revenue Service. Topic No. 159, How to Get a Wage and Income Transcript Current-year transcripts often aren’t available until well into the filing season, because the IRS has to finish processing what employers submitted. Prior-year data is available going back ten years, which makes this a good option for older W-2s you can’t otherwise recover.
File an Extension If You’d Rather Wait
If you’d prefer to wait for the real W-2 than file with estimates, submit Form 4868 for an automatic six-month extension.6Internal Revenue Service. About Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File An extension postpones the filing deadline, not the payment deadline. If you expect to owe, estimate the amount and pay it with the extension request to avoid interest and penalties.
If the Form Has an Error
When your W-2 arrives, check your name, Social Security number, and income figures before doing anything else. If something is wrong, contact Walgreens payroll or HR right away. Once the mistake is confirmed, the company issues a corrected Form W-2c.7Internal Revenue Service. About Form W-2 C, Corrected Wage and Tax Statements There’s no fixed deadline for employers to issue corrections beyond “as soon as possible,” so turnaround depends on how quickly payroll acts.
If Walgreens hasn’t corrected the form by the end of February, call the IRS at 800-829-1040 or visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center for help.3Internal Revenue Service. If You Don’t Get a W-2 or Your W-2 Is Wrong If you already filed your return before the corrected form came in, file Form 1040-X and attach the W-2c.8Internal Revenue Service. File an Amended Return
