UW Credit Union Direct Deposit Form: Routing Numbers, Payroll Submission, Timing

To set up payroll deposits at UW Credit Union, you fill out your employer’s direct deposit authorization form using the credit union’s routing number, 275979076, and your personal account number, then attach a Direct Deposit Letter generated from Web Branch or the mobile app as verification.1UW Credit Union. Member Guide to Finding Your Account and Routing Number The form itself comes from your employer, not from the credit union. Setup takes a few minutes; the first electronic deposit usually lands one to two pay cycles later.

Find Your Routing and Account Numbers First

Two numbers go on every direct deposit form. The routing number is the same for every UW Credit Union member: 275979076.2UW Credit Union. Contact Us Your account number is unique to you and tells your employer which checking or savings account to send money to.

In digital banking, click “All Accounts,” select the account you want deposits sent to, then click “Account Details” to see the full number.1UW Credit Union. Member Guide to Finding Your Account and Routing Number If you have a checkbook, the account number is printed along the bottom of each check, with the routing number to its left and the check number to its right. Write both numbers down before you start the form. A single transposed digit is the most common reason a first deposit fails.

Get a Direct Deposit Letter or Voided Check

Most employers want written verification that the account you listed actually exists in your name. UW Credit Union produces this document on demand. Log in to Web Branch or open the mobile app, find the Direct Deposit Letter tool under Services, select the account you want deposits routed to, and the system generates a downloadable PDF on credit union letterhead showing your name, account number, routing number, and account type.3UW Credit Union. Fund Your Account

Many UW Credit Union accounts don’t come with physical checks, so the letter is often the simplest option. If your employer specifically asks for a voided check and you have a checkbook, write “VOID” in large letters across the front of a blank check and submit that instead. Either document works as verification.

Fill Out the Employer’s Authorization Form

Your employer provides the authorization form. Formats vary, but the fields are nearly identical across companies:

  • Your legal name as it appears on payroll records.
  • Bank name: UW Credit Union.
  • Routing number: 275979076.
  • Account number: your individual number from digital banking or the bottom of a check.
  • Account type: check the box for checking or savings to match the account you chose.
  • Deposit amount: select “Full Net Amount” to send your whole paycheck to one account, or enter a specific dollar amount to split your pay.
  • Signature and date, which authorize your employer to initiate electronic transfers.

Print the routing and account numbers clearly. Payroll staff key these in by hand, and a smudged or ambiguous digit is the usual culprit when a first deposit fails. Attach your Direct Deposit Letter or voided check before you turn the form in; most payroll departments won’t process the request without one.1UW Credit Union. Splitting Pay Between Two Accounts

If your employer’s payroll system supports it, you can send part of each paycheck to one account and the rest to another. Most systems split by either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of net pay. Fill out a separate line (or a second form) for each destination account, providing the routing number, account number, and account type for each.

A standard setup designates one account as the “remainder” that receives whatever is left after fixed-amount allocations are pulled out. If the form asks you to rank accounts in priority order, put fixed-amount accounts first and the remainder account last. Your savings target then gets funded before spending money reaches your checking account.

Submit the Form to Payroll, Not the Credit Union

The completed form goes to your employer’s payroll or HR department. UW Credit Union’s role is passive; the credit union receives incoming ACH transfers but doesn’t initiate the setup on the employer side. Many workplaces now accept the form through an internal employee portal where you upload a scan or photo. If paperwork is still handled on paper, hand the form directly to payroll and keep a copy for your records.

One boundary to keep in mind: federal law prohibits your employer from forcing you to open an account at a specific bank as a condition of employment.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693k – Compulsory Use of Electronic Fund Transfers Your employer can require direct deposit as the payment method in many states, but cannot dictate which financial institution receives it. If anyone tells you the company “only does direct deposit to Bank X,” that violates the Electronic Fund Transfer Act.

How Long Before the First Deposit Lands

Plan on one to two full pay cycles between submitting the form and seeing your first electronic deposit. The delay comes from a verification step called a pre-notification, or prenote. Your employer’s payroll system sends a zero-dollar test transaction through the ACH network to confirm the routing and account numbers are valid. NACHA rules require a three-business-day waiting period after the prenote before live transactions can begin, and that layered onto your employer’s payroll calendar usually adds at least one more paper check or pay stub cycle.

During the transition, watch both your old payment method and your UW Credit Union account. If the prenote fails because of a typo, payroll should notify you, but that doesn’t always happen quickly. Check your account around your next expected pay date. If the deposit isn’t there, call payroll first, then UW Credit Union member services.

If a Deposit Is Late, Missing, or in the Wrong Account

Start with payroll to confirm the ACH transfer went out with the correct account details. If payroll says everything looks right on their end, contact UW Credit Union member services to trace the incoming transfer. Most deposit errors trace back to a data-entry mistake on the authorization form, and submitting a corrected form fixes the problem for the next pay cycle.

Under federal Regulation E, you have 60 days from the date the credit union sends the account statement showing the error to report it and trigger the institution’s formal investigation.5eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors After that window, the credit union is no longer required to investigate. In practice, don’t come close to 60 days. The sooner you flag a missing or misdirected deposit, the easier it is to recover.
