US Visa Premium Delivery: How It Works, Costs, and Tracking

US visa premium delivery is a paid courier service that ships your passport from the US Embassy or Consulate to a home or office address after your visa interview, so you don’t have to collect it in person. You select it while booking your interview, pay a fee separate from the visa application fee, and track the shipment through the courier and the USTravelDocs portal. Fees generally run from about $15 to $75 depending on the country and whether delivery is domestic or international.

Don’t Confuse This With USCIS Premium Processing

These are two different services with similar names, and mixing them up is expensive. Premium delivery is the courier that returns your passport after a consular interview. USCIS Premium Processing is a separate service filed on Form I-907 that speeds up adjudication of certain employer-sponsored petitions such as H-1B and L-1. As of March 1, 2026, Premium Processing costs between $1,780 and $2,965 depending on the classification.1USCIS. How to Select Premium Delivery

You choose your delivery method while scheduling your visa interview through the contractor’s online portal. Most embassies use CGI Federal (through ustraveldocs.com) or VFS Global, and a few use a local postal service; the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago, for example, uses the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation.2U.S. Embassy in Trinidad & Tobago. TTPOST is the New Provider for U.S. Visa Courier Services The system asks you to pick between standard pickup and premium delivery (some posts also offer premium pickup locations), then collects your full delivery address, phone number, and email. Double-check that information before you submit. It goes straight to the courier.

Availability isn’t identical everywhere. Some locations only offer standard pickup. Confirm what’s available on the US Embassy website for the country where you’re applying, or the linked contractor portal.

If you forgot to add premium delivery, you can usually still select it up until midnight the day before your interview. After that cutoff, switching may not be possible, and you’d need to collect the passport in person.

Changing Your Delivery Address After the Interview

If you move or spot a wrong address after the interview, log into your USTravelDocs account and update it right away. Some embassies also require a separate inquiry form with a copy of your passport to verify your identity before they’ll redirect the shipment. The earlier you make the change, the better the chance of catching the package before it ships.

What It Costs

The delivery fee is separate from the Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee, which only covers application processing.3U.S. Department of State. Fees for Visa Services Premium delivery costs vary by country, vendor, and service level. Domestic courier delivery generally runs $15 to $40. International shipping from an embassy to another country can be $75 or more.

The fee is non-refundable, even if your visa is refused, because the passport still has to come back to you either way. Payment methods differ by location and can include credit or debit card online, bank transfer, or in some regions cash on delivery. The contractor’s site for your country shows the exact fee and accepted payment methods before you commit.

Tracking Your Passport

After your interview, the consular section processes the application and returns your passport with the visa inside if approved, or without one if refused.4Travel.State.Gov. Step 12 – After the Interview Once the embassy hands the passport to the courier, you should get an email or text with tracking details. You can watch the shipment two ways:

  • On the courier’s own website (FedEx, DHL, or the local postal service, depending on your country), using the tracking number from your notification.
  • On the USTravelDocs portal, by entering your passport number on the tracking page. You can also email passportstatus@ustraveldocs.com with your passport number or UID for a status update.

Timelines vary. Processing after the interview typically takes three to five business days, plus a few more days for delivery. Some posts are faster. If tracking shows no movement for a long stretch, contact the contractor’s service center for your country before assuming the courier lost it. Embassies sometimes hold passports for additional administrative processing, and a quiet tracking page doesn’t always mean a shipping problem.

If You Can’t Sign for the Passport

Delivery requires a signature, so someone must be at the address. If no one is home, most couriers will hold the package at a nearby service point for a limited number of days before returning it to the embassy.

If you can’t be there yourself, you can authorize a family member or other representative to receive it. You’ll need a signed authorization letter that includes your name as it appears in your passport, your passport number, the authorized person’s full name and signature, and your own signature granting permission.5USTravelDocs. Authorization Letter The authorized person must show a government-issued photo ID when they collect the package. Once they sign for it, the courier’s responsibility ends, so pick someone you trust and ask them to check the visa page for any printing errors as soon as they open the envelope.

If Your Passport Is Lost in Transit

A lost passport is stressful, but there is a process. Start by checking the Online Passport Status System to confirm the passport was mailed and to look for a tracking number. If more than two weeks have passed since it was mailed, call the Department of State at 1-877-487-2778 (or 1-888-874-7793 for TTY).6U.S. Department of State. Report Your Passport Lost or Stolen

The Department of State will direct you to complete Form DS-86, a sworn statement that you did not receive your passport. You must file it within 120 days of the passport’s issue date.
