UnitedHCMedicare Charge: What It Pays For and How to Dispute It

A charge labeled “UNITEDHCMEDICARE” on your bank or credit card statement is an automatic premium payment for a UnitedHealthcare Medicare plan. It almost always means someone on the account enrolled in a Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap), or Medicare prescription drug plan through UnitedHealthcare and set up autopay or an electronic funds transfer during enrollment. The UnitedHCMedicare charge covers the monthly plan premium itself, not copays for doctor visits or hospital stays, which the plan bills separately.

What the Charge Actually Pays For

UnitedHealthcare is the largest Medicare Advantage insurer in the United States, and “UNITEDHCMEDICARE” is the billing descriptor it uses when it pulls a monthly premium from a bank account or card.

The amount depends on the plan. Roughly half of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage plans carry a $0 premium, but for plans that do charge a monthly fee, the average is about $33.90 per month as of 2026.1NerdWallet. UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage Review Medicare Supplement premiums tend to run higher and vary by plan letter and location.

One thing the UnitedHCMedicare charge is not: your Part B premium. That amount — $202.90 per month in 2026, up from $185 in 2025 — is owed to the federal government and is usually deducted from Social Security rather than charged by UnitedHealthcare.2CMS. 2026 Medicare Parts B Premiums and Deductibles

Why the Amount May Look Wrong or Unfamiliar

A few things commonly throw people off. During enrollment, members sometimes authorize automatic payments without fully registering it, especially when a broker or agent walks them through the paperwork. The descriptor itself can also look foreign because “UNITEDHCMEDICARE” doesn’t match the plan name on the member ID card.

Price changes are another cause. For 2026, average monthly premiums across the general-enrollment Medicare Advantage population rose by roughly 22% compared with 2025. A plan that charged $15 last year may now pull a noticeably higher amount. Insurers including UnitedHealthcare have also raised deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums and trimmed benefits such as over-the-counter wellness allowances for 2026.3Healthcare Dive. How To Stop or Change Automatic Payments

UnitedHealthcare Medicare members can manage autopay through the member portal at myUHCMedicare.com. From there you can update the payment method on file, switch between a checking account, credit card, or debit card, or cancel autopay entirely.7UnitedHealthcare. How To Pay Your Premium Members who pay by electronic funds transfer can submit a new EFT form to change the linked bank account.

One rule to know: UnitedHealthcare does not allow a premium to be split across multiple payment methods. A single method has to cover the full monthly amount.7UnitedHealthcare. How To Pay Your Premium If you cancel autopay and move to manual billing, you’ll receive a paper bill each month and can pay by check or through the QuickPay guest portal at member.uhc.com/medicare/guestpay, which only requires a member ID number and date of birth.

If your premium is being pulled from a Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefit check, changing that arrangement requires a separate form. UnitedHealthcare also cautions that members who receive premium help from a former employer, a union, or a State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program and also elect Social Security deduction may overpay, because both sources can end up covering part of the premium. In that situation, the plan is responsible for issuing a refund, though delays can happen.7UnitedHealthcare. How To Pay Your Premium

If You Never Enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare Plan

If the UnitedHCMedicare charge shows up on the statement of someone who never signed up for a UnitedHealthcare Medicare plan, treat it as possible unauthorized enrollment. Deceptive marketing by third-party brokers has been documented in Medicare Advantage, and an Urban Institute report found that beneficiaries have been enrolled in plans without their consent, sometimes through letters designed to look like official CMS communications.8Urban Institute. Which Type of Plan the Charge Is Tied To

Knowing which kind of UnitedHealthcare Medicare plan is generating the payment helps explain both the amount and the timing.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans replace Original Medicare. The insurer manages hospital, medical, and usually prescription drug coverage under one plan. Premiums can be as low as $0, though you still owe the Part B premium to the government. The plan charges copays and coinsurance when you receive care, and there is an annual out-of-pocket maximum; across UnitedHealthcare plans the average is roughly $6,492.1NerdWallet. UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage Review

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans work alongside Original Medicare rather than replacing it. Providers bill Medicare first, and the Medigap plan then picks up some or all of the leftover deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. Premiums tend to be higher because the plan absorbs more of the out-of-pocket costs. Plans G and F, for example, can cover close to 100% of what Original Medicare doesn’t pay.14UnitedHealthcare. Medicare Supplement Costs A charge labeled “UNITEDHCMEDICARE” could come from either type of plan, so confirming the plan name in the member portal or on the ID card is the quickest way to understand what you’re being billed for.
