Form 1 asks for your full legal name, date of birth, permanent address, parents’ full names, and any previous names. TAJ cross-checks this against civil registries to prevent duplicate numbers, so fill it in carefully.
Businesses
Businesses, partnerships, charities, and non-profits each get their own TRN, separate from the personal TRN of any owner or director.4OECD. Jamaica – Information on Tax Identification Numbers Along with the business registration form, you generally need documentation proving the entity’s legal existence: articles of incorporation, a partnership agreement, or a trade name registration certificate. The form also asks for the business name and address, the date the business started or was acquired, the accounting year start date, and the nature of the business. If the business has branches, expect to file a separate supplementary form for each one.

A legal name change after marriage or a deed poll should be reported to TAJ with certified copies of the supporting documents. Update your address promptly too, so official notices and any refund checks reach you.
What You’ll Use the TRN For
Once issued, your TRN follows you through most financial and government transactions in Jamaica. TAJ uses it to track every tax type: income tax, payroll and withholding taxes, General Consumption Tax, Special Consumption Tax, transfer tax, and stamp duty. Employers need it to report your wages and deduct payroll taxes. Banks require it to open an account, apply for a loan, or set up a line of credit. It also appears on government-issued documents such as your driver’s licence and some employee IDs, and it’s required for property purchases, motor vehicle transfers, and professional licensing.4OECD.
