A charge labeled “strava.com” on your credit card is almost always an auto-renewing subscription to Strava, the fitness-tracking app used by runners and cyclists. It shows up unexpectedly most often because a 30-day free trial converted to a paid plan, an annual subscription renewed on its anniversary, or a past cancellation was made in the wrong place. To stop future charges, cancel through the same platform where you originally signed up (Strava’s website, Apple, or Google). To get your money back, the window depends on where you bought it: 14 days if purchased on strava.com, and roughly 48 hours if purchased through the App Store or Google Play.
What the Charge Is and How Much to Expect
Strava’s premium subscription is the source of nearly all of these charges. The current prices, set in January 2023, are:

Why the Charge Appeared When You Weren’t Expecting It
Three patterns account for most surprise charges.
A free trial converted to a paid plan. Strava’s 30-day trial requires a payment method up front. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the full subscription fee is billed automatically. Strava says it sends a reminder two days before the trial expires,1Strava. An annual plan renewed on schedule. Once you subscribe, the plan renews automatically at the start of every billing period until you cancel.4Strava. Strava Terms of Service An annual charge can arrive a full year after you last thought about the app.
You canceled in the wrong place. You have to cancel through the same platform where you originally subscribed. If you signed up through the Apple App Store, you can’t cancel on Strava’s website; you have to use Apple’s subscription settings. The same applies to Google Play.5Strava Support. How to Check and Cancel Your Subscription
Before doing anything else, confirm the subscription is active and identify where it was bought. The renewal page will show both.

To keep the next charge from posting, cancel at least 24 hours before the listed renewal date.4Strava. How to Get a Refund
The refund path depends on where the subscription was purchased.
Purchased on strava.com. Strava’s policy allows a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Submit the request through Strava’s support team. After 14 days, Strava considers the subscription non-refundable.5Strava Support. Purchased through Apple or Google. Strava does not handle these refunds; you have to request one directly from Apple or Google. Both platforms generally require the request within 48 hours of the charge, and approval is at their discretion. Strava’s support team cannot issue refunds, modify charges, or escalate requests on Apple’s behalf. If the refund is denied. If the charge was genuinely unauthorized or the result of a billing error, you can dispute it with your bank or credit card issuer through a chargeback, which is a standard consumer right for credit card holders under federal law. Strava holds an F rating with the Better Business Bureau, with the BBB noting that the company has failed to respond to all ten complaints filed against it,7Better Business Bureau. Consumer Protection Rules That Back You Up
Two sets of rules govern how subscription billing has to work.
The Federal Trade Commission finalized its “click-to-cancel” rule in October 2024, updating the 1973 Negative Option Rule.8Federal Trade Commission. FTC Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule The rule requires that canceling a subscription be as easy as signing up, that sellers clearly disclose all material terms before collecting billing information, that they obtain express informed consent to automatic billing, and that they provide a cancellation method through the same channel used for enrollment. Companies cannot require consumers to speak to a live representative to cancel if signing up didn’t require one. California, where Strava is based, strengthened its Automatic Renewal Law through AB 2863, with amendments taking effect July 1, 2025. Businesses must send annual reminders about active subscriptions, provide 7 to 30 days’ notice before any fee change, and offer online cancellation through a prominently placed link or button for services started online. For free trials longer than 31 days, notice must go out between 3 and 21 days before the trial converts to a paid plan, and businesses must retain proof of the consumer’s express affirmative consent for at least three years.10California Legislature.
