Supplemental Security Income deposits arrive on the first of each month, and when the first falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the Social Security Administration moves the payment to the last business day before it.1eCFR. 20 CFR 416.502 – Manner of Payment That single rule sets every SSI pay date on the 2026 calendar, and it explains why some months carry two deposits while others carry none.
2026 SSI Payment Calendar
Each date below is the day the payment for that month is deposited. The payment still belongs to the month it’s named for, even when it lands a day or two earlier.
- January 2026 payment: Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (January 1 is New Year’s Day)
- February 2026 payment: Friday, January 30 (February 1 is a Sunday)
- March 2026 payment: Friday, February 27 (March 1 is a Sunday)
- April 2026 payment: Wednesday, April 1
- May 2026 payment: Friday, May 1
- June 2026 payment: Monday, June 1
- July 2026 payment: Wednesday, July 1
- August 2026 payment: Friday, July 31 (August 1 is a Saturday)
- September 2026 payment: Tuesday, September 1
- October 2026 payment: Thursday, October 1
- November 2026 payment: Friday, October 30 (November 1 is a Sunday)
- December 2026 payment: Tuesday, December 1
- January 2027 payment: Thursday, December 31, 2026 (January 1 is New Year’s Day)
Months With Two Deposits and Months With None
Because payments slide backward when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, five calendar months in 2026 receive two SSI deposits:
- January: the February payment arrives January 30
- February: the March payment arrives February 27
- July: the July 1 payment plus the August payment on July 31
- October: the October 1 payment plus the November payment on October 30
- December: the December 1 payment plus the January 2027 payment on December 31
The mirror image matters more. March, August, and November 2026 have no SSI deposit at all, because you already received those months’ money at the end of the prior month. Treating the second deposit as extra income is the mistake that leads to an empty account four weeks later. Set the early deposit aside and spend it on its own month, and the shifted schedule stops being a problem.1eCFR. 20 CFR 416.502 – Manner of Payment
Pay Dates for Concurrent SSI and Social Security
If you receive both SSI and a Social Security benefit (retirement or disability), the SSA calls that concurrent eligibility, and your two payments arrive on separate dates. The SSI portion follows the first-of-the-month schedule above. The Social Security portion arrives on the third.2Social Security Administration. Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2026
The same weekend-and-holiday shift applies to the third.3Social Security Administration. Social Security Handbook 121 – Payment Dates In 2026, that moves the Social Security payment to Friday, January 2 (the third is a Saturday), Friday, May 1 (the third is a Sunday), and Friday, October 2 (the third is a Saturday). In May, both your SSI and Social Security deposits land on the same day, May 1.
The third-of-the-month schedule applies only to concurrent recipients. If you draw Social Security without SSI, your payment date runs on a birth-date schedule that isn’t covered here.
Your First Payment After Approval
New applicants don’t step onto the regular calendar right away. Your first deposit covers the first full month after your application or eligibility date, whichever is later.4Social Security Administration. What You Need to Know When You Get Supplemental Security Income If you applied in March, your first payment is the April benefit, deposited on April 1 (or the last business day before it). Processing delays don’t push the eligibility date, so back payments for the months between when you became eligible and when the SSA approved you are common.
If waiting is causing a genuine emergency, ask about a one-time emergency advance. To qualify, you must lack money for food, shelter, or medical care, and the advance is limited to the lesser of the federal benefit rate, the total owed to you, or the amount you need.5Social Security Administration. Understanding Supplemental Security Income Expedited Payments The SSA recovers it from later payments, and you can only receive one.
How Much and How It Arrives
The maximum federal SSI benefit in 2026 is $994 per month for an individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple after a 2.8 percent cost-of-living adjustment.6Social Security Administration. SSI Federal Payment Amounts for 2026 Most recipients receive less because countable income is subtracted from the federal maximum. Many states add a supplement on top. When the SSA administers the state supplement, it arrives with your federal deposit; when the state runs its own payment, it arrives on the state’s own schedule.
Payments come by direct deposit to a bank account or by Direct Express prepaid debit card. Whichever method you use, the deposit posts on the pay dates above.
If Your SSI Payment Doesn’t Arrive
Wait three business days past the scheduled date before contacting the SSA. The agency asks for that window to allow for processing and delivery.2Social Security Administration. Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2026 During those three days, check your bank or Direct Express activity in case the credit posted under a transaction label you didn’t recognize.
Still nothing after three business days? Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), visit a local Social Security office, or sign in to your my Social Security account at ssa.gov to review your payment history and confirm your direct deposit details.7Social Security Administration. How Do I Report a Missing Payment A representative can trace the payment and issue a replacement deposit if the original is confirmed missing, which itself takes several business days.
