The 2026 SSDI payment calendar puts most recipients on one of three Wednesdays each month, chosen by the day you were born. Payments run from January through December on a fixed rotation, with a handful of dates shifted earlier because of weekends or a federal holiday. If you’re already collecting benefits, you can find your exact deposit dates for the year below.
Which Wednesday Is Yours
The Social Security Administration sorts SSDI recipients into three groups by birth day. Only the day of the month matters; the year and month don’t.1Social Security Administration. 20 CFR 404.1807 – Monthly Payment Day
- Born 1st–10th: second Wednesday of the month.
- Born 11th–20th: third Wednesday of the month.
- Born 21st–31st: fourth Wednesday of the month.
Your group stays the same every year, so once you know which Wednesday is yours, you can read straight down that column in the table below.

Who Gets Paid on the 3rd Instead
Three groups skip the Wednesday rotation and get their SSDI on the 3rd of each month:
- Anyone who was already receiving Social Security before May 1997 stays on the original 3rd-of-the-month schedule.2Social Security Administration. Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2026
- If you receive both SSDI and SSI, your SSDI arrives on the 3rd and your SSI arrives on the 1st, so the two deposits stay separate.2Social Security Administration. Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2026
- If you live outside the United States, you’re also paid on the 3rd.3Social Security Administration. Social Security Handbook 121 – Payment Dates
Any of these conditions overrides the birthday rule. Your birth date doesn’t put you back on a Wednesday.
Weekend and Holiday Shifts in 2026
When a scheduled payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the SSA moves the payment to the last business day before that date. Payments never shift forward, only backward.4Social Security Administration. 42 USC 909 – Delivery of Benefit Checks
In 2026, that produces four adjustments. The 3rd of January, May, and October falls on a weekend, so those payments go out the preceding Friday: January 2, May 1, and October 2. In November, the second Wednesday lands on Veterans Day, which moves that group’s payment to Tuesday, November 10.
The federal government releases the money on the adjusted date, but when it appears in your account depends on your bank. Some institutions post federal deposits the moment they arrive; others hold them until the original date. If timing matters for a bill, ask your bank how it handles government transfers.
The 2026 COLA
SSDI benefits went up 2.8 percent for 2026 through the annual cost-of-living adjustment. The higher amount first showed up in January 2026 payments. Recipients who also get SSI saw the increased SSI amount starting with the December 31, 2025 payment.5Social Security Administration. 2026 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Fact Sheet
The increase is applied automatically. You don’t have to file anything or contact the SSA. Your updated benefit amount should already appear when you sign in to your My Social Security account.
If a Payment Doesn’t Arrive
Check with your bank first. The SSA releases the deposit on the scheduled date, but your bank decides when it posts. A delay of a few hours is normal.
If the payment still hasn’t landed after three business days, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). If you think the payment was stolen or your account was compromised, call right away instead of waiting.6Social Security Administration. How Do I Report a Missing Payment
Common reasons for a missed deposit include a recent address or bank change that hasn’t fully processed, a name mismatch between your SSA records and your bank account, or an overpayment offset where the SSA is withholding part of your benefit to recover a prior overpayment. The SSA is supposed to send written notice before any offset starts, though those letters sometimes arrive after the withholding has already happened.
