A “Spectrum 855-707” line on your bank or credit card statement is a payment to Charter Communications, the parent company of Spectrum internet, cable TV, and mobile service. The number is a truncated form of 855-707-7328, a Spectrum customer service line printed on the company’s billing documents.1Spectrum. Spectrum Voice Residential Services Price Guide Most of the time the entry is your recurring autopay for service you already have. Sometimes it’s a one-time fee for installation, equipment, or a new mobile line. And occasionally it’s a charge you genuinely don’t recognize, which is a different problem with a different fix.
Why the Descriptor Looks Cryptic
Banks compress merchant information into a short text field, so what could read as “Spectrum Monthly Bill” comes through as “Spectrum 855-707” or “Charter Services 855-707-7328 MO.” Spectrum has also switched between “Spectrum” and “Charter Services” in its billing descriptor at various points. Same company, same charge. For account and billing questions, Spectrum’s dedicated billing line is 833-949-0036, staffed around the clock.2Spectrum. Contact Spectrum Customer Service
Why the Amount May Not Match What You Expected
Your statement shows one number, but that number rolls together everything on your account. The advertised price of a plan is almost never the amount that hits your card.
The most common surprise is a promotional rate expiring. Introductory pricing on internet plans covers the first year; when it rolls off, the bill jumps without any change to your service. Bundled TV and mobile add to the same charge. Spectrum Mobile lines are billed alongside internet, and a new line carries a one-time $20 activation fee, so the first statement after adding one will run higher than the ongoing rate.3Spectrum. Equipment fees are another common culprit. Spectrum includes a standard WiFi router at no extra charge when you bundle internet with mobile or TV, or when you subscribe to the Gig tier or above.4Spectrum. WiFi Solutions for Every Home Without a qualifying bundle, Advanced WiFi runs $10 per month, Invincible WiFi $20 per month, and each WiFi extender adds $5 per month. Professional installation or a reconnection service call costs $65, and if that lands on the same payment method as your monthly bill, the first statement can look nothing like what you were quoted.5Spectrum. Cable TV customers also pay a Broadcast TV Surcharge that varies by market, plus local franchise fees that federal law caps at 5 percent of the cable operator’s gross revenue from cable services in the franchise area.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. United States Code Title 47 Section 542 State and local taxes stack on top. None of it appears as a separate line on your bank statement; it all rolls into the single Spectrum entry.
Charges After You Canceled
A Spectrum charge landing after you canceled service is unnerving but usually has a plain explanation. Spectrum does not prorate the final month. Canceling on the second day of your billing period still leaves you responsible for that entire cycle.7Spectrum. Spectrum Residential General Terms and Conditions of Service
Unreturned equipment triggers a separate round of charges that may not post until weeks after disconnection: $90 for an unreturned modem, $90 for an unreturned router, and $60 for each unreturned WiFi extender.5Spectrum. Residential Broadband Services and Pricing Drop equipment at a Spectrum store as soon as you cancel, and keep the receipt. Disputes over whether gear was returned are common, and a dated receipt ends them.
How to Tell If the Charge Is Really Yours
Log in at spectrum.net and open your latest statement. If the total there matches the amount on your bank record, the charge is legitimate no matter how odd the descriptor looks.
If you have never had Spectrum service, treat the charge as potential fraud. Call your bank, dispute the transaction, and ask for a new card number. Before you do, check with anyone in your household who shares the payment method — a spouse, parent, or roommate signing up on their own is one of the most common explanations for a charge that looks unauthorized.
How to Dispute the Charge
Start with Spectrum. Call 833-949-0036 or use the chat on spectrum.com with your account number and the specific dollar amount ready.2Spectrum. Contact Spectrum Customer Service Duplicate charges, fees for equipment you already returned, and services you never ordered are usually fixed in one call, with a credit applied to your next statement. Spectrum’s own terms require you to raise billing discrepancies within 60 days of the billing date, so don’t let it sit.
If Spectrum will not resolve the problem, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a separate path through your credit card issuer. You have 60 days from the date the statement containing the error was sent to send a written dispute to the card issuer.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. United States Code Title 15 Section 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors The letter needs your name and account number, the dollar amount you believe is wrong, and the reason it’s wrong. Send it to the billing disputes address your issuer designates, not the general payment address. The issuer must acknowledge your notice within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles or 90 days, whichever is shorter. It cannot report the disputed amount as delinquent or send it to collections while the investigation is open. This route works only for credit card charges; debit card protections are governed by different rules.
