A SEGPAYEU charge on your credit card is a payment processed by Segpay’s European division, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, on behalf of a website you (or someone with your card) bought from. Segpay is a third-party payment processor, so its name appears on your statement instead of the merchant’s. That’s why the charge looks unfamiliar. You can trace it back to the actual seller, cancel any recurring subscription, request a refund, or dispute it as unauthorized.
The “EU” tag means the transaction ran through Segpay’s Ireland operation rather than its U.S. arm, which typically posts as “SEGPAY” without the suffix. Segpay commonly handles billing for adult entertainment sites, online dating, and subscription content platforms, though it also processes payments for gaming, digital software, and general e-commerce.
Find Out Which Merchant Charged You
Start at Segpay’s consumer portal, cs.segpay.com. The lookup tool asks for at least two of the following: your credit card number, a purchase ID, a PayPal order or invoice ID, an IBAN, or the email address you used at signup. Pull up your statement so you can match the date to whatever the search returns.
When the tool locates the transaction, it shows the merchant name or website tied to the charge. That’s the business that actually billed you. The portal does not accept a dollar amount as a search field, so if you don’t have a purchase ID and didn’t pay through PayPal, you’ll need the card number plus the signup email.
If the lookup fails, Segpay’s U.S. support line is 1-866-450-4000, and live chat runs through the same portal. Have the first six and last four digits of the card ready, along with any purchase ID or email tied to the account.1Segpay. How to Cancel Your Secure Segpay Payment Account
Why the Amount May Be Higher Than You Expected
Because Segpay EU is based in Ireland, your card issuer may treat the charge as an international transaction even when you bought from a U.S. computer. Most basic Visa and Mastercard products from U.S. banks add a foreign transaction fee of about 3%, and the card networks add a currency conversion markup of roughly 1% on top. Travel rewards and premium cards often waive the foreign transaction fee.
If the posted amount is slightly above what you agreed to pay, that gap is likely the fee, not an overcharge. On a recurring subscription, the fee applies every billing cycle.
Cancel a Recurring Subscription
If the charge is a subscription you want to stop, the fastest route is the self-service portal at cs.segpay.com after you’ve looked up the purchase. You can also cancel by calling U.S. support or emailing [email protected].1Segpay. How to Cancel Your Secure Segpay Payment Account
Canceling through Segpay stops future billing from the processor. Some merchants also run their own account pages where you can cancel directly. Watch for a confirmation email and check your next statement to make sure no additional charge posts. Canceling stops future charges but does not automatically refund past ones.
Request a Refund
To get money back on a charge that already posted, submit a support ticket through the Segpay portal or contact support by phone or email. You’ll need to explain the reason: billing error, duplicate charge, or dissatisfaction with the service. Once approved, credit card refunds generally take five to 14 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your issuer.2CNBC. How Do Credit Card Refunds Work?
Not every refund gets approved. If the merchant denies it or Segpay doesn’t respond, your bank dispute rights are still available.
Dispute an Unauthorized Credit Card Charge
If you didn’t authorize the charge at all, federal law puts the risk on the card issuer, not you. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your maximum liability for unauthorized credit card charges is $50, and many issuers waive that as policy.3Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1643 – Liability of Holder of Credit Card
To preserve your dispute rights, send your card issuer a written notice of the billing error within 60 days of the statement date on which the charge appeared. A phone call alone doesn’t trigger the legal protections. The notice should include your name, account number, the disputed amount, and why you believe the charge is an error. The issuer must acknowledge the notice within 30 days and resolve the dispute within two billing cycles, capped at 90 days.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors
During the investigation, the issuer cannot try to collect the disputed amount or report it as delinquent. Ask for a new card number too, so nobody with your existing details can run additional charges.
Debit Card Charges Follow Different Rules
If SEGPAYEU hit a debit card, your protections come from the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, and speed matters more because the money has already left your checking account. Liability depends on when you report:
- Within 2 business days of learning of the loss, your liability is capped at $50.
- Between 3 and 60 days, your liability can reach $500.
- After 60 days, you could be responsible for the full amount of unauthorized transfers that occur after that 60-day window.
The 60-day clock starts when your bank sends or makes available the statement showing the unauthorized charge.5Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Regulation E 1005.6 – Liability of Consumer for Unauthorized Transfers If a debit card charge looks wrong, call your bank the same day.
When Charges Keep Coming After Cancellation
If you’ve canceled through Segpay and charges still appear, ask your bank to place a stop payment order blocking future transactions from that merchant. Banks and credit unions typically charge $15 to $35 for this service. Once you’ve revoked authorization in writing, any additional charges the company initiates count as errors, and your bank should refund them.6Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. How Do I Stop Automatic Payments From My Bank Account?
Keep copies of the cancellation request you sent to Segpay and the stop payment request you sent to the bank. If a charge slips through anyway, those records make the refund or dispute straightforward.
