SBI Card Charge Dispute Form: Attachments, Channels, Deadlines

The SBI Card transaction dispute form is a one-page document you complete and send to SBI Card when a charge on your credit card statement is wrong, unauthorized, duplicated, or unresolved by the merchant. Download it from the Forms Central section of the SBI Card website, tick the reason that fits your situation, attach the documents the form asks for, sign it, and submit it by email to chargeback@sbicard.com or by post to SBI Card’s Gurgaon office.1SBI Card. SBI Card Transaction Dispute Form The deadline is strict, and it starts on the transaction date, not the date the charge caught your eye.

Submit Before the Deadline Runs Out

How long you have depends on the card network:2SBI Card. Credit Card Transaction Disputes

  • Visa, Mastercard, or American Express, domestic or international: 90 days
  • RuPay international: 90 days
  • RuPay UPI: 75 days
  • RuPay domestic: 30 days

If SBI Card does not have both the completed form and the required supporting documents in hand within your window, the bank cannot raise the dispute with the merchant’s acquiring bank, and you become responsible for the full amount.2SBI Card. Credit Card Transaction Disputes For unauthorized charges specifically, a much tighter RBI clock also applies (see the last section).

Filling Out the Form

Header and Transaction Table

At the top, write the date you are filling out the form and your name exactly as it appears on the card. For the card number field, enter only the last two digits in the format the form specifies. The rest is pre-masked as “XXX” as a security precaution, so do not write your full 16-digit number.1SBI Card. SBI Card Transaction Dispute Form

Below the header is a table for the disputed transactions. For each charge you are contesting, fill in the transaction date, the merchant or ATM name exactly as it appears on your statement, the transaction amount, and the disputed amount. Every charge gets its own row.

Picking a Dispute Reason

The form lists twelve numbered reasons. Tick the one that matches your situation:1SBI Card. SBI Card Transaction Dispute Form

  • Reason 1 — Unauthorized transaction: you did not authorize the charge and the card was in your possession.
  • Reason 2 — Goods or services not received: fill in the expected delivery date and when you contacted the merchant.
  • Reason 3 — Failed transaction still billed.
  • Reason 4 — Duplicate or multiple billing.
  • Reason 5 — Paid by other means (cash, cheque, or another card).
  • Reason 6 — Goods not as described or defective.
  • Reason 7 — Incorrect amount billed: fill in both the correct and the billed amounts.
  • Reason 8 — Cancelled transaction, no refund received.
  • Reason 9 — Cancelled subscription still being billed.
  • Reason 10 — ATM cash not dispensed (or only part dispensed) but billed.
  • Reason 11 — Lost or stolen card: record the exact time and date of loss and how you reported it to SBI Card.
  • Reason 12 — Other: explain in the comments box, and attach a separate letter if needed.

Several reasons ask for extra details in blanks next to the tick box. Leaving these empty weakens your case and can get the form sent back. Selecting the wrong reason will not necessarily get the form rejected, but it slows things down because SBI Card routes different dispute types through different processes. When the situation does not fit cleanly, Reason 12 with a clear written explanation is the safer pick.

Declaration and Signature

The bottom of the form contains a declaration. By signing, you confirm the information is true, acknowledge that you can be held liable for charges made before you reported a lost or stolen card, and accept that SBI Card can levy charges if the dispute turns out to be invalid.1SBI Card. SBI Card Transaction Dispute Form Read it. Use the comments space for context that does not fit the tick-box reasons. Sign as the primary cardholder. An unsigned form will not be processed.

What to Attach

The form alone is often not enough. The TDF names the required documents next to each reason, and typical attachments include:2SBI Card. Credit Card Transaction Disputes

  • For cancelled subscriptions or bookings: the cancellation confirmation email, screenshot, or reference number.
  • For paid-by-other-means claims: a receipt or bank statement showing the alternate payment for the same purchase.
  • For merchant-promised refunds: written communication from the merchant acknowledging the refund (emails, chat transcripts).
  • For returned goods: the shipping receipt or courier tracking, plus any return authorization.
  • For an incorrect amount: the original purchase receipt showing what you actually authorized.

Gather these before you submit. If the documents arrive late or not at all, SBI Card may close the dispute against you.

Once SBI Card has the form and all supporting documents, they send a written acknowledgment confirming the dispute has been raised with the merchant.2SBI Card. SBI Card Transaction Dispute Form The FAQ puts the wider window at 60 to 90 days from receipt of a complete file, with complex cases taking longer.

While the investigation runs, SBI Card may post a temporary credit for the disputed amount so it does not inflate your outstanding balance. Your available credit limit stays reduced by that amount until things conclude. Finance charges and late fees tied to the disputed transaction may also be temporarily reversed, depending on the dispute type and SBI Card’s internal policy.

If the investigation goes against you, the temporary credit is reversed. The disputed amount returns to your balance, along with the finance charges and fees that were waived, and SBI Card also levies finance charges for the entire period the temporary credit sat on your account.2SBI Card. Unauthorized Transactions: Report the Same Day

For fraud or unauthorized charges, the Reserve Bank of India sets liability rules based on how quickly you report:5Reserve Bank of India. Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions

  • Reported within 3 working days: zero liability, provided the breach was not caused by your own negligence (like sharing your card details or PIN).
  • Reported within 4 to 7 working days: liability is capped at the transaction value or a fixed amount, whichever is lower. The cap is ₹10,000 for credit cards with a limit up to ₹5 lakh and ₹25,000 for credit cards with a limit above ₹5 lakh.
  • Reported after 7 working days: liability is determined by SBI Card’s board-approved policy, which can mean full responsibility for the charge.

The clock runs from the date you receive communication from the bank about the transaction, not from the statement date. If the fraud stems from a deficiency at SBI Card’s end, you have zero liability regardless of when you report. If you shared credentials or acted negligently, you bear the loss up to the moment you report, after which the bank covers any further unauthorized charges. If you spot a charge you did not make, report it the same day and file the form right after.
