A Royal Farms credit card charge on your statement is almost always one of three things: a pre-authorization hold placed when you swiped at the pump, a RoFo Pay ACH debit tied to the chain’s linked-checking payment program, or an unauthorized transaction from card skimming. Which one it is determines how you fix it.
Pump Pre-Authorization Holds
When you pay at the pump, the station doesn’t yet know your final fuel total, so it asks your card issuer to hold a set amount to confirm the card has funds. Those holds can run from as little as $1 to more than $100, and some stations have placed holds as high as $175.1AARP. Credit Card Pre-Authorization Holds at Gas Stations2The Wall Street Journal. Gas Stations Now Hold Up to $175 of Your Money When You Swipe
The station sets the hold amount; your card issuer decides how long it sits. Non-PIN transactions usually clear in 48 to 72 hours once the final purchase settles. PIN-based debit transactions clear almost immediately.3Connecticut General Assembly. Gas Station Preauthorization Holds If you used a debit card, a large hold can temporarily reduce your available balance and even trigger overdraft fees, though the station never actually keeps the excess. Credit cards feel less of this, because the hold just reduces available credit.
If a Royal Farms charge doesn’t match your receipt, give it a few days. Paying inside with a PIN debit, or paying cash, avoids the issue next time.
RoFo Pay and CheckRedi Collections
Royal Farms runs a payment program called RoFo Pay that links directly to your checking account and processes purchases as ACH debits, essentially electronic checks. Enrollees get a fuel discount of up to 10 cents per gallon, and transactions require a four-digit PIN. The program is managed by a third-party processor called Zipline.4Royal Farms. RoFo Pay caps spending at $125 per transaction, $150 per day, and $500 per week, with no more than five transactions in a day. The problem for most consumers starts when a charge bounces. If your bank returns a RoFo Pay debit, whether for insufficient funds, a closed account, or a changed account number, your RoFo Pay account is placed on hold and the returned charge is sent to a collection agency called CheckRedi. CheckRedi then adds its own fee on top of the original amount. Royal Farms says it does not profit from those fees and has no authority over when they are imposed.5RoFo Rewards. RoFo Rewards FAQ

Could It Be Skimming?
If the charge isn’t a hold and you didn’t use RoFo Pay, fraud is a real possibility. In November 2024, police found card skimming devices at six Royal Farms stores across southeastern Pennsylvania, in Glenolden, Broomall, Collegeville, Norristown, Kulpsville, and North Wales.66ABC. Skimmers capture card data when you swipe or insert at a tampered terminal, and the stolen data is used for later fraudulent purchases that may show up as charges from unfamiliar merchants. Before using a reader, check it for loose, crooked, or damaged parts. If you spot an unauthorized transaction, report it to both your bank and local police right away.
How to Dispute the Charge
For a pre-authorization hold that hasn’t cleared, wait 48 to 72 hours. If it still doesn’t match your receipt, call your card issuer.
For suspected fraud or any other billing error, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a defined process. Write to your card issuer within 60 days of the statement date, include your name, account number, and a description of the error, and send it to the issuer’s billing inquiry address rather than the payment address. The issuer must acknowledge your dispute within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days. You can withhold payment on the disputed amount during the investigation, and the issuer cannot report it as delinquent or send it to collections. Your liability for unauthorized credit card charges is capped at $50.9Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges

Charges on a Business Account
A Royal Farms charge on a corporate card is a different animal. The chain offers two WEX-powered fleet cards: the Royal Farms Fleet Card, accepted at roughly 270 Royal Farms locations with up to 5 cents per gallon in savings, and the Royal Farms Universal Card, accepted at 95 percent of U.S. gas stations and 45,000 service locations beyond the Royal Farms network. Neither carries setup, annual, or card fees.11WEX. Royal Farms Fleet Card12WEX.
