ReelShort Charge: How to Stop It, Refund Paths, and Your Rights

A ReelShort charge on your bank statement is a payment to the short-drama streaming app run by Crazy Maple Studio, and it usually comes from one of two things: a VIP subscription that auto-renewed, or an in-app coin purchase used to unlock episodes. A recurring amount almost always means the subscription. A one-time amount almost always means coins.

What the Charge Covers

ReelShort VIP subscriptions cost $14.99 for the first week (then $19.99 per week), $39.99 per month, or $199.99 per year, and every plan auto-renews. The renewal is processed within 24 hours before the current period ends.1ReelShort. ReelShort Shopping

Coin packs run from $4.99 for 500 coins up to $99.99 for 20,000 coins, with bonus coins on the larger packs.1ReelShort. ReelShort Shopping Coins unlock individual episodes. Prices vary by episode and reviewers report them climbing as a series progresses, from roughly 52 coins to over 90 coins per episode.2Apple App Store. How the charge appears on your statement depends on where you paid. Google Play purchases usually show a prefix like “GOOGLE*Crazy Maple” or “GOOGLE*ReelShort.”4Google Play Help. If neither prefix appears, ReelShort likely billed you directly through its own processor, and the merchant name may read “Crazy Maple Studio” or “ReelShort.”

The Rules That Back You Up

The Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA) requires any online seller using auto-renewal billing to disclose all material terms before collecting payment information, get the consumer’s express informed consent, and provide a simple way to cancel.11Federal Trade Commission. FTC Negative Option Policy Statement Violations can carry civil penalties of up to $53,088 per violation along with consumer restitution.

The FTC’s “Click-to-Cancel” rule would have required cancellation to be as easy as signing up, but the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated it on July 8, 2025, in Custom Communications, Inc. v. Federal Trade Commission, finding the FTC had not completed a required cost-benefit analysis.12U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Custom Communications Inc. v. FTC, No. 24-3137 As of early 2026, the agency has taken preliminary steps toward a replacement but has not issued one.

State laws fill part of the gap. California’s Automatic Renewal Law, as amended effective July 1, 2025, requires express affirmative consent to auto-renewal terms, an online cancellation method if sign-up was online, and annual reminders with charge details and cancellation instructions. It prohibits businesses from taking steps that “obstruct or delay” immediate cancellation.13California Office of the Attorney General. Consumer Alert: California’s Automatic Renewal Law New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, and Connecticut have enacted or updated similar auto-renewal statutes.

No federal or state enforcement action has been filed against ReelShort or Crazy Maple Studio specifically. If you believe the company’s sign-up flow or cancellation process fell short of ROSCA or your state’s auto-renewal law, that is grounds to raise with your card issuer in a dispute and, if you live in a state with an active statute, with your state attorney general’s office.
