Quebec Income Tax Forms: TP-1-V, RL Slips, and Deadlines

To file a Quebec income tax return, you use provincial Form TP-1-V as the main return, attach lettered schedules for the specific credits and situations that apply to you, and report your income using RL information slips issued by employers, payers, and service providers. Quebec runs its own tax agency, Revenu Québec, so the provincial forms sit alongside the federal return you file with the Canada Revenue Agency, not in place of it.

Form TP-1-V: The Main Return

Form TP-1-V calculates your total income, net income, taxable income, and the final balance you owe or the refund you’re due. If you file on paper, you need the full return package, TP-1.FG-V, which bundles the guide, the return itself, and the schedules together.1Revenu Québec. Income Tax Return, Schedules and Guide Authorized tax software fills in the correct schedules automatically as you enter your information.

You have to file a return if you lived in Quebec on December 31 and owe income tax, a Quebec Pension Plan contribution, a parental insurance premium, or a health services fund contribution. Filing is also required if you disposed of capital property, realized a capital gain, worked in the restaurant or hotel sector and received tips, or owe a premium under the Quebec Prescription Drug Insurance Plan. Even outside those situations, you should file if you want the solidarity tax credit, the Family Allowance, or the senior assistance tax credit, or if you want to transfer unused credits to a spouse. For most of those credits, your spouse must also file.2Revenu Québec. Are You Required to File an Income Tax Return?

Schedules You Attach to TP-1-V

Which schedules you need depends on the credits you’re claiming and the situations that apply to you. These are the ones that come up most often.

RL Slips That Report Your Income

Quebec uses its own information slips, called RL slips. They parallel the federal T-slip system, but the box numbers are different and map directly to specific lines on the TP-1-V. Gather your Social Insurance Number and every RL slip that applies to you before you start.

  • RL-1 reports employment income, including salary, wages, tips, commissions, and fees, along with provincial tax withheld at source. The amount in Box A goes on line 101 of your return.10Revenu Québec. Line 101 – Employment Income
  • RL-2 reports retirement and annuity income, covering RRSP withdrawals, RRIF payments, and pension benefits.11Revenu Québec. RL-2 Slip: Retirement and Annuity Income
  • RL-3 reports investment income of $50 or more, including interest, dividends, and capital gains distributions.12Revenu Québec. RL-3 Slip: Investment Income
  • RL-24 is issued by childcare providers and supports the expenses you claim on Schedule C.13Revenu Québec. RL-24 Slip: Childcare Expenses

Copy each box number carefully to the matching line on the return. Mismatches between your slip amounts and the figures on your TP-1-V trigger automated flags during processing and can delay a refund or prompt a review. Software that imports slips electronically handles the mapping for you.

Supporting Documents to Keep

Beyond the slips themselves, keep receipts and documentation for any deduction or credit you claim, including moving expenses, support payments, and medical costs. Revenu Québec expects you to retain supporting documents for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to.14Revenu Québec. Keeping Your Registers and Supporting Documents You also need to report your marital status and your province of residence as of December 31, because both affect which credits you qualify for and how they’re calculated.2Revenu Québec. Deadlines

The deadline to file your provincial return and pay any balance owing is April 30. If April 30 falls on a weekend, the deadline shifts to the next business day.15Revenu Québec. Deadline for Filing Your Income Tax Return

If you or your spouse operated a business during the year, or earned income as a person responsible for a family-type or intermediate resource, you have until June 15 to file. The extra time applies only to the paperwork. Any tax you owe is still due April 30, and interest starts accruing on unpaid amounts after that date.16Revenu Québec. Late filing is expensive. The penalty is 5% of the unpaid balance plus an additional 1% for every full month the return stays late, up to 12 months.17Revenu Québec. Late-Filing Penalties

How to Submit the Forms

Most people file electronically through authorized commercial software that includes the NetFile Québec feature. The software transmits the completed return directly to Revenu Québec, and you get an instant confirmation number as proof of filing.18Revenu Québec. Filing Your Income Tax Return Online Electronic filing is the fastest route to a refund and avoids transcription errors.

You can also file on paper by mailing your return to one of two processing centres in Québec City or Montréal, depending on where you live. Paper filing adds processing time.19Revenu Québec. Filing Your Income Tax Return by Mail

Fixing a Return After You File

If you find an error or omission after filing, don’t send a second return. Request an adjustment through one of three channels.20Revenu Québec. Correcting an Error or Omission

  • My Account is the fastest option. You can make changes online for the current year and the three preceding years.
  • Authorized tax software lets you submit corrections electronically or by mail for recent years, if you originally filed with approved software.
  • Form TP-1.R-V is the paper adjustment request. You must use it when the change involves a year before 2022, when your return is still being processed, or when you’ve already filed a notice of objection or court appeal.

One case doesn’t need a request at all: if the only change is a transfer of credits between spouses, Revenu Québec makes that adjustment automatically during processing. If you’re worried that correcting the error will trigger penalties or interest, a voluntary disclosure application may qualify you for penalty relief.20Revenu Québec. Correcting an Error or Omission
