PSI Services LLC Charge: What It Pays For, Disputes, and Contact

A charge from PSI Services LLC on your bank or credit card statement is almost always a fee for a professional licensing or certification exam. PSI is one of the largest testing companies in the United States, administering exams for state licensing boards, federal agencies, and certification bodies in fields like real estate, insurance, construction trades, cosmetology, healthcare, IT, and aviation.1PSI Exams. PSI Services LLC If the charge is yours, you registered for an exam. If it isn’t, someone with access to your card did, or you’re looking at an unauthorized use.

What the Charge Pays For

PSI collects the exam fee directly from the test-taker at the time of registration. The amount depends entirely on which exam and which state. A few examples give you a sense of the range to match against your statement:

PSI administers exams for boards in all 50 states covering construction, real estate, insurance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, cosmetology, water and wastewater operations, and other regulated trades.7PSI Exams. If You Don’t Recognize the Charge

Before treating the charge as fraud, check whether a family member on your account recently started pursuing a license. Insurance agents, real estate agents, contractors, cosmetologists, and pilots all pay PSI during their licensing process, often more than once if they’re sitting for multiple sections or retaking after a fail. Employers sometimes have new hires register themselves and expense the fee afterward, which can also put a PSI charge on a personal card. Finally, fees paid up to a year ago can resurface in your awareness if you’d forgotten the registration; PSI holds unused fees for twelve months before they expire.8Ohio Department of Insurance. If none of that fits, treat it as a possible unauthorized charge and contact your bank to dispute it alongside contacting PSI directly.

Can You Get the Money Back?

PSI’s refund rules are strict and consistent across most programs. The basics:

  • Exam fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.6Texas Department of Insurance. PSI Candidate Bulletin
  • Fees expire one year from the date of payment. If you don’t sit for the exam within that window, the money is forfeited.8Ohio Department of Insurance. PSI Insurance License Examination Candidate Information Bulletin
  • You can cancel or reschedule without losing your fee only if you notify PSI at least two days before the exam date, through the website or by speaking directly with a representative. Voicemail and email do not count.9PSI Exams. Candidate Bulletin
  • Your fee is forfeited if you miss the cancellation deadline, don’t show up, arrive late, or fail to bring the required identification.6Texas Department of Insurance. PSI Candidate Bulletin

California is tighter still: you forfeit the fee if you don’t start the exam within 15 minutes of your booked time, and no-shows or failures must pay a new rescheduling fee unless they canceled at least 48 hours in advance.3California Department of Insurance. PSI’s position in fee disputes is that the rules are published in the Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) for each exam program, and the candidate is responsible for reading it before registering. The company rarely reinstates expired fees or issues refunds for missed appointments.11Better Business Bureau. PSI Services LLC BBB Complaints

When You Have a Stronger Case

PSI has 491 BBB complaints over a three-year window, 260 of them classified as service or repair issues.12Better Business Bureau. PSI Services LLC BBB Complaints Even so, some situations give you a better footing than the standard “I didn’t show up” dispute.

Technical failures during a remote-proctored exam. Candidates frequently report that the testing software crashed, timed out, or failed to launch after they’d already passed PSI’s system compatibility check. PSI’s standard response is to attribute the problem to the candidate’s device and deny the refund. In one March 2026 case, PSI blamed an undetectable background process on the candidate’s laptop after a $52 exam failed to launch; in another from April 2026, a user was marked absent and lost the fee after system errors blocked access during the entire 30-minute exam window.12Better Business Bureau. PSI Services LLC BBB Complaints Document everything: screenshots, timestamps, chat transcripts with support, and any error codes. These disputes are hard to win, but documentation is the only thing that moves them.

Proctor-terminated sessions. Remote exams require you to be alone in a room with no interruptions. Complaints describe sessions terminated over minor environmental triggers, with PSI upholding them as “major violations” and requiring a paid retake. One March 2026 complainant lost the exam and fee after a child briefly approached the office door.12Better Business Bureau. PSI Services LLC BBB Complaints If this happened to you, raise it with both PSI and the state licensing board that contracts with PSI; the board sometimes has more leverage than you do.

Accessibility. If you’re a blind or low-vision candidate who was blocked by screen-reader incompatibility or an onerous accommodations approval process, PSI settled a 2021 class action brought by the National Federation of the Blind in which it agreed to make its online testing compatible with screen access software.13Disability Rights Advocates. If PSI denies your refund and you paid by credit card, you can file a chargeback with your card issuer. Your bank will ask for documentation, so collect it before you call.
