PNB RTGS/NEFT Form: Sections, Charges, and Branch Timings

The PNB NEFT/RTGS form is a single-page slip you fill out at any Punjab National Bank branch to move money from your account to a beneficiary’s account at another bank. You write in your own account details, the recipient’s bank information, and the amount, tick either NEFT or RTGS depending on how much you are sending, sign it, and hand it to the teller. With the right information in hand, the counter visit usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.

What to Bring to the Branch

A blank field on the form means a rejected form. Gather everything before you leave the house:

  • Your PNB account number, exactly as it appears on your passbook, cheque book, or statement.
  • The beneficiary’s full name as registered with their bank. Even a minor mismatch can bounce the transfer back.
  • The beneficiary’s account number. Check every digit; a transposed number sends your money to a stranger and recovery becomes a dispute.
  • The beneficiary’s bank and branch name.
  • The eleven-character IFSC code for the receiving branch. You will find it on any cheque leaf from that bank, in the recipient’s passbook, or by searching the RBI website.
  • The exact amount you want to send, and whether it is below or at least ₹2 lakh.

Carry your PNB passbook or a recent statement for reference. Some branches also ask for a cheque leaf from your own account as a debit authorization alongside the filled form.

NEFT or RTGS: Which Box to Tick

The form has checkboxes for both. The amount decides which one applies, and ticking the wrong box will get the form handed back to you.

Tick NEFT if you are sending less than ₹2 lakh. The Reserve Bank of India sets no minimum or maximum for NEFT, though individual banks can impose their own caps. The system runs 24×7 and processes transactions in half-hourly batches, so your money typically reaches the beneficiary within one to two hours during busy periods and faster during off-peak times.1Reserve Bank of India. Tick RTGS if the amount is ₹2,00,000 or more. There is no upper ceiling. RTGS settles each transaction individually the moment it enters the system, and the beneficiary’s bank must credit the account within 30 minutes of receiving the funds. If the credit cannot happen for any reason, the receiving bank must return the money to PNB within one hour.2Reserve Bank of India. Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System RTGS has also been available 24x7x365 since December 14, 2020.

Filling Out the Form Section by Section

Pick up a blank slip from the service counter or the self-service stand near the entrance. Use ink and write in block letters.

Sender Details

Start with your own information: full name as registered with PNB, account number, and branch name. If there is a field for your mobile number, fill it in, because that is the number the bank uses for transaction confirmations. Sign in the designated space, and match the signature PNB has on file. A signature mismatch is one of the most common reasons tellers reject forms at the counter.

Beneficiary Details

Enter the recipient’s full name, account number, bank name, branch name, and the eleven-character IFSC code. The IFSC is the single most important field, because it tells the clearing system exactly which branch should receive the money. A wrong code either fails the transfer or sends it to the wrong branch. If you are unsure, ask the teller to look it up, though arriving with it saves time.

Amount and Transfer Type

Write the amount in both figures and words. If the two don’t match, the bank will reject the form to guard against errors and fraud. Tick NEFT or RTGS based on the amount. Leave the “For Bank Use Only” section completely blank; the teller fills it in during processing.

What It Costs at the Counter

Both NEFT and RTGS are free when you use PNB’s internet banking or mobile app. Branch-initiated transfers carry service charges that the bank deducts from your account along with the transfer amount, so your balance has to cover both.

The RBI caps RTGS branch fees at ₹25 plus applicable tax for transfers between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh, and at ₹50 plus tax for amounts above ₹5 lakh. Inward RTGS transfers are always free; the recipient pays nothing.2Reserve Bank of India. Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System

PNB’s branch-level NEFT charges are tiered by amount. On the most recent published schedule, outward NEFT fees at a branch run from roughly ₹2.25 plus GST for amounts up to ₹10,000, climbing through intermediate slabs to about ₹24.75 plus GST for amounts above ₹2 lakh. These charges change periodically, so if the fee matters to you, confirm the current figure with the teller before you submit.

When the Branch Will Accept Your Form

The NEFT and RTGS systems themselves run around the clock, but a branch-initiated transfer is limited to banking hours. PNB branches generally accept these forms from 8:00 AM to roughly 7:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays the branch is open. Branches are typically closed on the second and fourth Saturday of each month and on Sundays.

Arriving late is risky. Even if the door is still open, the teller may have closed the day’s outward transfer window. For same-day processing, aim to submit at least an hour before closing. Anything after the branch cut-off is queued for the next business day.

After You Hand It Over

The teller at the remittance or funds transfer counter checks your balance, verifies your signature, and enters the transaction into the bank’s system. If your balance cannot cover the transfer amount plus the fee, the transaction is declined at the counter.

Once processed, you receive a stamped acknowledgment slip. Keep it; it is your proof that the bank accepted the request, with the date and time of submission. PNB then sends an SMS to your registered mobile number confirming the transaction status, including a Unique Transaction Reference number, or UTR.

The UTR is how you trace the money if something goes wrong. For NEFT it is a sixteen-character alphanumeric string; for RTGS it is twenty-two characters, with the first four identifying the originating bank. Both the sending and receiving banks use this number to locate the transaction.

If the beneficiary says the money has not arrived, give the UTR to your PNB branch and ask them to trace it. For RTGS the credit should appear within 30 minutes under normal conditions. For NEFT expect anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple of hours depending on the batch. If neither bank can credit the funds, the amount must be returned to your account; for RTGS, the receiving bank is required to return uncredited funds within one hour.2Reserve Bank of India. Hold on to both the stamped slip and the UTR until the beneficiary confirms the full amount has landed. Those two records together give you everything you need to resolve a dispute with the bank.
