A “Paw Smart Inc” charge on your bank or credit card statement is almost always a recurring subscription to a pet-related app, most likely PawSmart.AI (a virtual veterinary consultation and AI pet health screening service) or a similarly named pet training or wellness platform you signed up for, often through a low-priced trial. You can stop the billing by canceling through the service’s account settings or your app store, and you can dispute the charge with your card issuer if the company won’t cooperate or you never authorized it.
What the Charge Usually Is
Pet subscription apps frequently bill under corporate names that look nothing like the app a customer downloaded. PawSmart.AI, for example, sells subscription plans for virtual vet consultations and AI-assisted pet health screenings that auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle. The company is governed under Ontario, Canada law and runs payments through third-party processors such as Stripe.1PawSmart.AI. Terms of Use
A separate but similar service, PawChamp, is operated by Dogitality Corp. and has drawn complaints from consumers who saw descriptors like “DogitalityCorp” or “AplPay VPAWCHAMP DOVER DE” on their statements and did not recognize them.2Better Business Bureau. Dogitality Corp. BBB Complaints If “Paw Smart Inc” isn’t ringing a bell, the actual biller is probably one of these services or another pet app with a similarly generic corporate name.
Figuring Out Which Service Is Billing You
Before you can cancel, you need to know who is actually charging you. A few places to look:
- Your email inbox, including spam and promotions folders, for a welcome message, receipt, or subscription confirmation from any pet-related service.
- Your App Store or Google Play purchase history, especially if the statement descriptor includes an app store reference like “AplPay.”
- The statement itself, for a phone number, city, or URL fragment that points to a specific company.
Once you’ve matched the charge to a service, cancel through the same channel you used to sign up.
How To Cancel the Subscription
If you subscribed through an app store, open your Apple ID or Google Play account settings and turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the next billing period ends.3PawChamp. Subscription Policy
If you signed up on a website, log in to the service and look for a cancellation or “turn off auto-renewal” option under account or membership settings. PawSmart.AI directs users to cancel through the account dashboard before the renewal date.4PawSmart.AI. Subscriptions Terms of Use
If you can’t find a cancellation option, email the company’s support team directly. PawSmart.AI lists support@pawsmart.ai.1PawSmart.AI. Terms of Use PawChamp lists support@paw-champ.com.3PawChamp. Subscription Policy
One trap worth flagging: deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Both PawChamp and similar services say so explicitly in their terms.3PawChamp. Subscription Policy Keep written confirmation of any cancellation request you submit, in case the charges keep coming.
Disputing the Charge With Your Card Issuer
If the company refuses to cancel or refund, or you never authorized the subscription in the first place, you can dispute the charge through your credit card company. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, send a written dispute notice to your card issuer’s billing inquiries address within 60 days of the statement date on which the charge first appeared. Include your name, account number, and a description of the charge, and send the letter by certified mail so you have proof of delivery.5Federal Trade Commission. The FTC Click-to-Cancel Ruleh2>
The FTC finalized its Click-to-Cancel rule in October 2024. It requires sellers to make cancellation as simple as signing up, prohibits misrepresenting material terms, and requires express informed consent before charging for an auto-renewing subscription. The rule’s provisions generally took effect 180 days after publication in the Federal Register.9Federal Trade Commission.
