No W-2 From OnlyFans? How to Get Your 1099-NEC

OnlyFans doesn’t send a W-2 because creators are independent contractors, not employees. The platform reports your earnings on Form 1099-NEC, which you download from your OnlyFans account dashboard once the calendar year ends. Copies are due to you by January 31, and for tax year 2026 the platform is only required to issue one if it paid you $2,000 or more.

Why There’s No W-2

A W-2 goes to employees whose employer withholds income tax, Social Security, and Medicare from each paycheck. OnlyFans creators set their own schedules, produce their own content, and run their own business, so no employer-employee relationship exists and nothing is withheld from your payouts.1Internal Revenue Service. Federal law instead requires any business that pays a non-employee $2,000 or more in a calendar year to file Form 1099-NEC reporting those payments,2Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6041A – Returns Regarding Payments of Remuneration for Services and Direct Sales and to send you a copy by January 31 of the following year.3Internal Revenue Service. Information Return Reporting The figure on the form is your gross earnings before OnlyFans takes its commission, not the amount that reached your bank account.

The $2,000 Threshold for 2026

Before 2026, platforms had to send a 1099-NEC at $600. A recent change in federal law raised that floor to $2,000 for payments made after December 31, 2025.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6041 – Information at Source If your total OnlyFans earnings for the year come in under $2,000, you may not receive a form at all.

That doesn’t make the income tax-free. You have to report every dollar of self-employment income on your return whether or not a form arrives. The threshold only decides when the platform must notify the IRS; your own obligation begins with dollar one.

Set Up Your W-9 First

OnlyFans can only generate a 1099-NEC once you’ve submitted a completed Form W-9 through the platform. The W-9 is the standard IRS document that gives a payer your taxpayer identification number.5Internal Revenue Service. About Form W-9, Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification You’ll find it in the banking or tax information area of your account settings.

To complete it you need:

  • Your legal name as it appears on your Social Security card or government ID
  • A mailing address used to verify tax residency
  • A taxpayer identification number: your Social Security Number for individual filers, or an EIN if you operate through an LLC or other business entity

Backup Withholding If Your TIN Is Missing

If OnlyFans can’t verify your taxpayer identification number, it may be required to withhold 24% of your earnings and send that money straight to the IRS.6Internal Revenue Service. Fast Facts to Help Taxpayers Understand Backup Withholding You can only recover the money as a credit when you file your annual return, so a stale or incorrect W-9 can lock up a large slice of your income for months.

Downloading Your 1099-NEC

Once the calendar year closes and OnlyFans processes the numbers, the form appears in your account. To pull it down:

  • Log into your verified OnlyFans account
  • Open the banking or statements section in the account menu
  • Look for a tax forms sub-section, which holds the current year and prior years
  • Download the PDF; that’s your official record for federal and state filings

Delivery defaults to electronic. Federal rules allow platforms to furnish tax forms electronically as long as you’ve consented to receive them that way,8Internal Revenue Service. Requirements for Furnishing Form 1099-G Electronically and most creators are opted in without realizing it, so paper copies generally don’t get mailed. If you want a physical copy, print the PDF or ask OnlyFans support to send one.

If Your 1099-NEC Is Missing or Wrong

If January 31 passes and nothing has posted to your dashboard, contact OnlyFans support and ask for the form. Confirm that your tax profile is accurate while you’re at it, because errors in your W-9, including a stale mailing address or the wrong TIN, can hold up form generation.

Still nothing, or a corrected version you’re waiting on, by the end of February? You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 for help. Have your name, address, Social Security number, and the platform’s contact information ready when you call.9Internal Revenue Service. What to Do When a W-2 or Form 1099 Is Missing or Incorrect

If your filing deadline arrives before the form does, estimate your earnings from your own records — bank statements, platform payment history, screenshots of the earnings dashboard — and file with those numbers. If a 1099-NEC turns up later showing different figures, you can correct the return with Form 1040-X.

Closed or Suspended Accounts

If your OnlyFans account has been suspended or closed, you may no longer be able to log in and grab the form yourself. Contact OnlyFans support and ask that your tax forms be sent to you directly. The platform is still legally required to furnish the form regardless of account status.

As a backup, the IRS keeps its own copy of what payers reported under your Social Security number. What About a 1099-K?

You may have heard about Form 1099-K, which payment apps and online marketplaces use for goods-and-services payments. It has its own reporting threshold, currently $20,000 and more than 200 transactions.11Internal Revenue Service. Understanding Your Form 1099-K OnlyFans reports creator earnings as nonemployee compensation on a 1099-NEC, so 1099-K rules generally don’t touch your OnlyFans income. If a separate payment app processes money for other work you do, you could receive both forms for different income streams, but the same income never gets reported twice.

Once You Have the Form

You’ll report the gross figure from your 1099-NEC on Schedule C (Profit or Loss from Business), attached to your Form 1040, and subtract allowable business expenses to reach the net profit that gets taxed.12Internal Revenue Service. Because nothing is withheld from your payouts, the IRS expects quarterly estimated payments instead of a single check at filing time.
