A NeuLion charge on a credit card is almost always a sports streaming subscription billed under the name of the technology platform that processed the payment, most often UFC Fight Pass. If you didn’t expect it, the usual cause is an auto-renewing subscription that was never canceled. The fix is to cancel through the streaming service’s own account page and, if the charge looks unauthorized or keeps hitting after you cancel, dispute it with your bank.
What NeuLion Is
NeuLion was a video technology company that ran the behind-the-scenes streaming and payment platform for a long list of sports properties, including UFC Fight Pass, the NBA, the NFL, MLS, the Big Ten Network, and roughly 200 college athletics programs.1SportsPro. How To Stop the Charge
Start by identifying which service you’re actually being billed for. UFC Fight Pass is the most common source. The subscription runs $9.99 per month and renews automatically until canceled.4ClassAction.org. If the charge is tied to a different NeuLion-powered service like an NBA, NFL, or MLS streaming product, cancellation runs through that league’s own portal. Look closely at the billing descriptor on your statement; it often carries extra text identifying the specific service.
Disputing the Charge With Your Bank
If the charge looks unauthorized, continues after you cancel, or you can’t identify the underlying service, dispute it with your card issuer or bank. The UFC Fight Pass Auto-Renewal Settlement
NeuLion’s billing practices were the subject of a class action, Reza et al. v. Zuffa, LLC et al. (Case No. 2:23-cv-00802) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. The plaintiffs alleged that Zuffa and NeuLion USA, LLC enrolled consumers in auto-renewing Fight Pass subscriptions without the disclosures required by California’s Automatic Renewal Law, the federal Electronic Funds Transfer Act, and similar state statutes, and that they failed to obtain proper affirmative consent or provide compliant cancellation information.7ClassAction.org. State Automatic Renewal Protections
California’s Automatic Renewal Law, at Business and Professions Code sections 17600 through 17606, requires businesses to present automatic renewal terms in a clear and conspicuous way near the request for consent, to obtain the consumer’s express affirmative consent before charging a renewal, to send a post-purchase acknowledgment with cancellation instructions, and to offer an easy-to-use cancellation method. For online subscriptions, that means a prominently located “click to cancel” button or an immediately accessible termination email option.10California Legislative Information. Business and Professions Code, Article 9
The statute carries a sharp penalty: goods or services provided without proper affirmative consent are treated as unconditional gifts to the consumer, meaning the business has no legal basis to collect.10California Legislative Information. Business and Professions Code, Article 9 Ten other states and the District of Columbia have comparable auto-renewal rules, which is why the Fight Pass settlement class spanned eleven jurisdictions. If you live in one of those places and were enrolled without clear disclosure, those rules can strengthen a dispute with your card issuer.
