The settlement resolved federal and multi-state enforcement actions against Nationstar Mortgage (doing business as Mr. Cooper) over unlawful mortgage servicing. Who the Settlement Was For

Property Preservation Group
Borrowers whose home was inspected by Nationstar or its agent, determined vacant, and had its locks changed between June 24, 2011 and December 29, 2017. To qualify, the borrower had to have either requested access within 30 days of the lock change, or a follow-up inspection within 90 days had to show the property was actually occupied.1Nationstar/Mr. Cooper Settlement. Service Transfer Group

How Much the Checks Are
Service transfer borrowers who lost their homes received a guaranteed minimum of $840. Property preservation borrowers received a guaranteed minimum of $250.3Protect The Good Life. If Your Check Hasn’t Arrived or Was Lost

Settlement checks typically expire 90 to 180 days after issuance. If an uncashed check is sitting on your counter, deposit it before the void date printed on it, or contact the administrator about a reissue.
If You Never Got a Claim Packet

There’s no guarantee, but confirming your status costs nothing.
The Mr. Cooper Data Breach Is a Different Matter
A lot of people searching for this settlement are actually looking for the Mr. Cooper cyberattack, which is unrelated. On October 31, 2023, Mr. Cooper discovered a cyberattack and shut down systems. Mr. Cooper offered affected individuals two years of TransUnion identity protection covering single-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, credit alerts, and proactive fraud assistance.5Maine.gov. No final data breach settlement has been confirmed, so any offer you see claiming otherwise deserves close scrutiny.
