To file a Mitsubishi warranty claim on a residential HVAC system, contact the licensed HVAC contractor who installed the equipment and have them submit the claim to Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US (METUS) or an authorized distributor. Homeowners cannot file directly. Your contractor, referred to in the warranty as a “Warranty Processor,” diagnoses the failure, confirms the system is still within its coverage period, and arranges for a replacement part through the manufacturer’s distribution network.1Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. Confirm Your Coverage Before You Call
Coverage runs from the installation date and depends on registration. A licensed installation alone gets you five years on parts and seven on the compressor. Registration within 90 days extends both to ten years in an owner-occupied home, and to twelve years if a Diamond Contractor or Ductless Pro handled the installation and registration in a single-family home you still own and occupy.2Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC. Register Your Product
Many homeowners assume the installer registered the system and only find out otherwise when they file a claim. Check first. Mitsubishi Electric hosts a warranty lookup at registermehvac.com where you can search by warranty number or by model and serial number, and the warranty support line at 1-877-690-2080 can help if the record isn’t turning up.3Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. If the 90-day registration window is still open, register the system through mitsubishicomfort.com before doing anything else. After it closes, the extended terms are permanently off the table.2Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC. Register Your Product
What to Gather Before Contacting a Contractor
Assemble the documentation below before you place the call. Missing pieces cause the most common delays.
- Model and serial numbers from the manufacturing stamps on both the outdoor and indoor units. The model numbers should also appear on your original invoice; if the serial is not there, read it off the nameplate.4Mitsubishi Electric. Mr.Slim Reg Serial Num Example
- Proof of installation date in the form of a sales receipt, building permit, or similar record from a licensed contractor. This is a hard requirement. Without acceptable proof, the warranty is treated as starting 120 days after the manufacture date stamped on the unit, which shortens your real coverage.1Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. - Description of the problem, including any error codes shown on the unit or remote and when the symptoms started.
- Maintenance records for filter changes and any professional service. The warranty excludes failures caused by deferred or improper maintenance, and dated records protect you if the claim is questioned.
Who Files the Claim
The warranty statement directs you to the licensed contractor who installed the system, or another licensed contractor, servicer, or authorized product distributor. Any of these parties can act as the Warranty Processor.1Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. Limited Warranty Statement
If the original installer is unreachable or out of business, any licensed HVAC contractor can pick up the claim. You can also work through an authorized Mitsubishi Electric distributor directly. METUS Customer Care at 1-800-433-4822 can point you to one in your area.5Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. Pro Resources and Tools
Hand your contractor the proof of installation and serial numbers. From there the submission process happens between the contractor and the manufacturer or distributor. Your role is documentation and site access for diagnosis and repair.
What Happens After Submission
Once the Warranty Processor confirms the defect is covered, METUS arranges for a replacement part through its distribution chain. The manufacturer decides whether to update, repair, or replace the failed component, and replacement compressors may be new or remanufactured. Any replacement part is warranted only for the remainder of the original term, not a fresh period. Defective compressors have to be returned in exchange for the replacement and become the manufacturer’s property.1Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. Limited Warranty Statement
Mitsubishi Electric does not publish standard processing or shipping timelines, so ask your contractor for an estimated turnaround when they submit the request. If communication stalls, call Customer Care at 1-800-433-4822 to check on claim status.
What You Still Pay For
The warranty covers parts. It does not cover labor. You pay the contractor’s service call fee, diagnostic time, and all labor to remove the failed component and install the replacement. Shipping and handling to and from your location are also excluded.1Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. Limited Warranty Statement HVAC diagnostic service calls typically run between $75 and $250, and labor rates vary by region, so even a fully covered part replacement carries an out-of-pocket cost.
Coverage also excludes failures caused by:
- Improper component matching or sizing, or installation by anyone who isn’t a licensed HVAC contractor.
- Operation in corrosive or wet environments, including areas with chlorine, fluorine, salt water, or other harmful chemicals.
- Power surges from lightning strikes or utility fluctuations.
- Damage caused by pipes, wiring, fittings, or other components not sold by METUS.
- Consumables such as air filters and refrigerant.
- Deferred maintenance or failure to follow the operation manual.

When Filing Will Not Help
The warranty applies only to the original purchaser residing in the home and is explicitly non-transferable. If you bought a house with a Mitsubishi Electric system already installed, you have no METUS warranty coverage on that equipment, no matter how much of the original term is left.6Mitsubishi Electric M-Series Warranty. Mitsubishi Electric M-Series Split AC and Heat Pump Systems Warranty The same rule cuts the other way if you’re selling: the warranty isn’t an asset that passes to the buyer, and any repairs after closing come out of the new owner’s pocket or a separate home warranty policy.
