MerchPayout SV9T on Bank Statement: Amazon Source and Verification

A MerchPayout SV9T line on your bank statement is an ACH merchant payout, and in nearly every case it’s an Amazon disbursement landing in your account. “MERCHPAYOUT” is the descriptor the payment processor puts in the transfer’s reference field, and “SV9T” identifies the processing batch or route rather than the company sending the money. If you sell on Amazon, publish through Kindle Direct Publishing, run an Amazon Associates account, or design products through Merch on Demand, this is almost certainly your earnings deposit.

Why the Descriptor Looks Unfamiliar

Banks receive ACH credits with a short reference field, and the sending processor fills it with an internal code instead of a recognizable brand name. That’s why the deposit doesn’t say “Amazon” the way a payroll deposit says your employer’s name. Depending on how your bank formats electronic transfers, you may see it as MERCHPAYOUT SV9T, MERCH PAYOUT SV9T, or MERCHPAYOUTSV9T.

Mechanically, the deposit is an ordinary ACH credit. Amazon settles your account balance, pushes the funds through the ACH network, and the money posts to your bank one to three business days later. Most banks charge nothing to receive it.

Which Amazon Program Sent the Money

Four different Amazon earnings streams commonly show up under this descriptor, and each runs on its own schedule. If you’re active in more than one, you may see multiple deposits in the same month.

  • Amazon Seller Central. Third-party sellers receive net proceeds after Amazon deducts referral fees, fulfillment costs, and other charges. Professional plan sellers get disbursed roughly every 14 days, and some accounts can request a transfer of available funds once every 24 hours.
  • Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). Authors earn royalties on eBook and paperback sales. For U.S. authors paid by electronic transfer, there is no minimum threshold, and payments arrive about 60 days after the end of the month the sale occurred.1Amazon KDP. Payment Thresholds
  • Amazon Associates. Affiliate commissions pay out about 60 days after the end of the earning month, with a minimum of $10 for direct deposit or $100 for check.2Amazon.com Associates Central. What Happens to My Commission Income if They Do Not Meet the Minimum Payment Threshold?
  • Merch on Demand. Creators of print-on-demand apparel and products are paid monthly, roughly 30 days after the end of the calendar month in which items shipped. The U.S. electronic transfer threshold is $0.3Amazon Merch on Demand. FAQs

The delay is what throws people off. A KDP sale on March 15 doesn’t hit your bank until late May.4Amazon.com Associates Central. When Does the Month End? An Associates commission from March pays around the end of May. When a deposit appears and you can’t tie it to anything recent, look back roughly two months.

How to Verify the Deposit Inside Your Amazon Account

The fastest confirmation is matching the deposit amount and date against your Amazon payment records. Each program keeps its own history.

In Seller Central, open Reports and then Payments. The settlement report lists each disbursement period with a closing date and total payout. The Statement View breaks down gross sales, fees, and net transfer. For line-item detail, download the Transaction View. The net disbursement should match your bank credit to the penny.

In KDP, go to your Reports dashboard and open Prior Months’ Royalties. Each marketplace lists royalties earned, any tax withholding, and the net payment. Match the net figure to the deposit and confirm the timing lines up with the roughly 60-day cycle.1Amazon KDP. Payment Thresholds

For Associates, log into Associates Central and check Payment History for the earning month, payment date, and amount. Merch on Demand has a similar earnings dashboard under your account settings. In every case, confirm the bank account on file at Amazon is the one where the money actually arrived.

What to Do If You Still Don’t Recognize It

Before calling your bank’s fraud line, work through the ordinary explanations. A dormant Amazon account can pay out months after you stopped thinking about it. A family member may have listed your bank account as their deposit destination. And the two-month lag on KDP and Associates payments means the deposit may relate to activity you’ve already forgotten.

If none of that fits, contact Amazon. Seller accounts should use Seller Central’s Contact Us option, and KDP users can open a case from the help menu inside the KDP dashboard. Provide the exact date and amount so Amazon can trace the routing. Payments sometimes land in the wrong place after a bank change or when the name on the Amazon account doesn’t exactly match the bank record.

If the deposit is genuinely unexplained after that, report it to your bank as a possible error. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, your bank must investigate and determine whether an error occurred within 10 business days of your notice, and it can extend the investigation up to 45 days if it provisionally credits your account in the meantime.5Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors File your notice within 60 days of the statement date to preserve your full protections.6Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.6 – Liability of Consumer for Unauthorized Transfers

One caution: an unexpected deposit is not a windfall. If Amazon sent it in error, the funds can be pulled back. Leave the money alone until you’ve confirmed it belongs to you.

Tax Treatment of the Payout

Every MerchPayout deposit is taxable income, whether or not you receive a tax form. Amazon reports seller proceeds on Form 1099-K and KDP royalties on Form 1099-MISC in Box 2. The “royalties” label on KDP payments is misleading for most authors: if you actively market your books, run ads, or manage listings, the IRS generally treats that as self-employment income on Schedule C rather than passive royalty income on Schedule E.

The 1099-K filing threshold has been shifting. For the 2024 tax year the IRS set an interim threshold of $5,000 with no minimum transaction count, on the way toward a lower statutory figure whose implementation date is still unsettled.7Taxpayer Advocate Service. Form 1099-K – Part Two Whether or not a form arrives, the income is reportable, so track each payout through the year.

Self-employment earnings from Amazon are subject to regular income tax plus the 15.3% self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare. The deposit arrives without any withholding, which surprises new sellers. Setting aside 25 to 30 percent of each payout for taxes and paying quarterly estimates is a reasonable starting point and helps you avoid an underpayment penalty at filing.
