Is There USPS Mail Delivery on Saturday? Hours, Pickups, and Exceptions

USPS delivers mail on Saturday as part of its regular six-day schedule. No extra fee, no special request, no different treatment from any other weekday. Letter carriers run their normal routes to homes and businesses, blue collection boxes get serviced, and most post office counters open for at least part of the day.

What Saturday Delivery Covers

That includes First-Class Mail letters and postcards, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage packages, and marketing mail such as catalogs and flyers.1USPS. When Saturday Mail Arrives

USPS doesn’t publish a fixed start time for carrier routes. Each local office sorts and dispatches on its own rhythm, and mail volume changes day to day. Your carrier might come by at 10 AM one Saturday and 3 PM the next.

What USPS does commit to is finishing all deliveries by 5:00 PM local time, Monday through Saturday.4USPS. Delayed Mail and Packages Heavy volume, staffing gaps, or weather can push things later.

Sending Mail and Scheduling Pickups on Saturday

Saturday works for outgoing mail too. Carriers collect from residential mailboxes on their normal routes, and blue collection boxes get serviced. Saturday pickup times on blue boxes often differ from weekday times, so check the label posted on the box before dropping in anything time-sensitive.

Post Office and PO Box Access

Most post office retail counters open on Saturday, but with shorter hours than weekdays. The window varies widely. Some larger offices stay open several hours; smaller branches may only open briefly in the morning. Look up your specific branch on the USPS location finder before making the trip.

PO Box holders usually have it easier. Most locations offer 24/7 lobby access to the boxes themselves, so you can pick up mail on Saturday at any hour whether or not the counter is staffed.6USPS. PO Boxes If a package won’t fit, you’ll find a parcel locker key inside or a slip pointing you to the retail counter during its open hours.

Saturdays Without Delivery

Federal holidays are the main disruption. USPS closes entirely on 11 federal holidays each year, suspending regular mail delivery and retail service. Only Priority Mail Express keeps moving.7United States Postal Service. U.S. Postal Service to Observe Columbus Day, Oct. 13

Severe weather, natural disasters, and local emergencies can also halt Saturday service. USPS doesn’t announce these in advance since they’re inherently unpredictable.

Sundays and the Package-Only Exception

Regular letter mail doesn’t move on Sundays. No First-Class letters, no marketing mail, no magazines. Packages are a different story. Priority Mail Express runs seven days a year, 365 days a year, with Sunday and holiday delivery offered in major markets for an added fee.2USPS. Priority Mail Express Shipping USPS also delivers Amazon packages on Sundays in select cities. Whether your address gets any Sunday package service depends on local capacity.

Saturday Postmarks and Deadlines

Saturday postmarks count.
