Mail is delivered on Flag Day. June 14 is not a federal holiday, so USPS carriers run their routes, post offices keep regular hours, and FedEx and UPS operate on their normal schedules. The one catch for 2026: Flag Day falls on a Sunday, so regular mail won’t move that day for reasons that have nothing to do with the holiday itself.
Why Flag Day Doesn’t Close the Post Office

So in any year where Flag Day falls on a weekday, letter carriers complete their routes, post offices stay open, and packages move through the system without interruption.
The 2026 Sunday Problem
June 14, 2026 lands on a Sunday, and USPS does not deliver regular first-class mail or standard packages on Sundays. The exceptions are Priority Mail Express and, in many areas, Amazon packages handled through a USPS partnership. A letter or ordinary package due around that date will arrive Monday, June 15, at the earliest.
Post office branches follow the same weekend pattern. Most locations are closed on Sundays, though some larger offices keep limited Saturday or Sunday hours. Self-service kiosks and P.O. box lobbies with 24-hour access remain available even when the retail counter is closed.
None of this is caused by Flag Day. In years when June 14 falls on a weekday, mail arrives on schedule and post offices run their full weekday hours.
FedEx and UPS on Flag Day
Neither FedEx nor UPS treats Flag Day as a holiday. Both carriers run normal schedules on June 14 whenever it falls on a standard delivery day.
The Sunday timing in 2026 limits the private carriers too, and each handles weekends differently:
- UPS Ground does not deliver on Sundays. UPS Express Critical, the carrier’s most urgent service, operates every day including Sundays. Some UPS SurePost packages may also arrive on Sundays because USPS handles the final leg.
- FedEx Home Delivery offers Sunday delivery to residential addresses in major metro areas at no extra charge. Other FedEx services, including Priority Overnight and Express Saver, do not run on Sundays.
For anything time-sensitive around Flag Day 2026, check whether the service level you’re paying for includes Sunday delivery. Most standard shipments will land on Monday.
The Real June Mail Closure: Juneteenth
