If your USCIS receipt notice begins with IOE, your case was filed or intake-processed through the agency’s electronic system rather than a specific paper-based service center. IOE is widely understood to stand for Immigration Online Environment, and it appears on receipts for applications submitted through myUSCIS, as well as on some paper filings that were scanned and digitized at a lockbox. A physical service center still handles the actual review of your case; the prefix just tells you how the case entered the system.
How IOE Compares to Other Receipt Prefixes

Who Actually Reviews an IOE Case
Even though the prefix doesn’t name a service center, a real office adjudicates the case. Your Form I-797C receipt notice or your myUSCIS account will typically indicate which center is handling the review.

Checking Case Status With an IOE Number
You track an IOE case the same way as any other. Enter the full 13-character receipt number into the Case Status Online tool on the USCIS website. For more detail, link the case to a myUSCIS account at myaccount.uscis.gov. You’ll need the receipt number and the Online Access Code printed on your USCIS Account Access Notice. Once linked, the account shows up to the last five case actions, gives you digital copies of USCIS notices, and lets you turn on email or text alerts so you’re not logging in to check.
Looking Up Processing Times
The processing times tool historically asked you to pick a specific service center, which created confusion for IOE filers because IOE doesn’t correspond to one. USCIS has been shifting to a label called Service Center Operations (SCOPS) that replaces individual center names for processing time estimates, reflecting that cases move between centers based on staffing and workload.4U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Select your form type and category, then choose the office listed on your receipt notice. If the notice names a specific service center, use that. If it says Service Center Operations, or you can’t tell, select SCOPS. You may still get correspondence referencing a specific center even when the processing times page uses the broader SCOPS label.
IOE Doesn’t Cover Every Form
Only forms available for online filing through myUSCIS produce an IOE receipt number. Updating Your Address While the Case Is Pending
If you move before your IOE case is decided, update your address through your myUSCIS account. The Enterprise Change of Address tool is inside your account under Account Options.
