Icon Lifestyle Shop Charge: What It Is and How to Get Refunded

An “Icon Lifestyle Shop” charge on your credit or debit card statement is almost always a recurring subscription fee, most often $24.99 a month, that appears after what looked like a one-time purchase from an online ad. It belongs to a cluster of similarly named storefronts, and the fastest way to stop it is to call your card issuer, dispute the charge as unauthorized, and ask for a replacement card number so the merchant cannot bill you again.

What the Charge Is

Icon Lifestyle Shop is one of several nearly interchangeable “lifestyle shop” billing descriptors that show up on card statements after a consumer buys a low-cost item from an online ad. Related names reported in consumer complaints include General Lifestyle Shop, Modern Lifestyle Shop, Trust Lifestyle Shop, and Check Lifestyle Shop. The pattern is the same across all of them: a discounted gadget or household product (smart glasses, a portable heater, an energy-saving device) is advertised as a single purchase, and within weeks a recurring monthly charge begins under a name the buyer does not recognize.

Better Business Bureau records tie at least two of these storefronts to a single company. Upside Marketing LLC, based in Los Angeles, operates under the alternate names Check Lifestyle Shop and Trust Lifestyle Shop, through the sites trustlifestyleshop.com and checklifestyleshop.com. The BBB gives Upside Marketing an F rating based on 11 complaints and its failure to respond to two of them. Cardholders in those complaints report statement entries such as “Trusted Life Style Shop” and “Lifestyle UM,” with recurring $24.99 charges as well as one-time charges as high as $160.92.1Better Business Bureau. A BBB scam report for General Lifestyle Shop, which the reporting consumer said also went by “Excel Marketing,” documented a recurring $9.99 monthly charge after an initial purchase, with the operator located in Los Angeles.2Better Business Bureau. What Other Cardholders Report

Complaints on PissedConsumer follow the same shape. One consumer reported an initial $84 charge followed by continuing $24.99 monthly billing from entities identified on their statement as “scalelifestl” and “lifestylevm.” Another said items ordered for under $25 produced total charges over $145.4PissedConsumer. Refund requests are where cardholders most often get stuck. Consumers describe being told to wait 24 to 72 hours for a refund that never posts, and one reported waiting more than 18 days. Others say calls and emails go unanswered, which is why most people end up going through their bank instead.4PissedConsumer. Lifestyle Store Reviews

How To Stop the Charges and Get Your Money Back

Because the merchant is often unresponsive, work through your card issuer first. The steps below are the ones that actually resolve these disputes.

  • Call the number on the back of your card and dispute the charge as unauthorized. While the investigation is open, your issuer must remove the disputed amount from your statement and cannot report it as delinquent.5California Office of the Attorney General. How To Dispute a Charge on Your Credit Card
  • Ask for a new card number. This stops the merchant from billing the old number again. Several cardholders in BBB reports said their bank offered a replacement card as soon as the charges were flagged.
  • If your issuer wants the dispute in writing, send it within 60 days of the statement date showing the charge. Use the billing-inquiry address, not the payment address, and send it certified. Your issuer then has 30 days to acknowledge the letter and 90 days to complete the investigation.5California Office of the Attorney General. How To Dispute a Charge on Your Credit Card
  • Keep copies of the statements showing the charges, any emails or call logs with the merchant, and any cancellation attempts. Your issuer may ask for them.

If you want to try the merchant first, phone numbers listed on BBB profiles include (833) 793-0715 and (833) 817-6564 for Trust and Check Lifestyle Shop, and (833) 260-5832 for Modern Lifestyle Shop.1Better Business Bureau. Where To Report It

Filing a report will not, by itself, refund your money, but it adds to the record regulators use for enforcement. You can file with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov,6Federal Trade Commission. How To Stop Subscriptions You Never Ordered with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau online, and with the attorney general’s office in your state or in California, where Upside Marketing LLC is based. The BBB Scam Tracker at bbb.org is another useful channel, and the existing reports there are how many cardholders first identify the charge.

Why This Keeps Happening

The FTC calls this a “negative option” model: a seller treats the customer’s silence as agreement to keep charging. A federal rule addressing the practice, the Rule Concerning Recurring Subscriptions and Other Negative Option Programs, was finalized in 2024 to require clear disclosure of subscription terms, affirmative consent to recurring charges, and a cancellation process at least as simple as sign-up.7Federal Register. Negative Option Rule, 16 CFR Part 425 The Eighth Circuit vacated that rule in 2025 on procedural grounds. About 30 states enforce their own automatic-renewal laws, and the FTC still brings individual cases under Section 5 of the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act. Until enforcement reaches the lifestyle shop network specifically, watching your card statement and moving quickly through your bank is the protection that works.
