How to Set Up Venmo Direct Deposit and Get Paid Early

To set up Venmo Direct Deposit, verify your identity in the app, open the Direct Deposit menu to get your Venmo routing and account numbers, then give those numbers to your employer or payroll provider as a checking account. The first deposit can take up to two pay cycles to land, and once it’s flowing, eligible paychecks can arrive up to two days before payday.

Verify Your Identity First

Venmo won’t generate direct deposit credentials until you’ve passed identity verification. Federal anti-money-laundering rules under the USA PATRIOT Act require financial platforms to confirm who you are before opening account-like features.1Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. USA PATRIOT Act The app asks for your full legal name, date of birth, home address, and Social Security number, then checks that against national databases. Most people clear in seconds.

If the automated check fails, Venmo asks you to upload documents. For name and date of birth, it accepts a U.S. passport, driver’s license, government-issued ID, ITIN assignment letter, DHS card, or tribal ID. For address, it accepts a utility bill, bank statement, W-2, lease agreement, car registration, or IRS letter dated within the past 12 months. For your Social Security number, it accepts your SSN card, an IRS letter, or an ITIN assignment letter.2Venmo. Find Your Routing and Account Numbers

Once you’re verified, Venmo assigns you a unique account number and a nine-digit routing number. These are specific to your Venmo profile and are separate from any external bank account or debit card you’ve linked.

  • Open the Venmo app and tap the “Me” tab (your picture or initials at the bottom of the screen).
  • Tap the settings gear in the top right corner.
  • Tap “Direct Deposit.”
  • Tap “Show Account Number” to reveal both numbers.3Venmo. Direct Deposit FAQ

There’s a copy button next to each number, so you can paste them straight into a payroll portal. Check every digit before you submit anything. Venmo is clear that it won’t cover a missed deposit caused by incorrect account information you gave to your employer.3Venmo. Direct Deposit FAQ

Give the Numbers to Your Employer

Log into your employer’s payroll portal, or ask HR for a Direct Deposit Authorization Form. Put the routing number in the “Routing Number” field, the account number in the “Account Number” field, and select “Checking” as the account type. Major payroll platforms like ADP and Workday let you do this through self-service, so you may not need HR at all.

Some forms also ask for a bank name and address. Don’t enter “Venmo.” Enter the details for Venmo’s partner bank:

  • Bank name: The Bancorp Bank N.A.
  • Address: 345 N Reid Place, Suite 700, Sioux Falls, SD 571063Venmo. Direct Deposit FAQ

This is the step that trips people up. If a payroll system rejects “Venmo” as a bank name, using The Bancorp Bank N.A. usually resolves it.

Splitting Your Paycheck

You don’t have to send your whole paycheck to Venmo. Many employers let you split direct deposit between accounts — for example, a fixed amount to Venmo for spending and the rest to a traditional bank.4Venmo. It’s a low-risk way to try Venmo as a deposit account.

When Your First Deposit Arrives

After you submit your numbers, the first deposit can take up to two full pay cycles to arrive.4Venmo. Venmo Direct Deposit Setup That lag is your employer’s payroll system registering the new account, not a problem with Venmo. Keep your old direct deposit active until you confirm the first Venmo deposit has landed.

Once it’s flowing, deposits from certain employers and payroll providers arrive one to two days before your scheduled payday. Early availability depends on when your employer submits the payroll file. Some employers send the file days in advance, which lets Venmo release funds early. Others submit on payday itself, so there’s no early access. If a deposit doesn’t show up when you expect it, Venmo recommends confirming with your employer that the payment was sent before contacting Venmo support.3Venmo. Direct Deposit FAQ
