If you need to get your W-2 from AT&T as a former employee, you have two reliable routes: sign in to the HR Access portal at hraccess.att.com, or call the AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 and request a paper copy by mail. Federal law requires AT&T to furnish your W-2 by January 31 following the tax year, and for the 2026 tax year the IRS sets that employer deadline at February 1, 2027.1Internal Revenue Service. General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2026) Which route works for you depends mostly on whether you set up online access before you left.
Signing In to HR Access
AT&T hosts W-2s for current and former employees on its HR Access portal. Go to hraccess.att.com, find the “Retiree, Former Employee, or Dependent” section, and click “Login.” Use the Former Employee Global Logon credentials you created around the time of your separation. Once in, open Tax Services and select the W-2 link for the year you want. You can view it on screen or download a printable PDF.
Here is the catch that trips people up. AT&T requires you to create your Former Employee Global Logon before you leave, with a window that starts when your termination date is entered in the system and runs about 14 days from that effective date. Miss that window and the portal is effectively closed to you. If that is your situation, skip ahead to the phone options.
If you did register but cannot remember your login, try the “Forgot Password” or “Forgot User Name” links and answer the security questions you set up at registration. If those fail, call 855-823-3723, the Equifax Tax Form Management line AT&T uses for W-2 distribution issues. They can reset access or arrange a paper copy.
Getting a Paper Copy by Phone
If you never set up online access, calling is the most dependable path. Two numbers handle W-2 requests for former AT&T employees:
- AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020. This is the general line for benefits, address changes, and W-2 requests. Representatives are available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.
- HR OneStop at 888-722-1787. This line handles W-2 requests more directly and is often faster if that is your only question.
Have your Social Security number and former employee ID ready when you call. If you have moved since leaving, update your mailing address on the same call. AT&T mails W-2s to the last address on file, and an outdated address is the single most common reason the form never shows up. Paper copies typically take about ten business days to arrive once requested.
You are entitled to the form whether or not you still work there. Federal law requires employers to deliver the W-2 on or before January 31 of the year following the tax year, and for former employees that means mailing it to the last known address.2Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 U.S. Code 6051 – Receipts for Employees AT&T cannot require you to pick it up in person.
If Your W-2 Never Arrives
If mid-February passes and nothing has come, do not just wait. The IRS lays out a specific escalation path.
Call AT&T again at either number above and document the call: the date, who you spoke with, and what they told you. If the end of February arrives and you still have no form, call the IRS at 800-829-1040. Have your name, address, phone number, Social Security number, dates of employment at AT&T, and AT&T’s name and address ready. The IRS will contact AT&T on your behalf and request that they send the missing form.3Internal Revenue Service. If You Don’t Get a W-2 or Your W-2 Is Wrong
If the form still does not arrive in time to file, you have a fallback. IRS Form 4852 is the official substitute for a missing W-2. Use your final pay stubs to estimate your total wages and the taxes withheld, then attach Form 4852 to your return. The form asks you to explain how you arrived at the numbers, so keep those pay stubs with your records.4Internal Revenue Service. Form 4852, Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement The IRS often takes longer to process a return filed with Form 4852 while it verifies your numbers, which can delay any refund.5Internal Revenue Service. W-2 – Additional, Incorrect, Lost, Non-Receipt, Omitted
If you need more time altogether, Form 4868 gives you an automatic filing extension until October 15. The extension covers filing only, not payment. If you expect to owe, estimate the amount and pay it by the April due date to avoid interest and penalties.6Internal Revenue Service. Get an Extension to File Your Tax Return
If Something on the W-2 Is Wrong
If you spot an error, whether wrong wages, incorrect withholding, a misspelled name, or state tax attributed to the wrong state, call the AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 or HR OneStop at 888-722-1787. Point to the specific box number and have supporting documents ready, such as final pay stubs or a separation agreement showing severance terms.
AT&T issues corrections on Form W-2c (Corrected Wage and Tax Statement) and must also file the W-2c with the Social Security Administration.7Internal Revenue Service. About Form W-2 C, Corrected Wage and Tax Statements The SSA tells employers to issue the W-2c “as soon as possible” after discovering an error, with no fixed statutory deadline.8Social Security Administration. Helpful Hints to Forms W-2c/W-3c Filing Large employers typically take a few weeks. If more than 30 days pass with no response, escalate by calling the IRS at 800-829-1040.
If you have not filed yet, wait for the W-2c. If you already filed using the wrong W-2, file Form 1040-X to amend your return once the corrected form arrives. The W-2c also covers state information in Boxes 15 through 17, so a state misallocation after a relocation can be corrected the same way, though you may need to amend your state return as well.
Getting a W-2 from a Prior Year
The AT&T HR Access portal stores several years of historical W-2s. Log in, open Tax Services, and pick the year. If the year you need is not listed, or if you cannot reach the portal at all, call the Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 and ask them to run a manual search.
Three other routes do not involve AT&T at all.
IRS Wage and Income Transcript
The fastest option is the IRS Individual Online Account at irs.gov. Register or log in, then request a Wage and Income Transcript, which shows the data from all W-2s and 1099s reported under your Social Security number. The transcript is free and covers the current year and nine prior years. Current-year data usually populates in the first week of February.9Internal Revenue Service. Transcript Types for Individuals and Ways to Order Them
A transcript is not a photocopy of your W-2. It contains the same dollar amounts in a different format. Most lenders, agencies, and tax preparers accept it, but if someone specifically requires a copy of the original form, you will need another route.
Form 4506-T by Mail
If the online tool is not an option, file Form 4506-T to request the same Wage and Income Transcript by mail. Transcripts are free. Processing takes several weeks, so plan ahead.10Internal Revenue Service. Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return
Social Security Administration Records
The SSA holds W-2 data going back to 1978. Mail a written request to the SSA’s Office of Earnings and International Operations in Baltimore, MD, with your Social Security number, the exact name on your Social Security card, the year or years you need, and the reason for the request. For non-Social Security purposes such as tax filing, the SSA charges $62 per request, payable by check or money order to the Social Security Administration.11Social Security Administration.
