How to Get Your BIR TIN Number Online via ORUS

You can get a BIR TIN online through ORUS, the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s Online Registration and Update System, by creating an account at the BIR eServices page, submitting the registration form that matches your taxpayer type, and uploading a scanned government ID. Approval typically arrives by email in about three days.1Bureau of Internal Revenue. Check First Whether You Already Have a TIN

Philippine law prohibits holding more than one TIN. This trips up more people than you’d expect, usually when someone was registered years ago through an employer, forgot, and applies again for a property sale or a bank requirement. Using double or multiple TINs can result in a fine of up to 1,000 pesos, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.2Supreme Court E-Library. Revenue Regulation No. 13-93

Before starting an ORUS application, verify through the BIR contact center or your local Revenue District Office that you don’t already have one on record. A second TIN creates mismatched records that can complicate your tax filings for years.

Pick the Right Form Before You Start

ORUS uses digital versions of three standard BIR registration forms, and picking the wrong one is a common reason applications stall.

The simplest test: employees use 1902, self-employed earners and professionals use 1901, and everyone else, including first-time job seekers and people selling inherited property, typically falls under 1904.

One note if you’re a new employee: in practice many employers file 1902 on your behalf, so ask before you start your own application.

What to Prepare

Gather these before you open ORUS so you can finish in one sitting.

  • A valid government-issued photo ID such as a passport or driver’s license, scanned so every personal detail is legible.
  • A working email address that isn’t already linked to a BIR tax profile. ORUS sends a verification link there during account setup.
  • Your full legal name, date of birth, and permanent residential address, all matching your ID exactly.

Uploads must be JPEG, PNG, or PDF, with a maximum file size of 25 megabytes per document.6Bureau of Internal Revenue. Registering on ORUS

Go to the BIR eServices page at bir.gov.ph and open the ORUS portal.

Create your account by entering your email and setting a password. ORUS sends a verification link to that email. Click it to activate the account. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, check your spam folder before requesting a new link.

Once logged in, choose the new taxpayer registration option on the dashboard and select the form type that matches your situation. The interface walks you through each field and prompts you to upload your scanned ID and any supporting documents.

Before submitting, review every entry. Name misspellings and wrong birth dates create mismatches that can delay processing or force an in-person visit to correct later. When everything is right, submit the application. The system generates a confirmation reference number. Save or screenshot it right away. You’ll need it to track your application status.

Timeline and How You Receive Your TIN

The BIR’s published processing time for E.O. 98 and one-time transaction applications through ORUS is three days under normal conditions.1Bureau of Internal Revenue. The BIR notes that unforeseen technical delays are not factored into the estimate.

Once approved, you’ll get an email notification at the address you registered with. Both the physical TIN Card and the Digital TIN ID are valid as proof of TIN ownership.7Bureau of Internal Revenue. What Happens After Approval

For E.O. 98 registrants who needed the TIN for a single transaction like a property sale or opening a bank account, there are generally no ongoing obligations beyond that transaction. If your circumstances change and you start earning taxable income, you’ll need to update your registration at the appropriate Revenue District Office.

Self-employed applicants have more to do. After approval, you’ll pay the Loose Documentary Stamp Tax online before you can view your TIN and download your Certificate of Registration and, where applicable, your Authority to Print from your ORUS profile page.8Bureau of Internal Revenue. When ORUS Goes Down or Rejects Your Application

ORUS doesn’t have perfect uptime. The BIR issues advisories when the system is offline for maintenance or facing technical issues. If the portal is unavailable, you can file manually at your Revenue District Office. Bring two original copies of the applicable form (1901, 1902, or 1904), your valid ID, and any supporting documents.

If the data you entered doesn’t match what the system pulls from other government databases, ORUS may reject the application or flag it for manual review. Fixing this usually means an in-person visit to the RDO where your records are held. Bring your reference number and your original IDs.
