If you agreed to paperless delivery, the form is available digitally as soon as the platform that pays you through Stripe files it. If you did not opt into paperless delivery, that platform may also mail a paper copy to the address on file.
Verify Your Account Before You Try to Download
Your account information has to be verified before you can open the form. Your Taxpayer Identification Number (usually a Social Security Number or Employer Identification Number) and legal name have to match what the IRS has on file.
Stripe typically sends a verification link to the email address associated with your account. Following that link lets you confirm or update your TIN, legal name, and mailing address through the Stripe Express portal. In some cases, Stripe may ask you to upload a photo of a government-issued ID.
Getting this right upfront matters. A name-TIN mismatch can prompt the IRS to issue a CP2100 notice to your payment processor,2Internal Revenue Service. When Your 1099 Should Appear
Stripe and other payment processors have to deliver your 1099-K by January 31 following the end of the tax year.4Internal Revenue Service. Publication 1099 General Instructions for Certain Information Returns (2026) If January 31 falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day.
If nothing has appeared in your Stripe Express dashboard by early February, first confirm your email address and account details are current. Then contact the platform that processes your payments through Stripe. The platform, not Stripe itself, is usually the entity responsible for filing the form, so it is the right first stop when something is missing.
Should You Expect a 1099-K in the First Place?
Federal law requires third-party payment processors like Stripe to file Form 1099-K only for account holders whose gross payments exceed $20,000 and whose total transactions exceed 200 during the calendar year.5Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6050W – Returns Relating to Payments Made in Settlement of Payment Card and Third Party Network Transactions Both conditions have to be met.
That threshold was reinstated by the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, which retroactively reversed a 2021 law that would have lowered the trigger to $600 with no transaction minimum.6Internal Revenue Service. Some states require 1099-K reporting at lower dollar amounts, so if you operate in one of those states you may still receive a form from Stripe based on state rules.8Stripe Documentation. 1099-K Form State Requirements You are required to report all income on your tax return whether or not a 1099-K is issued.
One thing to expect when the form does arrive: the dollar figure in Box 1a is the gross amount of all reportable transactions, before any deductions for processing fees, refunds, credits, shipping costs, or discounts.9Internal Revenue Service. Closed Accounts and Prior Years
If your Stripe account has been deactivated, disconnected, or deleted, you cannot log into Stripe Express to download the form electronically.11Stripe Documentation. Support Recommendations and FAQ Templates Contact the platform that processed your payments and it can provide a copy directly.
The same approach works if you need a form from a previous tax year that no longer appears in your dashboard. The platform can pull the older document for you.
Fixing an Incorrect 1099
If your 1099 shows the wrong name, an incorrect TIN, or an inaccurate dollar amount, start with the platform that pays you through Stripe. The platform is typically the filer and controls the data on the form, so it is the party that has to issue a correction and refile with the IRS.12Stripe. My 1099 Tax Form Is Incorrect. How Do I Make Changes?
You can update your own name, address, and TIN directly in Stripe Express, but those changes will not automatically appear on a form that has already been filed. Stripe shares your updated information with the platform, which can then use it to file a corrected 1099.12Stripe. My 1099 Tax Form Is Incorrect. How Do I Make Changes?
