How to Get and Submit the GECU Direct Deposit Form

GECU Federal Credit Union doesn’t publish a blank direct deposit form to download. Instead, you generate a pre-filled direct deposit letter through GECU’s online banking and give that letter to your employer’s payroll department. The letter includes GECU’s routing number (312081089) and your account number, which is everything payroll needs to route your paycheck through the ACH network.1GECU. Direct Deposit

If You Can’t Use Online Banking

Walk into any GECU branch in the El Paso or southern New Mexico area and ask a representative to produce the letter for you. GECU’s toll-free line (1-800-772-4328) can direct you to the nearest branch.

Many employers don’t require a credit union letter at all. They have their own direct deposit authorization form, and you just supply GECU’s routing number (312081089), your account number, and your account type. If payroll asks for a voided check as verification, write VOID in large letters across the front of a GECU check without covering the numbers along the bottom edge; the check carries the same routing and account data.3Nacha. Direct Deposit Without a Voided Check? Absolutely! If you don’t have paper checks, the letter from online banking or a branch works just as well — most employers accept either.

What’s on the Letter and Why It Matters

Routing Number

Every GECU member shares the same nine-digit routing number: 312081089. This identifies GECU as the receiving institution when your employer’s bank sends the ACH transfer. It’s printed on the bottom-left corner of any GECU check and on GECU’s homepage.2GECU Federal Credit Union. GECU Federal Credit Union Don’t confuse this with the General Electric Credit Union, which also goes by GECU but uses routing number 242076821.4General Electric Credit Union. Branch Services A wrong routing number sends your paycheck to a different institution entirely.

Account Number

Your account number tells GECU which of its members’ accounts should receive the money. The letter fills this in when you pick your account during generation. You can also read it off the bottom of a GECU check (to the right of the routing number) or your monthly statement.

Account Type

ACH transactions are coded differently for checking and savings, so your employer’s payroll system needs that detail. The letter captures it when you make the selection. If you later want to switch account types, generate a new letter and resubmit.

Submitting It to Payroll

Deliver the letter (printed or as a PDF) to whoever runs payroll. At larger employers that’s human resources; at smaller ones it may be the owner or an office manager. If your workplace uses a self-service payroll portal, you can usually enter the routing number, account number, and account type yourself, or upload the PDF, without handing over a physical copy.

Before submitting, check that the name on your GECU letter matches the name on file with your employer. A mismatch can cause the ACH network to reject the deposit and bounce your paycheck back to the sender. This trips up employees who recently changed their name and updated one system but not the other.

How Long Until the First Deposit Lands

Plan on one to two full pay cycles before your first electronic deposit arrives. In that window, your employer’s bank typically sends a prenote — a zero-dollar test transaction — through the ACH network to confirm the routing and account numbers are valid.5Indeed. Prenotes: What Employers Need to Know Until that test clears, you’ll keep receiving paper checks. Some employers skip the prenote and move faster, but expect at least one more paper paycheck after you turn in the letter.

On your expected first electronic payday, check your GECU account through the mobile app or online banking. If nothing has posted by midday, call payroll. The problem is almost always on the employer’s end: a data-entry typo, a prenote still in progress, or a submission that missed the payroll cutoff.

Splitting Pay Between Accounts

If you want part of your pay in GECU checking and part in GECU savings, or part at another bank, you’ll set that up with your employer rather than through GECU. Most payroll systems allow a split by fixed dollar amount or by percentage. A fixed split sends the same figure to each account every pay period; a percentage split flexes with your pay. Employers often cap the number of accounts you can split across, so ask payroll before generating multiple letters.

A common setup is to send a fixed amount (say $200) to GECU savings each paycheck and route the rest to checking. Generate a separate letter for each destination account and note the amount or percentage for each when you hand them in.

Federal Benefits and Tax Refunds Use Different Forms

Direct Deposit For Your VA Payments For an IRS tax refund, you enter routing number 312081089 and your GECU account number directly on your tax return or in your tax software rather than submitting any letter.

Protecting the Information on the Letter

The letter carries your full account and routing numbers, which is enough for someone to initiate an ACH debit from your account. Handle it like a blank check. If payroll wants the PDF emailed, use a secure company portal or encrypted email rather than a plain attachment. If you’re handing over paper, give it directly to the payroll contact instead of leaving it in a shared inbox or on a desk.
