To get and print your I-94, go to i94.cbp.dhs.gov, choose the option to retrieve your most recent arrival record, enter your passport information exactly as it appears in your passport, and then print or save the record the site returns. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issues the I-94 electronically for arrivals by air, sea, or land, so there is no paper card to hand you at the booth — the online copy is the record.1U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Retrieving the Record on the CBP Website
Open i94.cbp.dhs.gov and accept the site’s terms of use. Select “Get Most Recent I-94” and fill in the four required fields, matching your passport character for character:1U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record
- Full name, including any suffixes or multiple surnames, spelled the way it is printed on the biographical page.
- Passport number, usually in the upper-right area of most passports.
- Country of issuance, which is the country that issued the passport and is not necessarily your nationality.
- Date of birth in month-day-year format.
A missing hyphen, an abbreviated middle name, or one wrong digit will return “record not found.” Before you assume the system is broken, open your passport and check every character against what you typed. When the search works, the site displays a digital I-94 you can print or save as a PDF. That printout is your lawful proof of admission and the document you produce whenever anyone asks for evidence of your status.
The CBP Link mobile app, free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, does the same thing on a phone and lets you view your current I-94 after admission.2U.S. Customs and Border Protection. CBP Link Mobile Application Save the PDF somewhere you can reach it without Wi-Fi. Employers, DMVs, and immigration attorneys all ask for it, and you will not always be near a printer when they do.
Getting an I-94 at a Land Border
If you are entering by land, you can apply for a provisional I-94 up to seven days before you reach the crossing.3USAGov. Form I-94 Arrival-Departure Record for U.S. Visitors Use the I-94 website or the CBP Link app; either one walks you through the questions and lets you pay in advance so the inspection at the port goes faster.
As of September 30, 2025, the land-border I-94 fee is $30 per application, whether you apply online, in the app, or at the port in person. The old fee was $6; an additional $24 fee required by law brought it to $30.4U.S. Customs and Border Protection. I-94 – Payment Process Travelers arriving by air or sea pay no separate I-94 fee, since processing is built into the airline or cruise ticket.
What Your Printed I-94 Shows
Every field on the printout has a job. Check each one against your passport and visa before you file it away.
- Admission (Record) Number, sometimes called the departure number. You will enter this on nearly every USCIS form you file.5U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record, Information for Completing USCIS Forms
- Class of Admission, meaning the visa category you were admitted under, such as B-2 for tourism, H-1B for specialty workers, F-1 for students, or RE for refugees. This code sets what you can legally do while you’re here.
- Admit Until Date, the last day you are authorized to remain. Overstaying can trigger bars on future re-entry and removal proceedings.
- Date of Entry, the day you physically entered.
An employer verifying work eligibility looks at the class of admission. An attorney preparing an extension needs the admission number and admit-until date. If any field is wrong, fix it before it blocks a job offer or benefit application.
If Your I-94 Shows “D/S” Instead of a Date
Students on F-1 visas and exchange visitors on J-1 visas usually see “D/S” — duration of status — where a calendar date would normally sit. You are authorized to stay as long as you maintain your program enrollment and make normal academic progress. Your designated school official or program sponsor tracks your status; USCIS does not set a hard deadline on the card. When you complete the program (plus any authorized grace period), drop below full-time enrollment, or otherwise fall out of status, your authorized stay ends. D/S does not mean indefinite.
Pulling Your Travel History
The same website offers a travel history feature that lists your U.S. arrivals and departures for the past 10 years, though certain types of travel may not appear.1U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The site does not go back further than 10 years and holds no records for travel before 1982.6U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Request Records Through the Freedom of Information Act For older trips, such as the full absence history a naturalization applicant needs, file a Freedom of Information Act request with CBP. You can submit through the SecureRelease portal at securerelease.us or mail your request to 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Mail Stop 1181, Washington, DC 20229. Include your full name, address, date of birth, and either a signed Certification of Identity form or a statement under penalty of perjury with your signature. If someone else is requesting records on your behalf, they need a signed Form G-28 or other written consent. FOIA processing times vary widely, so file well before any deadline.
Fixing an Error on Your I-94
If the printed record shows a misspelled name, wrong date of birth, incorrect visa classification, or inaccurate admission date, how you fix it depends on who made the mistake.
When CBP Entered the Wrong Information
Do not file Form I-102 for a CBP data-entry error. Sites located inside international airports generally accept walk-ins. Offices in other locations often require an appointment, and some cannot accommodate walk-in I-94 correction requests at all. Call ahead. Mail-in correction requests are generally not available.
When You Need a Replacement
File Form I-102 with USCIS if your I-94 was lost, stolen, or damaged, or if you were not issued one at admission. The standard filing fee is $560.9U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. G-1055 Fee Schedule If CBP issued you an electronic I-94 at an airport or seaport after April 30, 2013, and you are filing to correct information through no fault of your own but cannot get the correction from the CBP website, the fee drops to $0.
You file Form I-102 by mail to a USCIS lockbox.7U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. I-102, Application for Replacement/Initial Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Document USCIS no longer accepts personal checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks for paper filings unless you qualify for an exemption. Pay by credit, debit, or prepaid card using Form G-1450, or directly from a U.S. bank account using Form G-1650. A missing or wrong I-94 can hold up a Social Security number, a driver’s license, or any immigration benefit, so handle it early.
A Note on Extending Your Stay
Retrieving and printing your I-94 does not extend it. If you need to stay past the admit-until date, that is a separate USCIS filing (Form I-539 for most nonimmigrants, or an employer-filed Form I-129 for categories like H-1B), and USCIS asks you to apply at least 45 days before your authorized stay expires.10U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Extend Your Stay Print the current I-94 first — you will need the admission number and admit-until date on the extension application.
