How to Get and Fill Out the Vancity Direct Deposit Form

You can get a Vancity direct deposit form as a pre-filled PDF through online banking or the mobile app in under a minute, or pick one up at any branch. The downloaded file includes a void cheque image showing your transit number, Vancity’s institution number (809), and your account number, which is everything an employer or government agency needs to send payments straight to your account.

How to Download the Form

Log in at vancity.com/onlinebanking and open the account where you want deposits to land. Click “More,” then choose “Download direct deposit form” in the popup. The PDF downloads immediately with a void cheque pre-printed on it.1Vancity. How Do I Find My Branch/Transit Number, Financial Institution Number and Account Number?

In the mobile app, the path is nearly identical. Log in, tap the account you want paid into, scroll down, tap “More,” and select “Download direct deposit form.” A success message confirms when the file has saved.1Vancity. The Three Numbers That Route Your Deposit

Every direct deposit form relies on three numbers. If any one of them is wrong, the payment fails.

Some employers ask instead for a nine-digit routing number. That’s just the institution and transit numbers combined as 0809XXXXX, where XXXXX is your five-digit transit. The downloaded PDF displays it on the void cheque portion.

Filling Out the Form

If you’re using Vancity’s pre-filled PDF, the routing numbers are already printed on the void cheque image and you usually don’t need to write them in again. But many employers and government agencies use their own enrollment forms, and those want you to enter everything by hand.

Whether the form is Vancity’s or your payer’s, you’ll need:

  • Your full legal name, exactly as it appears on your Vancity statements
  • Your current address, also matching your account records
  • Institution number: 809
  • Your five-digit transit number
  • The account number for the account receiving deposits
  • The branch address tied to your account2Vancity. Direct Deposits, Cheques, and More

The name and address you write must match what Vancity has on file. If you’ve moved or changed your name recently, update your Vancity records first. A mismatch between the form and Vancity’s system can cause the payer to reject the setup.

Using a Void Cheque Instead

Some employers skip the form entirely and just want a void cheque. The pre-filled PDF already includes a void cheque image, so in most cases you can submit that single document and be done.2Vancity. Direct Deposits, Cheques, and More

If your employer specifically wants a paper void cheque and you have a chequebook, write “VOID” in large letters across the front of one cheque. That stops anyone from cashing it while leaving the routing information readable. Hand it to payroll with any additional paperwork they require.

Submitting the Form

Once the form is complete, give it to your employer’s payroll or HR department. Most workplaces accept the PDF by email or through an internal HR portal, though some still want a printed copy. For government benefits like Canada Revenue Agency payments or provincial income assistance, look for a secure upload option on the agency’s website. Most Canadian government portals accept banking documents electronically.

When Deposits Will Start

Expect the first direct deposit one to two pay cycles after your employer processes the paperwork. The delay is on the payer’s side. They enter your details into their payroll system, and some run a test transaction before sending real money. Older payroll software or monthly change cycles can stretch the wait a little longer.

Watch your Vancity account through online banking or the app during the transition. If the first expected deposit doesn’t land, contact payroll before assuming Vancity is the problem. The usual cause is a data entry error at the employer, most often a mistyped transit or account number, and they can spot it by comparing what they entered against the form you gave them.

After the first deposit lands, future payments arrive automatically each pay date with no further action from you. If you later switch branches or open a new account and want deposits redirected, download a fresh form and submit it again. Old routing details do not update on their own.
