How to Get and Fill Out the Synovus Direct Deposit Form

To set up direct deposit at Synovus, fill out a direct deposit authorization form with the Synovus routing number (061100606), your account number, your account type, and your employer or agency’s details, then sign it and hand it to your payroll or benefits office. You can also fax the completed Synovus direct deposit form to (800) 650-9612 or drop it off at any Synovus branch.1Synovus. What to Gather First

Pull these together before you start writing on the form:

  • The Synovus routing number: 061100606. It identifies the bank inside the ACH network that moves the payment.2Synovus. Updated Wire Instructions
  • Your account number, found on the bottom of a Synovus check to the right of the routing number, or inside your My Synovus online banking portal.
  • The account type (checking, savings, or money market). ACH transactions use different codes for checking versus savings, and the wrong choice can bounce the deposit back.3Nacha. ACH Guide for Developers
  • The legal name and address of the employer or agency sending the money. For federal benefits, that means the specific department or agency.

No checks on hand? Log into My Synovus to pull both numbers, or call your branch and verify your identity by phone.4Nacha. Direct Deposit Without a Voided Check? Absolutely!

Where to Get the Form

Most employers and government agencies have their own direct deposit authorization form, and that version is usually the one you fill out. The bank information you enter is identical no matter whose form it is. Synovus also offers its own form through its business disbursement services, available at any branch.1Synovus. How to Fill It Out

Layouts vary, but every direct deposit form asks for roughly the same information.

Your Information and Your Employer’s

Use your full legal name, matching the name on your Synovus account rather than a nickname. Most forms also ask for your Social Security number or employee ID so payroll can match the authorization to your file. Enter the employer or agency’s official name and address exactly. Payroll processors sometimes reject forms where the employer name doesn’t match their records.

Banking Details

Put 061100606 in the field labeled “routing number” or “ABA/RTN.”2Synovus. Updated Wire Instructions Then enter your account number, taking care not to pull in the check number that sometimes sits on the same line at the bottom of a check. Mark the correct account type. A mismatch between the account type on the form and the actual account is one of the most common reasons a direct deposit comes back as a return.3Nacha. ACH Guide for Developers

Allocation

Some forms let you split your pay across accounts, either by a flat dollar amount or a percentage. If you want everything going to one account, write “100%” or check the box for the full amount. If you’re splitting, make sure the pieces add up; payroll systems reject forms where the math is off.

Signature

Sign and date at the bottom. Your signature authorizes the employer or agency to deposit funds electronically and gives them limited permission to reverse a deposit if they send the wrong amount, duplicate a payment, or credit the wrong account.6Nacha. Reversals That permission is narrow, not open-ended.

Where to Send It

Give the completed form to your employer’s payroll or human resources department. For Social Security, veterans’ payments, or other federal benefits, submit it to the issuing agency’s benefits office. Federal government ACH payments are governed by 31 CFR Part 210.7eCFR. 31 CFR Part 210 – Federal Government Participation in the Automated Clearing House

Many payroll departments want a voided check attached as a secondary check on your routing and account numbers. If you don’t have Synovus checks, ask your branch for an account verification letter, or ask payroll whether a screenshot from My Synovus will do. Some employers skip paper entirely and have you type the banking details into a secure payroll portal.4Nacha. Direct Deposit Without a Voided Check? Absolutely!

If you’re using the Synovus form rather than an employer version, you can fax it to (800) 650-9612 or return it to any Synovus branch.1Synovus. Business Disbursement Services

How Long Until Deposits Start

Expect one to two pay cycles. Payroll has to enter your details, and many employers run a small test transaction (a prenote) through the ACH network to confirm the numbers work before sending a real paycheck. You may still get a paper check during that window.

Check your Synovus account on payday to confirm the deposit landed. If two full pay cycles go by and you’re still receiving paper, call payroll. The usual culprits are a transposed digit in the account number or a missing signature. Keep a cushion in your account during the switch so autopays don’t bounce while you wait.

Changing or Canceling It Later

Switching jobs, opening a new account, or moving your deposits to a different bank all require a fresh authorization form submitted to the employer or agency with the new details. Synovus doesn’t have a central switch for this; the instruction lives wherever the money comes from, so the change happens on their end.

To cancel direct deposit and return to paper checks, notify payroll in writing. Some employers have a cancellation form; others accept a signed letter. Give at least one pay cycle of lead time. If you’re closing your Synovus account, redirect or cancel the direct deposit first. Deposits sent to a closed account bounce back to the sender, which can push your pay back a week or more.

When an Employer Can Reverse a Deposit

Signing the form lets your employer or agency reverse a direct deposit, but only in narrow situations: a duplicate payment, a deposit sent to the wrong account, an incorrect dollar amount, or a payment processed on the wrong date.6Nacha. Reversals They cannot reverse a deposit because they changed their mind or ran short. The payer also has to tell you a reversal is coming.8TexPayment Resource. Direct Deposit Payments Made in Error – Reversal Requests

If an unexpected withdrawal shows up, check with payroll first; it usually traces back to an overpayment or a duplicate, with a corrected amount landing within a few business days. If payroll can’t explain it, call Synovus. The bank can trace the ACH entry and help you dispute a reversal that shouldn’t have happened.
