How to Get a 1099 From TikTok: Download, Request, or Fix Errors

To get a 1099 from TikTok, complete your tax profile inside the app, then download the form from the Tax Documents area of your wallet once TikTok posts it after January 31. TikTok is required to issue the form when your earnings cross the reporting threshold, but it will not generate anything until your W-9 information is on file and validated.

Which 1099 You’ll Receive

Two different forms are possible, and they cover different kinds of TikTok income.

Form 1099-NEC covers non-employee compensation, meaning money TikTok pays you directly through Creator Rewards, LIVE gifts, and similar programs. Federal rules require TikTok to file this form when your gross payments reach $600 or more in a calendar year.1eCFR. 26 CFR 1.6041-1 – Return of Information as to Payments of $600 or More The $600 is gross, before any of your own expenses, and a single payment crossing the line is enough.

Form 1099-K applies to payments that flow through a third-party settlement organization, which is how TikTok Shop sales are processed. Under current federal law, a 1099-K is only required when gross payment volume exceeds $20,000 and you had more than 200 transactions during the year. The American Rescue Plan of 2021 had temporarily lowered that threshold to $600, but the change was repealed in 2025 and the $20,000/200-transaction rule is back in place.2Internal Revenue Service. IRS Issues FAQs on Form 1099-K Threshold Under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Some states set lower thresholds of their own, so a 1099-K can still arrive from TikTok even when you’re well under the federal cutoff.

Set Up Your Tax Profile First

TikTok will not produce a 1099 until you finish a tax profile inside the app. For creators, open your wallet, tap Tax information, and select the form that applies to you.3TikTok Support. Tax Information for Creators TikTok Shop sellers take a different route: go to Seller Center and open Account Settings to enter tax information there.4TikTok Shop Seller Center. Set Up Tax Information

What you’re filling out is a digital W-9. It asks for your legal name exactly as it appears on your government ID, and your Taxpayer Identification Number. For most individual creators that TIN is your Social Security Number. If you operate through an LLC, corporation, or other business entity, you’ll enter an Employer Identification Number instead.3TikTok Support. Tax Information for Creators Non-U.S. citizens complete a W-8BEN rather than a W-9.

Getting your name or TIN wrong is not a small problem. When the information you provide doesn’t match IRS records, TikTok is required to start backup withholding, taking 24% out of every future payment and remitting it to the IRS.5Internal Revenue Service. Backup Withholding You would recover that money as a credit when you eventually file, but the withheld cash is gone until then. TikTok itself faces penalties of $250 per incorrect statement filed with the IRS, which is why the platform pushes hard to get mismatches fixed.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6722 – Failure to Furnish Correct Payee Statements Check the entries twice before you submit.

TikTok has to furnish your 1099-NEC by January 31 of the year after the tax year.7Internal Revenue Service. Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC (04/2025) Once that date passes and your earnings data is processed, the digital PDF becomes available in the same part of the app where you set up your tax profile.

For creators, open your wallet or monetization area, find the Tax Documents section, choose the calendar year, and download the 1099-NEC or 1099-K if one was generated. TikTok Shop sellers pull their 1099-K from Seller Center under Finances > Tax, where a detailed reconciliation report is also available.8TikTok Shop Seller Center. 1099-K and Tax Form FAQs Expect to confirm your identity or enter a passcode before the download unlocks. Save the PDF to your device and back it up somewhere else too, because you’ll want it for your return and potentially for years after if the IRS ever asks questions.

Request a Paper Copy

If you’d rather have a paper form in hand, change your delivery preference in your tax profile settings to opt out of electronic-only delivery. TikTok will mail the form to the address on file, so update that address before the tax year ends. The form must be postmarked by January 31, and most creators receive it within a week or two after that.7Internal Revenue Service. Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC (04/2025)

The digital and paper copies are identical for filing purposes. Even if you’ve requested paper, pulling the digital version as soon as it appears lets you start your return without waiting on the mail.

If the 1099 Is Wrong or Never Arrives

When the dollar amount, name, or TIN on the form is incorrect, contact TikTok to request a corrected 1099. The IRS advises reaching out to the issuer right away when a 1099-K has errors, and keeping copies of all your correspondence.9Internal Revenue Service. Actions to Take if a Form 1099-K Is Received in Error or With Incorrect Information If a corrected 1099-K doesn’t come through, you can report the erroneous figure on Schedule 1 with an offsetting entry so it nets to zero on your return.

If the form simply never shows up, don’t skip filing on that basis. The IRS says to contact the payer first, and to call 800-829-1040 if you still don’t have the form by late February.10Internal Revenue Service. What to Do When a W-2 or Form 1099 Is Missing or Incorrect File on time using your own records to estimate the income. Your TikTok monetization dashboard tracks earnings throughout the year, so it makes sense to check it periodically and keep a running total in case the formal document is delayed. If the 1099 shows up later with different numbers, file an amended return on Form 1040-X.

No 1099 Doesn’t Mean No Tax

Whether or not TikTok sends you a 1099, the income is taxable. The $600 and $20,000 thresholds govern when TikTok has to file the form, not when you owe tax. If your net self-employment earnings reach $400, you’re required to file a return and pay self-employment tax.11Internal Revenue Service. Self-Employment Tax (Social Security and Medicare Taxes) The IRS also receives its own copy of every 1099 TikTok issues, and income on that form that doesn’t appear on your return triggers a notice, followed by an accuracy-related penalty of 20% of the underpaid tax, plus interest.12Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6662 – Imposition of Accuracy-Related Penalty on Underpayments Getting the form is a step in filing correctly, not the trigger for whether you have to file at all.
