The Travis Credit Union direct deposit form authorizes your employer to send your pay electronically into your TCU checking or savings account. It’s one page. You’ll need the credit union’s routing number (321170839), your personal account number, and basic contact details for yourself and your employer. Sign it, hand it to payroll, and deposits usually begin within one to two pay cycles.1Travis Credit Union. Contact Us
Which Version of the Form to Use
Travis Credit Union publishes two PDFs. The longer Direct Deposit Transfer Request Form includes a section for your current bank’s information, which matters if you’re redirecting a deposit that currently goes somewhere else.2Travis Credit Union. Direct Deposit Transfer Request Form The shorter Direct Deposit Change/Request form covers the basics when you’re starting from scratch or updating existing deposits.3Travis Credit Union. Direct Deposit Change/Request Either one works. Pick whichever your payroll department prefers, and use the longer version if you’re switching from another institution. Printed copies are also available at any TCU branch.
Filling Out the Form
The form is short, but one wrong digit on the routing or account number will bounce the deposit. Check each entry before signing.
- Employer or depositor information. Your employer’s name, address, and phone number. If payroll runs through a third-party provider, ask HR whether to list the employer or the provider.
- Current account information. Only if you’re moving a deposit from another bank. Enter that institution’s name, routing number, and account number. Leave blank for a first-time setup.
- TCU routing transit number. Pre-printed as 321170839.1Travis Credit Union. Contact Us
- TCU account number. Your personal account number, not the number on your debit card.
- Account type. Check the box for checking or savings, whichever account should receive the deposit.2Travis Credit Union. Direct Deposit Transfer Request Form
- Your name, address, and phone. Print your name, then a current mailing address and a phone number where payroll can reach you.
- Signature and date. Your signature authorizes the deposit.
The TCU form does not ask for your Social Security number. Some employers use their own authorization form instead, and those forms sometimes request additional details such as SSN or a split between accounts. If you’re handed an employer form, you still need the TCU routing number and your account number to complete it.
Finding Your Account Number
The routing number is the same for every Travis Credit Union member: 321170839, used for both ACH deposits and wire transfers.1Travis Credit Union. Contact Us It’s already printed on the form, but confirm it matches your checks or your online banking before you turn anything in.
Your account number is unique to you. Three ways to find it:
- On a personal check. The first nine digits at the bottom left are the routing number. The next set of digits, before the check number, is your account number.
- In the mobile app. Open the Accounts tab, pick the account, tap Details, then tap the eye icon next to Account Number to reveal the full number. The routing number appears on the same screen.4Travis Credit Union. How To Access My Account and Routing Number (Mobile App)
- In online banking. Log in on the TCU website and open the account details for the relevant checking or savings account.
No checks and no digital access? Call the credit union or visit a branch. A representative can look up your number and, if your employer requires it, print a verification letter.
Submitting the Form to Payroll
Give the signed form to your employer’s payroll or HR department. Some employers accept it through a secure HR portal or encrypted email; others want a paper copy. Ask first. Sending account numbers over unencrypted email is a bad idea, and many payroll departments won’t accept it that way.
Most payroll processors need the form two to four banking days before a pay date to set up a new direct deposit, with a banking holiday adding another day. Miss the cutoff and your change rolls to the next pay period.
Expect the first full electronic deposit to take one to two pay cycles. Many employers send a small test transaction (a prenote) through the ACH network to verify the account first. The prenote itself clears in about three banking days, but employers often wait a full pay cycle after it clears before switching your real pay over. During the transition you’ll likely still get a paper check or a deposit at your old bank. Once your first TCU deposit lands, the setup is done.
Getting Paid Up to Two Days Early
Travis Credit Union releases direct-deposited paychecks up to two days before payday on eligible checking accounts: Access Checking, Free Checking, and Investor Checking.5Travis Credit Union. Checking Accounts There’s no separate signup. Once your recurring direct deposit is active on one of those accounts, TCU posts the funds as soon as the deposit file arrives from your employer.
Early access isn’t guaranteed every cycle. It depends on when your employer’s payroll provider transmits the file. If the file arrives two days before payday, you get paid two days early. If it arrives on payday, there’s nothing to accelerate.6Travis Credit Union. Travis Credit Union Provides Early Paydays and Cuts Fees for Members
Social Security and Federal Benefits Use a Different Process
The TCU form is for employer payroll. Federal benefit payments (Social Security, VA disability, federal retirement) enroll through a different channel. Since October 2025, nearly all federal benefits must be delivered electronically, either by direct deposit to a bank account or onto a Direct Express prepaid card.7Go Direct. What a Wrong Digit Costs You
A mistyped number doesn’t just delay pay. It can route your money to someone else’s account or bounce it back to your employer. The two common ACH return codes for bad account information are R03 (the account can’t be found or doesn’t match the name on file) and R04 (the account number has the wrong length or is otherwise invalid). Either way, the deposit kicks back to your employer and you wait for them to reissue payment.
Your employer has five banking days after the original settlement date to reverse an erroneous deposit under ACH network rules.11Nacha. ACH Network Rules – Reversals and Enforcement If the money reached the wrong account because of a transposed digit, reversal can take longer while the receiving bank sorts it out. Before you turn the form in, read the account and routing numbers back against your mobile app or a check. One wrong digit is all it takes.
